It comes as no surprise to find that the current licensees are leaving the pub in about a month. The curse of the pubco strikes again and this is the 6th change of landlord in just over 5 years.

Once again we will have to determine whether we can carry on with our Tuesday Acoustic workshop and Sunday afternoon sessions, once the new people are installed (assuming that they can get someone).

Who knows ,maybe we'll get back to having a good choice of real ales in this pub that, only last year, was voted CAMRA East Riding pub of the year for its range of beers and live acoustic music. At the moment I couldn't argue a case for it even being in the Good Beer Guide as there are times when there is no hand pulled beer on at all!

In the meantime we will be carrying on with Tuesday nights and Sunday afternoons and hope for better times (although the landlord has stopped booking bands on a Sunday night).

sorry but the pubco will never sell not while there's idiots a plenty with the misconception that a large amount of cash teaches you the fickle trade of pub management and unfortunatly as another very nice couple albeit misguided hit the trail there's another twenty queueing up to take their place

I'm a bit confused now. We went in for our acoustic workshop last night and there was the best beer range available since the current licensees took over - five hand-pulled real ales plus scrumpy cider and wheat beer. There was also a board up advertising bands on for Saturday and Sunday night.

Ian, the landlord, says that he is leaving on Tuesday 31st August and has no information on whether it will close for a while or whether anyone will move straight in. He is also of the opinion, although he doesn't know for sure, that the pubco may be selling it. Apparently Ian saw someone taking pictures of the outside of the pub last week and he looked as if he was compiling a sales brochure.

The current licensees leave during the day of next Tuesday (31st) and we don't know at this stage whether the pub will be open in the evening. So, we will turn up for our regular Tuesday workshop and, if it is closed, head for one of the other pubs in town and leave a note on the door advising latecomers where we have gone.

Any ideas as to a good alternative venue in Beverley on a Tuesday night - preferably serving real ale and somewhere away from the main bar where we can play?

Come over to the Six Bells in Barrow, on the south bank. It's always a welcoming place, and you can have a good sing/toon while pondering which venue to go to in Beverley next week.

Since Bassic's thread about the sun re-opening has been consigned to the BS section I thought that I'd better post something up here.

The Sun opened again last Thursday under a new landlord but the same pubco. Shaun (the new landlord)is keen to welcome in musicians again but want a week or two to settle in before he is "inundated". During the Tuesday session at Nellies this week we discussed whether or not to move back - most people favour the Sun as a venue but there is concern that, since the regime is the same (£2.15 a pint!!), we may end up in the same situation a year down the line. For the moment we are staying put in Nellies but will review in a week or two.

There has also been a suggestion that the Sunday sessions may roll round from Nellies to Monk's to Sun on different weeks - any comments on that? Anyway it is the Monk's this Sunday at 2pm.

In response to the last "Guest" it would make a lot of sense to have a rolling programe of sessions.My sess is indeed at the "Monks walk" this Sunday. I will continue to support any sess on the other Sundays in the month ,be they at "Nellies" or the "Sun"

I'm not knocking it Mick, but pouring it is an entirely different skill from pulling a pint of real ale. I also have this (entirely incorrect) idea of bar staff in real ale pubs knowing something about the beers and the breweries - I'm obviously doomed to alife of disappointment :-)

This Friday (Nov. 12th) there is the first in a new series of Friday night sessions hosted by Graham and Jo. This is the beginning of our resurgence at the Sun so a good turnout would be much appreciated in order to impress the new Landlord that live music is a good idea.

Same goes for Sunday 28th at 3pm when the Deanmeister and I host the first of the new monthly Sunday sessions there. (and only two days after my birthday too)

I think that my guitar case has become magnetised too as it tends to swing in that direction when I leave the house.

Excellent afternoon/evening once we all got settled upstairs. Great job gettting the fire going Pip and Di! We must ask Anna to get the fire lit sooner if we're to go up again. I've never heard Mary sing before so three songs, from memory, were most unexpected and Alans play on Grey funnel/tunnel raised a chuckle or two.
