Subject: RE: BS: Happy Valentines From: katlaughing Date: 13 Feb 03 - 04:07 PM I don't have a favourite, don't remember any specific ones, but I do have a favourite memory, if that's okay? Rog and I had lived together for about a year when Valentine's Day came around. We were out at dinner, but I was upset because he hadn't done anything special. It was a small, intimate restaurant. The lighting was bright, yet cozy. It was a funky place with old signage on the wooden walls and the floors were old wide-pine boards. Imagine my surprise when he got up, said he'd be right back, and left! I had no idea what he was doing and was slightly embarrassed. After several minutes spent stewing and fuming wondering where he'd got to, I looked up to see him coming through the door. He came right over to our table, went down on one bended knee, and while he handed me a small, children's valentine, said some words to me in French. He'd gone to the minimart across the street and bought a whole box of kids' valentines (the only kind they had) just to get one for me. Inside, he'd written "I love you." To this day, I don't know what he said, but I don't care. He got many years' mileage out of that one, incredibly romantic evening!**bg** After 24 years I guess it's a good thing he did. Happy Valentine's Day to you all, luvyakat |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Valentines From: Rustic Rebel Date: 13 Feb 03 - 05:47 PM I started a company a few years ago called 'Perverted INK', worked out of a bar and sold cards for a quarter on V. day using bar napkins. It was anything goes. Men to women- Roses are red, violets are blue Come on baby, I got a big stiffy for you. Flowers are pretty, flowers are sweet, Rub my belly, you get a pound of meat. Women to men- Roses are red, violets are blue, tonight you can lick me through and through. Looking at you makes me break into a sweat Thinking of you, really makes me wet. Ok I think you get the picture, need I go on? (this is a tamed example!) Peace. Rustic |

Uhh don't answer that...Happy Valentine's Day to everybody anyway. Maybe Love isn't All we need but it sure helps. Kat, a lovely story & memory. Nutty - I say your "Roses are Red" one IS about Valentine's, 'cause Feb. 14 is MY birthday (YEAHyeah, ain't it sweet, grumblegrumble) & I'm fed up with you young punks, wuttsa mattah wit' Kids tooo-day. Subject: RE: BS: Happy Valentines From: Walking Eagle Date: 13 Feb 03 - 11:22 PM A Valentine Day memory. I really used to like it when we put the kids kind of valentines in envelopes that we had taped up in our school room. First the girls put theirs in while the boys 'hid'. Then the boys put theirs in while we hid. We always peeked because some of the boys (and girls) put more than one Valentine in a special one's envelope. The boys peeked as well as we girls did the same thing. It was all pretty embarrasingly innocent. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Valentines From: Dave Bryant Date: 14 Feb 03 - 05:15 AM I once sent a Valentines card that said on the front: I got an Ugly Old Witch to put a spell on this Valentines card so that it can only be opened by a beautiful and chaste young girl. Inside it said: Or another Ugly Old Witch. The lady I sent it to could't claim to be overly chaste - so it's probably a good job that I didn't sign it - Whoops, I've just remembered, she's on Mudcat these days - hope she doesn't read this thread. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Valentines From: Kim C Date: 14 Feb 03 - 10:40 AM Well.... I been married 12 years, and Mister still leaves me surprise Valentines. And I left him one today, too. He gave me a pop-up card with a little angel in it. When he gets home, he will find his prezzies artfully arranged on the kitchen table. Romance in and of itself, can be a sham. It's like a bad cold - it hangs around for awhile, then you get over it. But love, well, that's something altogether different. It means you still want to be together and laugh and have fun even after you've gotten over the romance part. One of my most memorable Valentines, though, wasn't from Mister. It was from my college boyfriend (who is now the sound engineer working on our new CD!), when he sent me a singing telegram, delivered to the lobby of my dorm. A friend of his actually owned a singing telegram company, and he came in with heart-laden boxer shorts, little Cupid wings, and one of those Steve Martin fake arrow-through-the-head things. I don't remember what he sang, but I got to keep the arrow. I still have it somewhere. And in case you're wondering - Mister and the College Boyfriend get along just great. We all get along just great. While I never forgot the good things I liked about him, and how much respect I have always had for his talent, I also never forgot the things that made the relationship not work. (Youth was a major factor.) After so many years, though, it's nice being friends, and working together. A couple of years ago, my brother wanted to know why my mother and I sent him Valentines. "Valentines are for sweethearts and lovers," he said. I told him to stick it in his ear, that Valentines are for everybody. What a grump. I don't send him Valentines anymore. ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Valentines From: hesperis Date: 14 Feb 03 - 12:34 PM Oh, that "commercialism" excuse... it's not what the day is, it's what you make OF it!!!!!!! My bf is planning something...
