That wonderful about your grandchildren learning Welsh! Good motivation for you to keep up, eh? I envy anyone who is raised bi-lingual.

Re' which songs: I'm jest a lil' ol' gal raised in the Wild West, so mostly I know old cow songs and a some of the dance tunes my mom and dad used to play. Sorry to say I, even though I've had quite an educatin here on the Mudcat, that I don't recognise most of the titles you've listed. Of course, I am terrible with names, too, so if I heard the tune I may know it. That really doesn't help much, does it?

I think the range of the Welsh song I heard was a better fit for her voice than Wild Mountain Thyme (one I actually know!), BUT I haven't heard the Welsh one recently so I may be remembering wrongly. Sorry I cannot be of more help. I just know what I like when I hear it.:-)

Thanks for sharing!

kat

In view of the above, are there any songs which you would like Mrs P to record?

What would best suit her voice?

My personal favourite has always been Lowlands of Holland, followed by Wild Mountain Thyme. I think she does the slow ones best.

Other songs she sings (or has sung in the past) but has not yet recorded include

Our Captain cried all hands
The Nutting Girl
Gentleman Soldier
Gaudete
Rout of the Blues (with me)
The King (as in Please to see the King) (with me)
Bonny bunch of Thyme

and a few other Welsh ones which I can't remember (or spell) offhand

Thanks kat,

We intend to record some more Welsh songs when we are back in the studio.

Although Dawne is not Welsh-speaking, her father WAS, as a child, and our grandchildren are both attending a Welsh-language school (they are not yet 4, so it is half-days only).

As a Londoner, I am doing my best to learn a little so I can keep up with the kids!

Nicely done!

(I still prefer the Welsh one, though, as does my one year old grandson!)

I have just uploaded this song to the motagator web site.
You can hear or download it from here:

Dawne's songs on Motagator

Unfortunately, although it is a good performance, there is one place in the recording where there is slight interference from a mobile phone. When we get a chance, we will re-record it to see if we can improve this.
