Subject: RE: BS: Folkie Burger King TV Commercial From: sylverdollar Date: 15 Apr 05 - 08:01 AM If this matters to anyone: I've been scolded by a number of Hootie fans(back when such a creature was common) for referring to Darius Rucker as "Hootie". Apparently "Hootie and the Blowfish" is the name of the band, but "Hootie" does not denote the lead singer or any other individual in the band. So, you can all pick on someone else about that now, I suppose. Personally, I got a huge kick out of that commercial. Darius Rucker, at the hight of his career, made his living doing what I've heard referred to as "white frat-boy" music", but he had charisma and he did it well. Seeing him "branching out" in a Burl Ives direction like this is just cool as heck if you ask me. He should cut and album. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folkie Burger King TV Commercial From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 28 Mar 05 - 07:12 AM You mean it's offensive because it's a cheerful song being sung by a black bloke? Even though it's not a song that's specially associated with the Minstrel Shows? If you're black, get back and sing soul or rap or blues, and leave funny songs to the white blokes... Strange. (It didn't even have any fried chicken in it. Unless you mean that mention of breasts, which I didn't actually take as referring to chickens.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Folkie Burger King TV Commercial From: GUEST,Alice Date: 28 Mar 05 - 06:25 AM Sure, there's a lot of sex going on in this commercial, big fat deal - that isn't the offensive part of this advert. Has anyone else picked up on the whole MNSTREL SHOW angle going on here? Not to mention that EVERY fast food commercial has black people selling the fried chicken lines of their restaurants. This is abominable, despite the brilliant art direction. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folkie Burger King TV Commercial From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Mar 05 - 04:04 PM I'm puzzled why anyone wouldn't like this one. Most agreeable. Never seen or heard of the guy singing it, but he does it ok. It hasn't been on the box over here, so far as I've seen I've seen. Just enter the URL http://www.whoyoutalkinat.com/BKHootie_Long.wmv into Window Media Player and see if you agree. Mind, I'd never think of going into a Burger King any more than a McDonalds. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folkie Burger King TV Commercial From: GUEST Date: 21 Mar 05 - 09:46 AM I've even heard a different version on the radio. Some lyrics are like.. Those breasts are made from Chicken, and to your ribs they're stickin. Then something about the bacon, cooked up in a pan. It is one of those things as your are hearing it, you have to wonder if they are serious, of if it is some spin off on it by the radio station. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folkie Burger King TV Commercial From: GUEST,Dave'sWife Date: 19 Mar 05 - 05:47 AM wow. major thread deteroriation. Speaking of folkie commericals... Anybody know where I can get a copy of that Danya Kurtz version of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' in the Sheraton Commercials??? It's really wonderful. The short spot running now uses the 'traveler in the night' verse. I searched the net for it when they fis started running it and couldn't find anything except the travel industry news articles about the campaign which mention the song. I even emailed them using their 'contact us' spot on their website and they replied and I paraphrase..."gee, we don't know. Glad you like the campaign" >sigh< |

Subject: RE: BS: Folkie Burger King TV Commercial From: GUEST,T.A.C. Date: 15 Mar 05 - 06:40 PM yes I have seen it. Since airing it has been chopped up for saving time. With various versions. Actually it is probably mostly for men. It has a sexy woman picking chicken sandwiches out of tree in beginning. Dallas cheerleaders with lottery tickets raining down. 2 guys eating from the fields of giant French fries. And sexy woman with giant ring of onion like hula hoop round and round. And sexy woman putting cheddar blocks into place on a yellow brick road. Earlier they have 2 sexy women in olden day under hoop dress under clothing like in "gone with the wind" movie. They are dipping their finger in olden day buckets of ranch sauce liking it off finger. Then guitar singer singing about train of pretty with nice coboose (sorry about spelling, mean the back end of train). As he is singing that a mini track train with 2 handled pump goes by with 2 sexy women with tight really short cut pink pants like short shorts pumping that handle to make track flat bed car go by. Toward end guitar singer playing and that single flat bed train car going by and king in background on Hill pushing pushing sexy woman on swing. And another sexy woman with those pink short shorts and her behind waving left and right and bending down. I Kind of like this commercial. |

Subject: BS: Folkie Burger King TV Commercial? From: Teresa Date: 26 Feb 05 - 11:52 PM Ok, I keep hearing this commercial on tV. It is for burger King and uses "Big Rock Candy Mountain" for the tune. Being totally blind, I have no idea on the visuals, but it's just a guitar and voice singing about "French fries growing on trees". It's silly, but I love hearing that tune in a comercial. Anyone else in North America seen it? teresa |
