Correct, Cluin, but they spelled it this way: Bunchafuckingoofs

In that fashion they were able to advertise in the Toronto Star and so on, instead of being censored for daring to use the "F" word in print. I think they may have been the most honestly named musical group in history, and the name gave them instant solidarity with their fans as well...

Thanks, LH. I remembered the name, but was ignorant of the spelling.

A good name can work wonders. Look what it did for The Barenaked Ladies.... instant notoriety when their name cause the Municipality of Toronto to cancel their gigs and the media lept on the story.

At University, I heard of some Chemistry students who formed a band called, "Hoffman Degredation".

You needed to be a Chem. Eng. graduate to get that one (although I did meet it in Chemistry A-Level). It's the process of converting an alliphatic (long carbon-chain) amide, to an amine, losing one carbon atom in the process.

Bored ? Well, after explaining all that to the audience, there would hardly be enough time to do the rest of the gig, which may explain why they never shot to fame and fortune.

How about "The The" ? This has the side-benefit of being unpronounceable in Yorkshire.

My favourite has always been "We don't want the peanut we want the whole plantation dance band".

I used to be in a band called "Who Cares?" and narrowly missed the chance to do a double bill with another local band called "So what?"

I haven't seen Dumpy about for years now. Do you think he's still going?

Mate of mine (dead now - rest his soul) had the nickname 'Stones'. His band were Snoty Stones and the Turdbenders - in 1969 and well before punk!

Favourite name at the mo is the tribute band - By Jovi. Can't think who they might be a tribute to...

Glad to see the Dead Sea Surfers got a mention - they were a great band as well as having an amusing name. I've got on tape a track by a Hull-based band called Roger's Interview (but no-one in Hull professes to have heard of them!)There's also Morris and the Minors (I met Morris, who told me he wrote The Deserter now sung by Fairport) and Slim Panatella and the Mellow Virginias (I think Slim was Simon Mayer the mandolin player).

I remember with fondness a 12 inch LP of showtunes by The Original Cast, which (as I recall) had on the record shuck a picture of a presumably broken leg in a plaster cast.

The last two are Manx bands.

I once thought of "Which Tyler and the Pedants' Revolt" but nobody in the band got it. Eventually we became "Surprise Guests."

Wasn't Ashley Hutchings' first band the Ethnic Shuffle Orchastra?

Way back when, we had a college band called Les Freres Sidebottom. I later graduated to The Kitchen Syncopators (that one has subsequently cropped up elsewhere). Other favourites from south Wales have been Cliff Rescue & the Helicopters (still going strong), and Colonel Pine & the Pine Kernels.

Keep them coming!

From college days, Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts - a truly outrageous southern bar band.

Bob Hitchcock, I once played in a group called None of the Above - we couldn't agree on a name either. And who could forget Dr. Kilmer's Jug Band, Medicine Shoiw and Storm Door Company.

We had a band in Cork called the Dancing Bastards From Hell. Another crowd driving to a gig saw a billboard which said "Fit Kilkenny Remoulds" so they called the band Fit Kilkenny & the Remoulds. I've always wanted to call a band either Johnny Foreskin & the Drawbacks or Harry Haemorrhoid & the Piledrivers.
