Catters are warned not to use Les Sullivan's new CD with a sub-bass woofer.

You've obviously discovered Johnny Collins' bass then.

PLUG> PLUG> PLUG> The Les Sullivan CD - Echoes of Mingulay (yes we are related in an incestuous sort of way) to be officially launched at Herga FC on October 11th.

I'm not being paid for this, honest. But he's too shy!!!

It is a wonderful CD. As it should be indeed, with 13 of Les' best songs (some of them already hits with singers in the UK, US and Australia like "Deadeye Sound" and "Five Pounds", or recorded by other artists like "Jutland" and "Roses of No Man's Land"), superbly sung by Les himself with HergaKitty and Johnny Collins providing harmonies. I pitched in myself with a little guitar bass here and there and the occasional third harmony.

I also recorded and mixed it, and I am proud to have captured Johnny Collins hitting an ultra-low G, below 50Hz, i.e. below the hum of electricity! It is in the closing harmony of the "Ballad of Tubby Clayton". Turn the volume up, your dentures out, lock the cat in the WC and enjoy...

Les writes amazing songs that immediately feel traditional and that challenge the listener to join in. Buy the album. Better still, go to Herga on 11th October for his launch concert and join with us in the choruses.

And we've managed to already have him at our 2 clubs in St Albans in the previous 6 months.
The intensity has to be seen.
Any decent singer would want to include a Sullivan song in their repertoire.
glad this thread is up

and to have J c singing from way down below, well I cant wait.

I have a copy of this that I asked Les to bring to Wareham, and it is Bloody amazing!! I am seriously impressed with this, The Songs are beautiful, well written and with that "traditional" feel we all wish we could achieve in our own songwriting. The harmony singing is truly magical, I have Never heard Herga Kitty singing harmony Better!! that she is awesome solo I already knew but this is a whole new dimension (for me)to her voice and Johnny Collins is excellent too. and George's accompaniment is truly great as well, sensitive and complementary to the words. All in all a wonderful CD!!!

A couple of stunning performances from Les (and Kitty) in the singaround at Chipping Norton yesterday led to a healthy number of sales of this great CD.

Thanks Snuffy - although I think the sales were assisted by Les's announcement that half the proceeds would go to the local Home Nurse charity that the singaround was in aid of!

But we got some very positive feedback from Pete Sibley in the late night informal singaround - he'd listened to the first 9 tracks after the first singaround ended, and hadn't even got to track 12 yet!

Kitty

PS

FAA was a really enjoyable event all round (as it should be with a name like that). My first encounter with NYFTE, and recommended for next year if anything like as good!

as Les plays for modest fees he could not afford to pay for any publicity.

I'm so glad to have heard him on more than a few occasions and to have heeded the recommendations of his admirers from Herga ,esp Moses .

Les is booked for St Albans again ,look out for him there.

His missus will be there next Friday 1st Oct at the Duke of Marlborough, so come and ask her, maybe she will bring a CD with her.

Echoes of Mingulay is a lovely CD, excellent tracks, played it on the way home from Chipping Norton. Heard Les & Kitty sing Roses of No Man's Land at Wareham, had to get the CD for that song alone ~ it's beautiful.

A fine performance from everyone, thanks.

We had Roses of No man's land last night done very well by Moses who also sang Jutland to very tasteful guitar work by Chris Flegg at the Spotlight folk Club in St Albans
next week its Chris Amos on Sunday at the Legion unless its the Duke!

Guest, the beauty of Les' tunes is that they all sound traditional. The answer is no, Dedeye Sound's tune is Les' own, but it SHOULD have been traditional!

Does this mean that Kitty will be there too?

I think that's what she means. Unless she's practicing to harmonise over cellphone. In all likelihood Trevor will be there too, then - lovely unaccompanied voice, keep him a spot.

It'll be a great singalong night next Friday.

But my request from Les is a solo non-chorus one: "Mary's Leaving" - stuff to slash your wrists by as you drink the arsenic with your head in the gas oven at the bottom of the deep blue sea. Life is simply not worth it after such a song. Luvleh!

Wrist slashing stuff indeed, but good with it. Most of Les's stuff has been written from personal experience and events and images that have affected him over the years. With Mary's Gone Now, whenever I hear the song I am transported back to the day he and I removed the bin bags from an otherwise empty flat and closed another chapter in life. For me 'Echoes of Mingulay' is almost as personal as it is for Les. There are a lot more songs, when's the next CD? Ginger him up George.
