Subject: BS: RIP Art Carney From: Mickey191 Date: 11 Nov 03 - 06:43 PM The Great Art Carney passed away Sunday, 10/9. He was 85 years old and the winner of three Emmys & one Oscar. Without Carney, Gleason's star would not have shone half so bright. Jackie said that himself. He was a sweet, humble gentleman, from my home town, Mount Vernon, N.Y. |

It is very true, Seinfeld's Kramer played by the wonderful Michael Richards simply could not have existed without Carney's influence...He was always my favorite character on The Honeymooners... |

Subject: RE: BS: RIP Art Carney From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 12 Nov 03 - 06:17 PM Art Carney, comic singer! One of the best children's lps ever was "Doodle-Li-Boops and Rhinocephalopes," Columbia CL 2595. Not sure when this old 10-incher came out. Lost in the sands of time; it doesn't show up in Google. Songs, by several lyricists, included: The Dodo Bird in the Banyan Tree Them Flop, Mop, Cotton and Pete Where Did the Chicken Lay the Eggie? Mama, Mama, Mama Santa and the Doodle-Li-Boop |

Subject: RE: BS: RIP Art Carney From: Little Hawk Date: 14 Nov 03 - 02:46 PM He hasn't been laid low, he's graduated from "Earth School". Great job, Mr Carney! I sure enjoyed those honeymooners episodes. You were the perfect foil to blustering Ralph Kramden. I still crack up over the episode with the thing that would "core a apple" as well as doing about fifty other handy things around the kitchen...none of which Ralph Kramden could actually get it to do properly, of course. :-) Har! Har! - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: RIP Art Carney From: Cluin Date: 14 Nov 03 - 04:35 PM I think he must have influenced Christopher Lloyd a lot too. |

It will disassemble a television. It will even core a apple! Our master chef will now demonstrate how to core a apple...." (struggle, struggle, struggle, sweat, strain, slip...!) AAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUURRGGGHHHHH!!! AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUURGGGGGHHH!!! (Ralph has hurt his little pinkie...) - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: RIP Art Carney From: musicmick Date: 15 Nov 03 - 09:17 PM My favorite Art Carney performance was in a hardboiled detective story called "The Late Show" with Lily Tomlin. He got a chance to show off his complete range as a wiley, arthritic private eye whose toughness is equal to his humanity. I don't think he was even nominated for an Oscar for this role but he was poingent and believable. Does anyone remember that he starred in the Broadway stage version of The Odd Couple? |
