Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: Mrs.Duck Date: 25 May 05 - 07:16 AM Every advert break on TV has at least two adverts for this ringtone. Not only is it annoying it is extremely expensive. Kids are downloading it believing they are buying a ringtone and then find they have signed up for ring tones to be sent at regular intervals and often have run up debts before they are aware. It appeals to the younger end who often have no concept of read the small print and even though it says you have to be 16 to buy there is no way to actually check this. I was annoyed this morning when GMTV ran a programme long pol on the ringtone playing it several times an hour to get people to vote but in so doing were giving frre publicity to the guy who is raking in the money. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: *Laura* Date: 25 May 05 - 07:54 AM That frog really freaks me out. I don't know why - it's something about the crazy-ness of it - it actually is mental. and quite scary. Maybe I should add this to an irrational fear but... xLx |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: John MacKenzie Date: 25 May 05 - 08:30 AM TV ads aren't cheap, someone is making big bucks out of this no-brain crap. G.. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: Ellenpoly Date: 25 May 05 - 10:56 AM What makes me laugh is that the frog has a tiny penis which is blacked out in the adverts. Yes indeed, Standards and Practices are once again saving us all from having smutty thoughts about froggies. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 25 May 05 - 01:10 PM Not only is someone getting big bucks for advertising the nauseating little pollywog, but if you pay to get the ringtone, you keep paying.... LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: frogprince Date: 25 May 05 - 05:14 PM Don't tell my frog-collecting wife about this; she'll be upset because we don't get it on U.S. television. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: Bainbo Date: 25 May 05 - 06:25 PM It's gonna get worse. Did you see the news that the damn thing has a record out, which is outselling Coldplay and is likely to go to number 1? I know we're not really interested in the commercial mainstream here, but it's going to be very hard to avoid. From the bit I've heard, it sounds like the Beverley Hills Cop theme, Axel F, which was irritating enough already. |

Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: GUEST, Topsy Date: 28 May 05 - 01:57 AM I happened on a TV news item about the frog last night. The stills showed it, no HIM, complete, but in the video he was censored, with fuzzy squares hiding the 'offensive bits'. |

Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: GUEST Date: 28 May 05 - 07:57 PM I saw the pixillated frog again tonight. Maybe I should get hold of the video to find out what he can possibly be doing with his willy that needs to be covered up. They said it is only adults who find it irritating, but I like it and I'm over 60 (the sound, that is - don't know about the willy till I get to see the uncensored version). |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: Tam the man Date: 29 May 05 - 07:10 AM My father likes it and he's 80 years old. I like it as well, its these ones that don't have a sense of humour. however there are some things that I don't like and that bastard mobile phones, and the people that use them. for exapmle when you go out to a place for your lunch/dinner/bus/trian or whatever or go to a concert, there is always some dickhead who has not switched off their moblie phone, and when it rings instead of going out of the room so no one can hear you talking/shouting, they just sit there shouting to the person on the the other phone, why do they need to shout I mean is the other person deaf. I have a mobile phone myself, however I only use it when I'm telling my dad when I am coming home from a club which I visit every 2 weeks. . Tom |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: GUEST,Jon Date: 29 May 05 - 07:30 AM I'm with you on the mobile phones, Tam. They do have thier uses and I sometimes use one but a lot of people are really inconsiderate with them... Which brings me back to ringtones... Surely people don't get the things just to entertain themself when their phone rings but to "entertain" those around them too. Seems like an encouragement to be unsociable in public places... I'm quite ammused by the fuss about this ad. I'd bet half those whinging are those that inflict their noises in places where I can't turn it off - at least I can switch my own tv off. I haven't seen it yet though - I don't watch a lot of tv so it may be a while yet before I catch it (if it hasn't been stopped). |

Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: GUEST Date: 29 May 05 - 08:47 AM Having watched approx 50 under tens dancing away to the club mix of it last week, I say power to the frog. If the ring tone aspect of it is worrying parents, they are the ones buying their kids the mobile phones, who's acting irresponsibly? Ribbit ribbit. |

Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: GUEST Date: 30 May 05 - 08:39 PM There have always been novelty number one songs. Grandma, Teletubbies, Bob the flaming Builder, Birdie song etc and there always will be. Kids like them and they buy most of the singles . It's no big deal really. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 31 May 05 - 02:38 AM The whole idea of individual ring tones is that you can identify your phone when it goes off... Last week on the train that bloody frog started up and five, yes FIVE people scrabbled in their bags for their phones. Apparently there is a raven called Thor at the Tower of London, that has learned to imitate mobile phones - I'm going there on Friday to see if he can do the crazy frog tones too! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: GUEST,Jon Date: 31 May 05 - 04:21 AM The whole idea of individual ring tones is that you can identify your phone when it goes of Yes, that's why companies spend millions on advertising just one and people follow the craze... If one really wanted to be unique, why not write ones own? I don't know how you get them on the phones but I've just had a look at Mobile Music Polyphonic ($29.99 shareware) and at first glance, it looks to be simple to make them from midi, wav and mp3... |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: GUEST,muppitz at work Date: 31 May 05 - 05:05 AM Sadly the bloody crazy frog has outsold Coldplay by 3-1. I'm pleased to say none of my immediate family has purchased it, although one sister of mine is now into "Weeble and Bob", something I'm told is a brainchild of MTV, she now sits on my PC trying to record these insane clips on her phone to use as her ringtone! They are quite infectious though, I'm starting to find them funny. (And at least she doesn't have the crazy frog!) muppitz x |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: Firecat Date: 31 May 05 - 02:34 PM Actually, muppitz, I read that it outsold Coldplay by 4 to one which is even worse!!! I stand by my earlier comment - Come back Mr Blobby, all is forgiven!!!!! and add bring back the Teletubbies as well! |

Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 01 Jun 05 - 07:56 PM The problem isn't the frog or the ringtones. The problem is television. The solution is simple: Turn it off. Unplug it. Hit it repeatedly with a sledgehammer. Defenestrate the remains. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: GUEST,The Frog Date: 01 Jun 05 - 08:06 PM Wow that's downright vicious. I have feelings you know. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 01 Jun 05 - 08:13 PM I was talking about the television, Froggy. Not you. I'd never hit a frog with a sledgehammer. Far too messy. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help stop that frog! From: GUEST,The Frog Date: 01 Jun 05 - 08:24 PM Gee thanks for that. You had me all confused, in a froggy kinda way. Us frogs aren't too bright, but heck we sure ARE messy. |
