O.K so lets name and shame but give some facts about why they are troublemakers please. We have all seen the nastiness and personal attacks on threads....who is responsible????

GS, I'd suggest this sort of an action be suggested to Max before execution. Much as I appreciate the impulse, I think you are walking on what is known as a slippery slope indeed.

If you appropriate Mudcat bandwidth in order to start a public excoriation and/or witchhunt, you are likely to cause as much trouble as anyone you might want to name here-- and I notice you didn't include anyone!

Those who deserve inclusion are unlikely to learn from being named. Those who are named unjustly will be hurt, and none will be served by it.

Learning civility is an individual lesson.

Georgainsilver, take a deep breath, count to ten, get in an anger management class, start drinking, stop drinking, turn to or from religion, get a hobby, there must be some solution for you. (Just joking, so don't burn down my house) Seriously, could you offer some specifics as to what the heck you are talking about here? I think this idea has very little to offer in a constructive vein.

I don't share a lot of people's ideas. politics, religions, etc in this forum, but this is common ground where I come to meet folks, try to learn something. maybe make some new friends. See where other people are coming from. Seems like a better attitude. But maybe that is just my opinion.

Well, while I think it real "brown shirtism" to point out the "troublemakers" I don't think it's out of bounds fir troublemakers to steo forward. But only if they wish...

I am a troublemaker! Hey, I like being a troublemaker. Someone has to do it...

But I would like to think I do it with a level of humor and respect for those with whom I disagree...

Now, I will admit to calling *ne*other Catter "sick" and told that Catter that I would not be interacting much with them because of their behavior. That's about as close as I have come to disrespecting someone personally.

However, if anyone else has felt that I personally attacked them, I would appreciate them PM'ing me fir an apology...

Bobert

G S - Most of the 'abusive' posts on the Cat seem to come from those
who post anonymously as Guests , which is very easy to do , wether you are a member or not . There are a lot of posts which are mildly impolite , usually VERY tongue in cheek , so I will go along with Amos's comments and leave it there .

Its funny that a thread with such a dark title has turned into one of the most entertaining I've read in a long time.

Bobert, you always crack me up. Sorry you have been hoaxed.

Maybe this could be the start of another Mudcat t-shirt. It would be black, with the banjo shown broken over someone's head, the little catfish lying dead at his feet. The first honorary copies would be sent, free of charge, to Sinsull and Bobert for their gracious (but undeserved) self-nominations.

Thankful there have been no other nominations so far :-)

John Kerry
George W. Bush
Tony Blair
Saddam Hussein
John Edwards
Ronald Reagan (R.I.P.)
The Dalai Lama
Bill Clinton
Ralph Nader
The Pope
Donald Rumsfeld
Ariel Sharon
Yasser Arafat
Vicars (in general)
Dick Cheney
Halliburton Inc.
Michael Moore
Millard Fillmore
John Howard
Michael Howard (no relation)
The Rev. Ian Paisley
Monica Lewinsky
Jerry Adams
Nigerian 419 scammers
The International Accordeon, Banjo, Bodhran and Saw Manufacturers Association
Gurus (of various persuasions)
Mike Harding
Kim Howells
Various government agencies with initials, in assorted countries
Eminem
Clear Channel
Cletus
Valéry Giscard d'Estaing
Karl Marx
Adam Smith
Sonny Bono
Bugs Bunny (he's definitely at the root of it all, I'm sure of that)

I strongly suspect all these people are posting, or have posted, potentially annoying and provocative material posing as perfectly innocent Guests...

This seems a harmless enough topic for a thread to me. Of course, there's always room for somone to turn it nasty, but that applies to anything.

"Troublemakers" is a very ambiguous word. It can mean, at one end of the scale, people who make waves, and at the other end, people who try to poison the waterhole. In between there are people muddying the water to one degree or another.

In the right circumstances "troublemaking" is a desirable thing. The missing beatitude is "Blessed are the Troublemakers" - though maybe it's implied in "Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice".

I think there's a big difference between enjoying a discussion on the Midcat, even a disputatious discussion, and attempting to turning such discussions into quarrels. And friendly insults between people who wish to be friends are a very different matter from hostile insults directed at people identified as enemies, on the basis of some disagreement.

Troublemakers, rabbel-rousers; here ye set the pace
Movers, shakers, travel trousers; lead our frantic race
Music minded politicians mince another's phrases
Cyber blinded by remitions; flound'ring through the phases

The list is growing, count me in; I've got so much to learn
But who's all knowing peaceful grin can rise above and spurn
Words and weapons, spinning outward; aren't the concentrated
Daily coupons, hero cowards; support the abberated

Conclusive as resolution is; it's open ended still
Exclusive has, the exclusion is: hardship splits the bill
Forum your mind, feelers fighting; we're O.K. after all
Be not unkind, mood the lighting; let yourself enthrall

Why Don't You Just Grow Up

Why don't you just grow up and stop the little tantrums
Why don't you just chill out, why don't you take a pill
There's something more to life than what's contained in your agenda
You voice, 'mein fuhrer' is just a little shrill
Always with the talk
Always with the lecture
There's nothing that is good enough
There's nothing that will do
So stop with the sarcasm, the scorn and the invective
School is out, ya, class is through

If I give you the chance to plead insanity
It's almost like the truth and that will do for some
And when they ask you what it was that drove you to distraction
Say the world just wasn't ready for the 'Son of God' to come
Get off of that high horse, cut the condescension
Don't do me any favours, stop looking down your nose
I'm not overwhelmed by the glory of your presence
Why don't you take a number,
I'll let you know when you are close!

Why don't you just speak plain and drop the innuendo
My eyes are going bad trying to read between your lines
It's very hard to understand just what it is you're saying
When your ideas are only 3s and you tart 'em up as 9s
And when it comes to that,
There's one thing that I've wondered
Who does your thinking for you
Who puts you "In The Know"?
Whoever that guy is, he's getting way to much
When you're handing out the pink slips,
He's the guy that aught to go!

Are there any troublemakers on Mudcat?
Grumpy bastards, yes.   Heated exchanges.
But surely nothing too bad. I've had worse arguments with my WIFE than I've seen on here. The thread gets pulled if it gets bad, and so it should. Blessed is the peacmaker.

But I do like a little vinegar on my chips. Too much milk and honey is a bland diet.
