Announcing the Second Annual Plowshares Songwriting Competition!!!

Plowshares Coffeehouse in Phoenixville, PA will be hosting a "Songwriting Competition." Ten entrants will be selected to perform at the Finals Showcase where one Grand Prize winner will be selected by our judges including Philadelphians Gene Shay (radio DJ at WXPN), Robert Corwin (natioinally renowned music photographer), and Jennie Avila (songwriter).

The Grand Prize is a $500 paid showcase feature at the next Finals Showcase. The Finals Showcase will feature sets by last year's Grand Prize winner, Dan Pelletier, and our guest Chris Rosser. Chris is an award-winning songwriter and an accomplished guitarist and producer from Asheville, NC.

Judging will focus primarily on 'songwriting' with some consideration for 'performance' and no consideration for 'production.' In addition to the ten 'showcase' finalists who will be eligible for the Grand Prize, ten more songwriters will gain 'finalist' recognition.

Submit by the following guidelines:

Plowshares Songwriting Competition

Email HudsonHardingMusic@yahoo.com with inquiries.

Ten Finalists will be selected by an anonymous pre-judging panel consisting of no less than eight Philadelphia local songwriters. Pre-judged songs will be anonymous (judges will not know name of songwriter).

The ten finalists will perform at Plowshares Coffee House on March 29, 2003 for a panel of judges and a single Grand Prize 'winner' will be selected.

Submit materials:
1) One-page with only the following: artist name, email address, phone number and mailing address
2) Include one CD or cassette with two songs (CD's prefered). Full length CD's accepted with clear indication of songs submitted for consideration. Judges will not see the name of the songwriters.
3) One copy of lyrics for both songs (single, two-sided copy preferred). Please no names on lyric sheets. Otherwise, the names will have to be marked out.
4) $12 check made out to "Lucy Bonnington."

Send to: Hudson Harding Music, c/o Erik Balkey, PO Box 22417, Philadelphia, PA 19110.

Anyone is welcome to submit with one exception: the previous grand prize winner is ineligible. The other finalists from last year are eligible but, in the interest of competition, they cannot re-submit the same songs. This 'competition' is in good fun with the aim to support and showcase great songwriting.

Time for a biblican quotation:
"Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears"

A biblican? Would that be a bibulous publican, Nigel?
