Evening all....

I've had a bit of a stroke of luck - my dream concertina has arrived. Now, my agent saw it and snapped it up and has offered me first refusal at a silly price, real bargain stuff. But, and here's the rub... I'm flat broke at the moment!

So - what better opportunity to rationalise my instrument collection?

I have a Castagnari D/G Melodeon

A Lachenal English concertina, rosewood ends 5 fold bellows.

A settimio soprani 120 bass accordion (sounds fantastic)

If anyone is interested in any of these PM me.

(I was thinking about £550 UK for the melodeon, much the same for the concertina and about £350 ish for the accordion.)

The melodeon and the tina I have been playing professionally for a couple of years, so they are well maintained - the accordion sits in the studio as it's a bit big to take to gigs.

I've also got a couple of spare fiddles if anyone's looking for one.

Cheers
English Jon

Well, it's immaculate and plays better than most. I'd rather not sell it to be honest, but if you are really interested, PM me! - I've been lusting after a Boudet luteback (silly money) lately, so maybe this would spur me into activity on that front too!

cheers,
EJ

"What model Castagnari is it?"

sorry Mary! missed that bit - it's a Lilly. about 20 years old, cherry wood case, goes down to low notes rather than accidentals (proper trad, you know me). I recently overhauled it - just need to do the bellows seal (10 minute job) have got the gasket, just haven't had time yet.

Cheers

Jon

I'm also looking for a reasonable gurdy, but also am rather thin financially.

What model Settimo Soprani? (Number Reeds/Stops - waterfall or not?) I think some models of them are the nicest accordions ever made. My 32 bass is wonderful. The 48 bass is good too.

Robin

A friend of mine may well be interested, but nowhere do you list your "PM". This could be helpful...

Let's see who gets the answer in first...

Steve-o - click on the little "PM" next to English Jon's name on one of his posts, or in the drop down "Quick Links" menu on the top of the main page, select "Send a Personal Message".

Ooh! reply time - Away I have been, Mudcat also broken was. Talk like yoda I do. In the morning, too early it is.

EBarnacle -

The lachenal is a standard 48 key english, rosewood ends, 5 fold bellows, bone buttons - approximate date of manufacture is 1875 (although its hard to tell with lachenals - could be 15 years either side).

It's a lovely concertina - even if it is a "tutor model" - it's quite quick considering, and I've been playing it professionally for a couple of years now - the only reason for sale is fundraising for this rolls royce of a tina that's come up, and basically I can only play one at a time, so the lachenal needs to go to a new home.

I saw a mahoganny ended 48 key with 4 fold bellows and metal buttons in Hobgoblin the other day for about £795 - I think mine is worth a look if your considering taking up the instrument.

Foolestroupe -

It's a Settimio Soprani "Grand" - the bass side has a coupler (that needs a little attention to make it reliable again - should be an easy job, it's not that much of a problem though to be honest, hence I never fixed it). It brings in an extra set of bass reeds and its very meaty indeed. 4 combinations available on the right hand - Off the top of my head single (concert pitch) reed, single and low octave (deeply sexy), single and musette (a little wide for my tastes but not too extreme) or "master" (all three reed sets - great for scottish stuff). It's quite heavy though, although I have played worse. Not a problem if your sitting down - maybe it just needs a back strap. HG wise, best to PM me.

Ned -

Fiddles - nothing particularly interesting to a dealer - there's an old unmarked trade fiddle which I suspect will sound ok when it's strung up, but I need to do the post on it - it's not particularly pretty, but looking at the arching I reckon it should be good and loud. - also my old "Dutch" instrument "Gaspar Bourbon tot Brussels 1691" yeah right... which is actually a lovely fiddle, but needs a lot of work if it's to be put back into trade condition - I set it up so that it worked when I had no money for fingerboards etc (which it NEEDS - present one is a rather peculiar shape - previous owner was obviously a concert soloist from the wear pattern at the high end of the board). Anyway, I'll see you soon enough no doubt!

Anyway - hope that's some help to you all. My soul is also available, just come to a crossroads near you at midnight etc...

Cheers.
Jon

New on the list!

Hohner C/F 2 row, grey perloid finish - lovely sounding box, great for singing with. £250

Stentor fiddle with case and bow - student instrument, but this one happens to sound fantastic. No problems anywhere, good action. Even the bow is halfway decent. £100

unfortunately someone has just driven into the back of my car. grrrr.

cheers.
Jon

I forgot about these!
......Great Highland Bagpipes!!!!

Basic starter set, fully working Made in Edinburgh - Black Velvet bag with gold trim, so you can play Binou Braz music on it instead if you like and it won't look out of place. With case, spare chanter, a couple of reeds and an insane book on how to play the bugger. I no longer need these as my next door neighbour has started treating me more like a human being. £175

Cheers
Jon

Hello Brian

Well that's a good question!

I got it from Chris Algar and he valued it then ~ probably 18 months ago at £1900 may be 'worth' more or less but it is worth what [I] can get for it!!

Interested?

Ray
