Subject: RE: BS: What's your blessing today?
From: GUEST,I woke up with a song and a smile....
Date: 23 Apr 04 - 11:26 AM

Today, I woke up early. I got up, said a prayer and began to sing. I really don't have a lot to sing about if circumstances are to be the perimeter here. Last March, I was laid off from a large insurance company and to date, I'm still looking for work. However, I'm not pessimistic and I actually look forward to each day. Not only that, I expect blessings each and every day.

I'm not sure why I'm so happy...but I know that God never fails and perhaps the joy I feel is his way of telling me that he has my back.

Love,

Sonya

Mine today is bitter sweet. Some musician friends of mine have sold their house and are moving 'south' to Sequim, Washington. Their age, life styles and tolerances over the years have changed- they have gotten thoroughly sick of the 70 outdoor steps to their house on the mountainside- his elderly mother needs more constant attention and she can't do the stairs- their daughter lives and works in Seattle and my friends were tired of having to take a plane every time they wanted to visit her- they want more sunshine than there is in Juneau- they plan to do a lot more traveling in their RV and hitting all of the bluegrass festivals... All of that, and I understand that.

But it's difficult to let them go. I played in a dance band with them for six solid years and ever since then I've been playing here with them every week for a total of 13 or 14 years. He plays mandolin, she plays standup bass and they're great folks.

Last night we had a Mexican food potluck for them- just 8 of us- and then played hard. Things got misty a time or two.

I will miss them, but I am so thankful for friends.

Picture this; I'm driving in a really tough neighborhood and this scene occurs in front of me. I'm stopped at a stop sign, and a white dude driving a huge truck stops in front of me on my left (four way stop). A black dude walks to the corner on my left and starts running toward the white dude in his truck. My mind thinks,uh oh, bad scene here. The white dude reaches out his passenger window, the black dude reaches the truck and they greet in a very friendly manner. The white dude pulls across the street and parks and he and the black dude start their conversation.

The blessing for me was re-learning that what I think might happen, might not.

My blessing for today is learning that I will be remaining in the great Commonwealth of Virginia (at least for a while). I was a candidate for what may have been a once-in-a-lifetime position at a resort in Montana; but didn't get the job. I can barely begin to express what that opportunity meant to me. Fortunately, I didn't burn any bridges here in Virginia and will return to my current job AFTER I RETURN FROM TWO GLORIOUS WEEKS IN ENGLAND WHICH BEGIN ON THURSDAY!!! I will have the good fortune to meet and to make music with a huge throng of 'Catters at the Yorkshire gathering, will tour a small bit of Ireland as well as the dark corners of London and surrounds.

Among the other wonderful things that my staying in Virginia means is that I WILL BE AT THE GETAWAY AGAIN THIS YEAR!!!

My Blessing for yesterday was completing the procesison/parade at the Hastings Jack in the Green Festival and still been able to walk after it all allbeit a tad stiff and sore!!

My blessing for today....not having a hangover and getting to work on time.....and lasting the day when I could have done with staying in bed!!!

Hearing the birds sing.....don't hear birds singing very often in London (not like you do in Yorkshire).....we only tend to hear pigeons!

My blessing today - driving home from the Hastings Jack in the Green festival, feeling that summer has acually arrived - hedgerows dripping with may blossom, sparkling with ladysmock, almost hurting the eyes with oilseed rape and imitating the skies with bluebells; glorious lapis skies, the most amazing bright shiny copper beech in amongst the new lime green oak leaves.... a mix of colours that on a palette would be disgusting, but in nature, are the cleanest and freshest combination you could ever see....

My blessing yesterday was dropping a full bottle of wine on my foot and still being able to move my toes!

My beloved husband, who at 65 is 12 years older than I am, is in excellent health, is gainfully employed, and is happy with life. Today after supper we took a 3-mile walk together, which we do as often as we can, and we talked about our day, and looked at mountains and a little lake -- and the drought seems to be over. We are both involved in various community projects, which are satisfying and interesting. My life is extremely full these days. I get to teach Latin for money (not much but I'd do it just for fun). I currently have a side gig translating some letters from medieval Latin -- which is a stretch, and fun. A friend and I are writing a play, which we are very excited about and I think we'll even finish it! I have the tremendous honor of being the mother of Sheyna and Adam, the grandmother of Zecharya, and the sister of Amos and John and (in-law) their wives, and aunt to their kids! I also have the gift to live in a country where even though I'm kind of poor by national standards, I'm outrageously rich compared to most people on earth and most people in the history of the world, and bombs have never fallen where I live, and even the tornadoes missed us. I have a home, a full fridge, friends, a happy marriage, health -- what more could I possibly want? I'm constantly grateful, and I feel especially lucky if I get a chance to pass any of this on.

Though I am blessed every day with the love of my wife, P-Vine, my son Ben and the love of my many friends, I am always on the constant lookout for those little gifts with which the Lord surprises me. The Lord was little more subtle today than usual bu He certainly got a few good blessings in for which I am thankful:

So, this morning when I went to the coffe shop for my usual I ended up setting my coffee down and mixed it up with someone elses and didn't discover it until I got to my office a block away. Well, I went straight back to correct the mix-up and, in doing so, ran into Mike the Sculptor, who I just don't run into as much as like. Both of us being artists creates a situation fir some interesting conversations. Yeah, after deciding to have my coffee there in the shop with Mike, I walked out and said, "Thank you, Lord..."

I have learned that the more I take that moment to recognize blessing and to give thanks, the more of them occur?........

Today I played Traditional Music at an annual festival in a lovely little town in the midwest. I got to see a very dear friend who lives there, & visit with her for several hours. I also got to see some friends who are fellow musicians whom I usually only get to catch up with at festivals. We had quite pleasant weather for the occasion. Oh, yes--I got paid for it, too!!

One to mention is that Walking Eagle graces the Cat with such threads. I built and painted a new gate today, and tromped the wild hills of Camp Pendleton -- a large stretch of military land -- doing field trials on some GPS devices. It was BYOODIFUL out there! And Barky is doing a bang-up job and just fiinshed her Freshman Jury at the SFO Conservatory -- and did very well. And I work with good people who are smart, kind and funny -- not necessarily in that order... :>) And I love my BBW and I have a guitar I love, also. And people enjoy my music, which is a delight.

I feel blessed to be back home safely. Had to take all 3 corgis in for their innoculations today, and weirdness of weirdness here in central coastal Calif., it has been pouring all day, with heavy fog along the freeway as well, and the car windows steaming up with 3 panting dogs all breathing heavily. We made it there and back safely, a round trip of nearly 70 miles, nobody jumped out of the car when they shouldn't, we all behaved beautifully and are now safely back home until the storm wears itself out. No leaks in the house either...more blessings.

Congrats to Mary in Ky, and good wishes to all who havent been having the best of days.

alanabit; do try and keep that positive attitude!
I do not know the details of what you are being tested for but you should try and add healthy practices to your lifestyle immediately; if cancer does show up then eating well and taking nutritional supplements, as well as exercise and meditation, are all excellent supplementary therapies to whatever treatment you end up choosing...
There are many naturopaths who beieve cancer in its early stages can be lessened and even in some cases cured with a detoxification diet; one such doctor (Jan Dries) has had incredible success in the Netherlands. The less toxic material the body has to deal with (cigarettes, alcohol, food empty of nutrients) the more it can put its energy towards eliminating tumors etc. Dries' book is called The Cancer Diet.
I wish you well and hope any diagnosis proves to be one that is curable and has been found in its early stages. Western medicine does have some real effective methods to offer in this area, but don't leave out the holistic approach...
Good luck and good health to you.

I am losing the last bit of my teaching work, I am being sent for tests for cancer and it is the first anniversary of my father's suicide tomorrow. On the other hand, my family quietly allowed me to sleep late this morning, I got e-mails from my sister, I have been invited to make a video with students of Bonn University and the sun is shining. In two or three hours time, I will be enjoying lunch on a beautiful day with three lovely people - my girlfriend and small children. Not everyone gets it this good.

I'm having a tough day, need to find a blessing. Yesterday I found out that someone I know is undergoing Chemotherapy, today our president called a meeting to tell us that his partner is in the hospital recovering from a quadruple bypass. I have some issues at work that I am considering taking legal action over if I can't resolve them to my satisfaction. My wife called me in tears, we are having an addition put on our house and the contractors knocked over and shattered a gift that she had received from her now deceased grandmother who was the most important person in her life.

If I do have a blessing for today it's that the day is nearly over and I can go to bed thankful that I am surrounded by people who love me. Sorry for being sappy.
