From: Bill D Date: 30 Sep 03 - 06:37 PM or...a 'breakout' game of skill called "Ballistic" which is similar to DXball, (bouncing balls break bricks and get powers) only simpler and quiet...but not easy! I'll upload it if anyone wants it..it is VERY hard to find these days. |
Subject: RE: BS: Your favorite game - card or otherwise? From: Bill D Date: 30 Sep 03 - 06:28 PM a computer solitare game called "Penguin"...in the Freecell family. It allows for undoing and finding that elusive solution. You 'can' win 90%+ with practice. |
Subject: RE: BS: Your favorite game - card or otherwise? From: katlaughing Date: 30 Sep 03 - 06:18 PM I grew up with Chinese checkers (why is it called that when one uses marbles?) being my fav. because that's what my grandma played with me, that and Tiddley Winks. When I was old enough I learned how to play Canasta and that has been a perennial fav. in my family for years. I also love Monopoly (me, too, Amergin!)and Clue. In the dark ages we had a TRS80 on which we all played a game called Pyramid (I think). No graphics of any sort. One had to really use their brain, following the clues, get the treasures, etc. It was a blast, the kids loved it. We also used to play Gin Rummy and while I can't remember how now, I remember we had some great times with it. Another favourite now is Balderdash when there are enough of us to play! kat |

Playing partners, four people, is full of strategy combined with some luck, of course. My favourite is Crib, hands down. |
Subject: RE: BS: Your favorite game - card or otherwise? From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 30 Sep 03 - 02:39 AM Cards: 500 (prefer it to bridge) - and Ricketty Kate.. Computer Games: I first struck the "grandfather" computer run games many years ago. the basic ones were: Empire: alphanumeric form of "conquer a map" Rogue: alphanumeric form of "kill the monsters, grab the gold and run" Mud: A D&D text format "explore the caverns" game, with more intellect required to succed than Rogue. With the exception of "sit in the cockpit and blow away the bad guys" Mechwarrior style, I tend to prefer the "Heroes of M&M" * MS "Empire" series. Most of the other games require too much fine motor control for me. |

Subject: RE: BS: Your favorite game - card or otherwise? From: open mike Date: 30 Sep 03 - 12:46 AM how about mah jongg..not the 4-handed card game type, but the solitaire tile game where you find matches.. and remove them |
Subject: BS: Your favorite game - card or otherwise? From: BO in KY Date: 30 Sep 03 - 12:38 AM I just learned to play Gin Rummy in the last year. I like it because you can get a few hands in while the tea is brewing and it moves right along. Frustrating, though, because I keep thinking there must be a strategy to this that I'm missing somehow - or on the other hand maybe its just the luck of the draw. Have the same nagging feeling with the few hands of dominoes I've played. Used to play 500 and Euchre in college, but have never tried Bridge or Pinochle - seem daunting somehow. Give me an abstract strategy game (other than chess)though, and I can get into it. Am fair to middlin at Reversi and Go on the internet - keeps me off the street. What about the rest of y'all? Anybody up for a game night? Bo |
