Subject: RE: Struggling with a quiz From: greg stephens Date: 24 Jan 05 - 12:40 PM I find it difficult to keep up with the way they keep changing county boundaries and names, but I have a feeling that recently, if not now, there were 8 counties in Wales...might this be the answer to 8=C in W? |

Subject: RE: Struggling with a quiz From: DMcG Date: 24 Jan 05 - 12:52 PM 8 gallons in a bushel, and 47 strings on an orchestral harp, I believe |
Subject: RE: Struggling with a quiz From: Raggytash Date: 24 Jan 05 - 12:55 PM A bushel is normally a dry measurement of 4 pecks to a bushel |
Subject: RE: Struggling with a quiz From: rumanci Date: 24 Jan 05 - 12:56 PM yes Raggy .......often it is ......but it can also be used for liquids :-) |
Subject: RE: Struggling with a quiz From: DMcG Date: 24 Jan 05 - 12:59 PM Ah, but I recited the following many hundred of times at primary school 4 gills, one pint, 2 pints, one quarts, 4 quarts, one gallon 8 pints, one gallon, 2 gallons, one peck, 4 pecks one bushel, 8 bushels, one quarter. |
Subject: RE: Struggling with a quiz From: Raggytash Date: 24 Jan 05 - 01:00 PM That true, I've just it up on the internet....... never knew that Thanks Dunc |
Subject: RE: Struggling with a quiz From: greg stephens Date: 24 Jan 05 - 01:00 PM The fact that there are 8 gallons in a bushel does not imply that you are measuring a liquid.Corn, for example, was measured in gallons and bushels, because you can pour it. But it's not a liquid! |

Subject: RE: Struggling with a quiz From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 10 Feb 05 - 06:47 AM Trevor I appreciate your knowledge of English Grammer would seem to exceed mine, however this quiz was set by a squaddie and perhaps his knowledge of grammer, like mine, is less than yours. Cheers |
Subject: RE: Struggling with a quiz From: greg stephens Date: 10 Feb 05 - 07:28 AM Knowing the general thrust of a lot of military humour, I would guess the answer to this one may be unprintable, politically incorrect, and refer to Iraq. But I cant think of anything appropriate. |
