Subject: BS: mastermind From: Linda Kelly Date: 02 Aug 05 - 05:21 PM A contestant on Mastermind tonight, had as his specialist subject-The Films of Bruce Willis - I think as a nation we've peaked, don't you? |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Georgiansilver Date: 02 Aug 05 - 05:26 PM If I go on, my specialist subject would be "The Beano" 1955-60...do you reckon I would get away with it? LOL Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Le Scaramouche Date: 02 Aug 05 - 05:50 PM Whatever tickles your fancy. |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Firecat Date: 03 Aug 05 - 11:36 AM My specialist subject would be Red Dwarf in Round One, Blackadder in Round Two, The Career of Chris Barrie in the quarter finals, The Career of Hugh Laurie in the semi finals, and probably the Carry On Films in the final (if I got that far!!!) |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Flash Company Date: 03 Aug 05 - 12:12 PM I have thought in the past of submitting the David Eddings 'Belgariad' as a specialist subject, but I don't like bright lights in my face. FC |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Linda Kelly Date: 03 Aug 05 - 05:20 PM mmm you have me thinking now- I could do the 1987 Cup Final Coventry versus Tottenham Hotspurs round one, Noggin the Nog Round Two, the 1987 Financial Services Act for the quarter finals, my semis would have to be the career of Peter Wyngarde(including Department S) and either Trumpton or the influence of oriental art on 20th Century European Artisits including James Whistler (believe it!) for the finals. |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Aug 05 - 04:22 AM Someone did 'Dr Who' as their specialist subject to much criticism. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: GUEST,Cluin Date: 05 Aug 05 - 12:52 AM Used to play Mastermind. Till somebody took all the black pegs. |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Torctgyd Date: 05 Aug 05 - 09:47 AM IIRC (and I'm sure I do) a relation of one of the members of The Undertones appeared on Mastermind in the 80's and his specialist subject was the films of Steve McQueen and he got through to the next round where he was thrashed. So I don't think it's dumbed down (recently). I think I'd do the Flashman books by GMFraser in 1, melodeon players of the 21st centuary in 2, the history of the London Rubber Company in 3, ..... |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Tam the man Date: 05 Aug 05 - 12:20 PM If I went on Mastermind I would lose, because I can't er....(remember things to good) |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Kaleea Date: 06 Aug 05 - 04:59 AM I remember Dr. Who, but what's Mastermind? |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Tam the man Date: 06 Aug 05 - 08:27 AM Mastermind is a quiz programme, that the contestants have two subjects one is a speicalist one and the other is Genaral Knowledge, and you have two mintues for each subject, you sit in a chair and the quiz master asks you questions on each, and if you don't know you say pass, and the one with the fewst passes wins. It's like an iterragation. Tam |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: shepherdlass Date: 07 Aug 05 - 05:17 AM The whole point of Mastermind is that it has 2 rounds. No matter how much of a pop culture anorak you are, you still have to get a reasonable score in general knowledge too. Of course "dumbing down" is relative - you tend to find the entertainment forms of the powerful never come in for such criticism. |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Le Scaramouche Date: 07 Aug 05 - 06:54 AM Torct, excellent specialities! Especially Flashman. If I weren't the sort that freezes up in tests, I'd pick it too. Mastermind is the only quiz show I'll watch. Don't think it's dumbed down at all. Nor does it resort to the level of, say, the Weakest Link. |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Tam the man Date: 07 Aug 05 - 07:13 AM It is not a quiz for people that like Big Brother |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Mo the caller Date: 07 Aug 05 - 06:45 PM In some of the specialist rounds I think I know something, but they give away my little bits of knowledge in the questions so i still dont know the answer. |
Subject: RE: BS: mastermind From: Nigel Parsons Date: 07 Aug 05 - 08:15 PM Tam The Man: "The one with the fewest passes wins!" Not quite. The one with the most correct answers wins. If there is a tie at that point, then the one with the fewest passes wins. This is a great system for a 'decider', as, if you pass, you get the next question. If you give a wrong answer, you get the correct answer, then the next question. This means that 'passing' gives you more time, to answer a greater number of questions. Giving a deliberate wrong answer reduces your time, but increases your chance if scores are tied. Nigel (who prefers University Challenge) |
