I don't think anyone knows who wrote the song

You ask for verses starting "agus rinne mise cleas", but those words are in Irish Gaelic and you also say that you want English language.

We quite often have people come here who have heard the Bothy Band recording, and want that particular set. There are seven earlier discussions, which you can find by typing casadh into the "Filter" box on the main Forum page, setting the "Age" box to all, and clicking the "Refresh" button. Normally I would advise you to use the onsite search engine, but it's not working properly just at present.

If you follow the advice above you'll find a link to http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Parthenon/8998/ceol.html where you will find a translation of most of the verses of the version Micheál Ó Dómhnaill sings. In one of the other threads you'll find a rough and ready translation by me of MÓD's first verse.

In the second line of the last verse ('S do Dhéanfainn obair shocair ... on the site linked to above) MÓD sings
"Is sheolfainn na nGamna ar an dtalamh is seibhre a bhfaighidís féir" which translates roughly as "I'd direct the calves to the richest land where they'd find grass".

If I get the time I'll try to post the version as Mícheál sings it to the main thread on this.

Another note, chances are that it's not another version, but a sub-set of a longer song. It happens all the time in the Gaelic songs, since many of them are long (15+) verses.

It might help if you specified who sang the particular version of the song you heard.

I'd be very surprised if a version thats starts "Agus rinne mise Cleas" is not the one sung by MÓD, but I'm often very surprised.
