No! Not George Bush! Sam Bush! He'd be great! Never had a world-class mandolin player as chief exec before. Think of the possibilities! Think of the Oval Office jam sessions. Think John Cowan singing the National Anthem at the innauguration backed up by Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas and David Grisman.

Listen! It could be done! Just start a new political party called the "Red Pelican Party" and get Sam to be the nominee. Get his name on the ballot in all fifty states and, when Election Day gets here there will be enough people confused by both "Bush - Republican" and "Bush - Red Pelican" appearing on the ballot that they'll vote for the wrong guy and Sammy will get elected. Or, at least, he'll syphon enough votes away from the Shrub that whoever the Democrats eventually cough up will win and GWB can go back to Texas permanently.

Come to think of it, we haven't had a stringed instrument player for President since Thomas Jefferson, have we? Clinton was a decent saxophonist (though I doubt Clarence Clemens would have ever jammed with him if he had just been some schmoe from Arkansas instead of Prez), but who cares? And should we really have trusted someone whose axe of choice looks more like a demented plumbing project than anything a normal person would learn to play. No wonder he lied about a blowjob.

There is a difference between George W. Bush and Sam Bush.

George W. Bush is the one who's President - Sam Bush is a mandolin player

George W. Bush is (nominally) from Texas - Sam Bush is from Kentucky

George W. Bush is well known for his association with white-collar criminals - Sam Bush is well known for his association with some of the best musicians in the world

Gibson has named a mandolin in honor of Sam Bush - Nobody in their right mind would name anything after George W. Bush

George W. Bush once used some pretty heavy drugs but now denies it - Sam Bush would probably say "Hell yes, I inhaled! It won't work if you don't!"

I have met Sam Bush and he's a helluva nice guy - I wouldn't walk across the street to meet George W. Bush

Okay...I, like, get it, eh? I dont think there are any mandolin players in heavey metal music...but Sam Bush sounds okay to me. If he dont' make president, there is always Blind River municipal politicks, eh? He coudl come here and be mare of this town. I would vote for him.

If George W. Bush came here, I would kick his ass. He thinks he is the new Napoleeon Buanapart or something. He sucks majorly. Ya know, outside of his musicianship, one thing that's always impressed me about Sam is his fashion sense. Nobody wears an old baseball jersey or bowling shirt with quite the same style. We could use some style in the Whitehouse and we certainly ain't gonna get it from the Bush that's living there now.
