Mr. Red,
Hank Wangford took his psuedonym from the village he was born in, Wangford, just outside Southwold, on the north Suffolk coast........
There's not a lot of people know that...........

Remember that era when it was cool to give bands names like: the Shirelles, the Shondells, the Ronnettes, and that sort of thing? Now what would you call that style of band naming? It's amazing, people's search to be cool, isn't it?

I think Hank Wangford on his own was funny enough considering he was a Harley St gaenacologist. But he did have a band and the lead singer (real name Melanie Hrrold) called herself Irma Seetas, sweet little thing she was.

Not to forget, "Half Man Half Biscuit", "Napalm Death", and "Extreme Noise Terror".
Must get out more!

I think the most brilliant band name of all time was "The Rolling Stones". You can't come up with a better one than that.

As for "The Beatles", that was a bit silly sounding, but it didn't matter, cos the band itself was superb.

And then there's "The Band". Now THAT's a masterpiece of literal simplicity, if ever there was one.

As for funny/ridiculous/gross band names, how about: Bunchafuckingoofs, Cardboard Brains, Dead Kennedys, Nazi Dog and the Viletones, the Fugs, Limp Biscuit, the Swollen Members, the Slits, and Stark Naked and the Fleshtones.

In the 60s we had a bluegrass band in New Zealand called "Eloitious (sp?)Fingerpicks, and the Aristocratic Skillet-Lickers - with Fiddling Mother Colleen". Having spent hours practicing getting my tongue round the title, I got up on stage, and announced them - only to be told "We've just changed our name to 'Hamilton County Bluegrass Band
'!". Aaargghh...

Cheers - Sam

A few years back, there was a bluegrass outfit playing out of Milwaukee calling themselves "Grass, Food & Lodging" and using a logo patterned after the large green signs appearing alongside America's freeways.
