Subject: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: Fiolar Date: 20 Jan 03 - 08:19 AM The death has occurred of one of my favourite actors, Richard Crenna aged 76. He made his film debut in "Red Skies of Montana" (1952) and in the same year played in "Dizzy Dean" in "Pride of St Louis." Probably best remembered now as Colonel Trautman in the Rambo movies he starred in such films as "The Sand Pebbles" (1966); "Catlow" (1971) and "Breakheart Pass" (1976) among many others. One of his later roles was as Ronald Reagan in the 2001 TV movie "The Day Reagan Was Shot." Sadly missed. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Jan 03 - 09:31 AM Always enjoyed him including his last part as Tyne daly's lover on "Judging Amy." But I also remember that nasal, high pitched, whiny kid from "Our Miss Brooks." Thanks for all those memorable characters. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: GUEST Date: 20 Jan 03 - 10:23 AM And now here's Luke, who beams with joy since he made Kate Mrs. Luke McCoy. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: katlaughing Date: 20 Jan 03 - 10:47 AM Glad you mentioned his role on "Judging Amy," Spaw. I've really enjoyed watching the "mature" actor. Guess they'll be busy with rewrites, now. It so sad when one like him passes on. RIP, Mr. Crenna, you were a fine actor, thanks for sharing. kat |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: DougR Date: 20 Jan 03 - 01:39 PM I thought he was a very good actor. Sorry he is gone. DougR |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: fat B****rd Date: 20 Jan 03 - 03:16 PM Indeed, RIP Mr. Crenna. The TV movie in which he played a policeman who was raped was harrowing and moving. I believe he won an award for this performance. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: DougR Date: 20 Jan 03 - 04:37 PM Broad: I don't beieve I saw that one. Do you know the title? DougR |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: Rick Fielding Date: 20 Jan 03 - 04:43 PM Too bad. Heather was eargerly waiting for the "Tyne/Richard" spin-off. I think it would have been HUGE! Believe he played "Daffy" Dean in the movie...Dizzy's brother. Rick |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: John MacKenzie Date: 20 Jan 03 - 04:52 PM "The day Reagan was shot." followed by, "Sadly missed" An interesting juxtaposition there. Very Freudian. God rest his soul anyway. Giok |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: GUEST,Taliesn Date: 20 Jan 03 - 09:04 PM Glad someone saw fit to grant honorable mention to his work in the pivotal steve MacQueen film " The Sand Pebbles" with rather young Candace Bergen as the missionary's daughter. But there were some rather intense roles as one of the contract thugs to Alan Arkin in the chilling "Wait Until Dark" and as the doomed husband in Kathleen Turner's debut in "Body Heat". He's made his presence known as a serious actor post-Luke MacCoy always referrin' to his wife as "Sugarbabe". |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: Fiolar Date: 21 Jan 03 - 08:56 AM DougR: The movie was "The Rape of Richard Beck" (1985) AKA "Broken Badge" AKA "Violated." |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: voyager Date: 21 Jan 03 - 01:26 PM SLATTERY'S PEOPLE was a short-lived TV series starring Richard Crenna in 1964-65. I saw the PILOT for the series not long ago and was impressed by such novelties as SCRIPT, CHARACTER, and DRAMA. Each episode opens with the following announcement:- "Democracy is a very bad form of Government, but I ask you to never to forget it, all the others are far worse". which was lifted from WINSTON CHURCHILL. voyager |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: GUEST,Bill Kennedy Date: 21 Jan 03 - 02:51 PM unforgettable as the teen-ager with the crush on Lucy in I Love Lucy |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: Banjer Date: 22 Jan 03 - 06:30 AM Im surprised no one has mentioned his stint as the Rifleman, a story of a widower with a young son, played by Johnny Crawford, set in frontier times. That is where I first met and got to like him. I was at an age then when a lot of the lessons he taught Mark affected me as well. Great man, RIP |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: JJ Date: 22 Jan 03 - 08:22 AM No one has mentioned his stint as the Rifleman because that wasn't him. It was Chuck Connors. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: catspaw49 Date: 22 Jan 03 - 09:19 AM JJ, let me apologize and try to explain about my friend General Banjer. Ya'see, he was dropped repeatedly on his bottom as an infant and it was several years before doctors confirmed his brains were housed in his ass. On the plus side, this has enabled him to win several degrees and honors including the coveted Incredible Dumbass medal, replete with three Blighted Elm Leaf Clusters. This of course then qualified him for the very exclusive rank of General F****P which as you can see is a 4-Star rank. So please forgive him as these type of mistakes are quite common to him. He once identified the famous Marilyn Monroe upskirt shot from "Seven Year Itch" as being an aardvark applying for a job as a hat blocker. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: Banjer Date: 22 Jan 03 - 06:18 PM Sniff-sniff1! here I was just thinkimg that no one remembered my many accomplishments. Yes folks, it's true, I worked long and hard to gain those accolades, all of them well earned! Fact here is that I got up this morning and my braincells went to breakfast without me, both of them! I don't know what 'Spaw is referring to with the statement please forgive him as these type of mistakes are quite common to him, they are NOT at all common, why I haven't pulled a bonehead move since about 2:45 this afternoon, and here it is nearly 6:00PM |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: GUEST,Old fart Date: 22 Jan 03 - 07:31 PM On the other hand, I saw Chuck Conners in his Montreal Royals baseball uniform when he came back to Delormier Downs for a promotion. He was an actor by then....but not yet The Rifleman. Rick (from Heather's stuff, cuz I can't get in from mine) |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: JennyO Date: 23 Jan 03 - 03:50 AM I got up this morning and my braincells haven't got up YET! Must be a blues song in there somewhere......... |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: DonMeixner Date: 23 Jan 03 - 08:44 AM Do I also recall a brief TV series with Bernadette Peters? He was a conservative writer, commentator, proffessor, government official, and she was his ultra liberal sweetie? Don |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: catspaw49 Date: 23 Jan 03 - 08:50 AM Yeah Don......I think it was called "All's Fair." Spaw |
Subject: RE: Obit: Richard Crenna - RIP From: Banjer Date: 23 Jan 03 - 06:54 PM Thank you 'Spaw for listing all my accomplishments above, it needs to be done once in a while because as anyone who knows me will tell you I am too modest to mention them, not to mention too forgetful to even remember them!!! |
