Subject: Gillian's Wrecking Ball Lyrics/Chords? From: GUEST,stumd3 Date: 13 Nov 03 - 10:58 AM Good morning. Just wondering if anyone has the lyrics/chords from this great song on Gillian Welch's new cd? Some of you folks have been real helpful in the past and I appreciate it! Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Gillian's Wrecking Ball Lyrics/Chords? From: harpgirl Date: 13 Nov 03 - 01:08 PM I can't seem to find a lyrics page for "Soul Journey" that will load up. That is the name of the new Gillian Welch album I didn't even know about. I didn't realize the "Wrecking Ball" was on it. Is it the song that Emmy Lou Harris had on her album by the same name, "Wrecking Ball?" |
Subject: RE: Gillian's Wrecking Ball Lyrics/Chords? From: GUEST,stumd3 Date: 13 Nov 03 - 03:14 PM No, it's a different song, and it's one of the best things I've heard in a while. Wanted to cover it maybe with my band. The rest of the album is quite good as well - some songs with a little band. The song Harris did is a cover of a great Neil Young song from his awesome FREEDOM record. |
Subject: Lyr Add: WRECKING BALL (G Welch, D Rawlings) From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Nov 03 - 12:35 PM I listened to a sound sample, and it makes me wonder: Why does someone with such a beautiful voice and carefully written songs allow her words to be muffled like this? Copied from http://interactiveu.berkeley.edu:8000/CA/stories/storyReader$1156, where the transcriber admits "This one needs a lot of help." WRECKING BALL (Gillian Welch and David Rawlings) Get on board [or "Look out boy"], 'cause I'm a rolling stone. That's what I was when I first left home. Subject: Lyr Add: WRECKING BALL (G Welch, D Rawlings) From: Jim Dixon Date: 30 Apr 07 - 11:40 PM Here's an improved transcription, though I'm not sure it's 100% accurate. I examined several transcriptions found on the Internet (they certainly do vary!) and listened to a recording WRECKING BALL (Gillian Welch and David Rawlings) Well, now, boy, 'cause I'm a rolling stone. That's what I was when I first left home. I took every secret that I'd never known And headed for the wall Like a wrecking ball. Started down on the little road of sin Playing bass under a pseudonym. Days were rough, and it's all quite dim, But my mind cuts through it all Like a wrecking ball. Ah, just a little deadhead. Who is watching? Who is watching? Ah, I was just a little deadhead, Lone daughter on a scholarship. I got tired and let my average slip. Then I's a farmer in the Pogonip, Where the weed that I recall Was like a wrecking ball. I met a lovesick daughter of the San Joaquin. She showed me colors I'd never seen, Drank the bottom out of my canteen, And left me here to fall Like a wrecking ball. Standing there in the morning mist Jack and Coke at the end of my wrist, Yes, I remember when first we kissed, Though it was nothing at all Like a wrecking ball. Hey, boy, little deadhead, Who is watching? Who is watching? Ah, I was just a little deadhead, With too much trouble for me to shake. Oh, the weather and blinding ache Was riding high until the eighty-nine quake Hit the Santa Cruz Garden Mall Like a wrecking ball. |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Wrecking Ball (G Welch, D Rawlings From: Ruth Archer Date: 01 May 07 - 02:44 AM How much do I love this song?! I have it with Gillian and David and those beautiful boys from Old Crow Medicine Show singing it...every time I hear it it brings tears to my eyes. Maybe because I remember the 89 quake so well - it was the portent that made me leave So Cal for good and all, and listening to that song brings back that time... thanks for posting the lyrics. |
