Looks like we all got home safe, if we went away for the holiday. I am thankful for that. I am thankful also because one of my daughters-in-law gave us the news that, in April of '05, we will be welcoming our #5 grandchild!!! Groveling with gratitude. Got to see all the other 4 on Thurs. And take pictures. Duh. And tomorrow, Sunday the 28th, I become 61 years old.

No way anyone could earn all that wonderfulness. God is certainly kinder to me than I deserve. I've noticed that when some 'Catters slow down enough to think for a minute they have similar psycho/emotional conditions.

Thanks to the marvelous folks who conceived and are maintaining this place.       Tw

Congratulations, Tw! That's wonderful news.
Welcome home, all traveling 'Catters. I stayed where I was, only traveled about 15 miles for my turkey feast. I am thankful I didn't have to fight traffic!

We had a double dose of thankfulness these last few days. Thanksgiving day, my wife Ruth and I went to St,. Albans (over here, it's in Queens, New York, to share the day with Ruth's brother and sister-in-law, and a whole slug of family members, friends and strangers. Irving and Sarah have to be the most generous people I have ever met, and there are always at least a couple of people at Thanksgiving who they've never met... friends of relatives who have no place to go for Thanksgiving. I know all about that from the years I lived in New York City and ate in a modest restaurant for Thanksgiving. (I refused to get sliced turkey breast and cranberries though, because it seemed too pathetic a substitute for the real thing.)

The day before Thanksgiving, we received a call from my oldest son, who lives in Florida. We haven't seen him, our daughter-in-law and two Grandkids in over a year. My son was calling from New York, and they'd just came in on a flight to be here for the weekend. Gideon is interviewing for a job in New York City on Monday so he brought the whole family up. They had Thanksgiving at our daughter-in-law's family and then, the day after Thanksgiving came here for most of the day. What a joyous time! It was great to see the change in our Grandkids, and I hooked up the Playstation so our Grandson Hunter, age 6, could play it.

When I give thanks, I don't confuse being blessed with being lucky. Luck comes in all flavors... good and bad. Blessings are just one flavor, and I thank God for such a wonderful two days of joyful celebration.

Thanks for starting this thread,Tannywheeler..

Jerry

Happy birthday Tannywheeler.

I'm thankful for all the wonderful people who have made my move to Maine so much easier with their welcome, and for the fact that it is possible to make the trip back to the UK for Christnas in less than a day. That really does give me the best of all possible worlds.

Did I just catch Bobert saying something nice to this womenz? Wow! Jerry, you're entirely welcome, my dear (as my mother used to say). Can't ever repay the spirit-lifts I get from you folks. While I've got your attention --

Hubby has COPD from long-term smoking (now ended). Having some symptom flare-ups and will probably spend his day off(Tues.) at the VA being seen to instead of relaxing at home. You know anyone who smokes throw a fit, scream and yell, describe graphically (if you can) the discomfort and capacity-deteriorating effects the habit will have. (It probably won't do much good.) Let them know they are not only hurting themselves but those who share their lives. Eventually the combined weight of hearing/knowing may help someone. "One never knows, do one?"    Tw

Hey, Tanny:

My brother-in-law was a heavy smoker for many years, and the Doctors kept telling him he was killing himself. Didn't have the least effect. Until he had his first heart attack and almost died. Finally, he stopped smoking because he was having trouble breathing.
Now, he's on oxygen, and has lost so much strength in his body that he can't walk without falling over. Right now, he is in the hospital until they can make arrangements for him to go into a nursing home.
My heart goes out to him, because he is very depressed.

My sister has carried the burden all these years and has serious health problems of her own. She has seen her husband waste away to nothing, because of smoking.

AND SHE IS STILL SMOKING.....

Thank God I never started. But, I know that people can quit. My parents both were heavy smokers and many years ago when the first Surgeon General's report linked smoking to lung cancer, they got up from watching the news on the tv, and threw their cigarette packs in the garbage. Neither of them smoked again. My Father lived until he was 92, and My Mother is still going strong, looking forward to celebrating her 98th birthday.

My Father, by the way, carried a pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket for a long time, after he stopped smoking, just to show that cigarettes couldn't get the best of him.

I'm just glad that your husband has stopped smoking. That gives you a fighting chance...

Our hearts and prayers go out to both of you.

Jerry and Ruth

Kendall always tells smokers that smoking lost him his voice, but most smokers don't believe it's going to happen to them.

All the best TW - I hope things go well for both of you.

God Bless Us, everyone -- to coin a phrase.
The good news:
Hubby taking better care of himself the past cupla yrs. since he quit. Doesn't need oxygen (yet?) and can still work, but takes meds to cope with some of the symptoms. We've dodged a serious bullet so far, I guess.       Tw
