If you run a radio show, know someone who does, can write a column for a folk-rag or can send one to those who speak about such things on the air, please please do. We want this one to hit the big-time, not just for fame but for many many reasons. For one htig, Bruce deserves it.

Promote it to those who can promote it more....you know you can!!

Oh, I have some big abstinence problems now.
I understand if you(Bruce) is busy and I honestly say: the time is yours. And that the day I will get this music will be reward enough for my patience.

I am talking about both the RCA-record and the new one.

I don't think this is meaningless spamming from me. I just want to express my feelings about the music and the waiting.

But now I will be away for one week maybe two or three. Hope I'll notice some great news when I come home.

Just back from the festival and, my goodness, Bruce was in fine form...not to mention Ron Bankley, and Jeri and April, who provided back-up vocals. The new CD is a "keeper"

Thanks, for reposting that message, gnu. Here's the hyperlink for Bruce's website:

http://www.brucemurdoch.com/

**

And I'm getting a kick out of the Google ads that appear right now on the bottom of this page. One ad says "Find peace". And the other ad says "Peace Quotes".

Given Bruce's Mudcat name I think that's funny.

But I'm known to have a weird sense of humor {humour}, so other people may not think those ads are funny.

But until that festival ends, Bruce has been a bit missing in action on Mudcat threads. And we need to "hear" from him-at least his songs if not his quotes.

Get it?

No?

Never mind.

:o)

I want to alert people that I just started a new Mudcat thread about Bruce Murdoch's new CD "Matters of the Heart". Here's the hyperlink to that thread: thread.cfm?threadid=112880&messages=1

Please post your comments about Bruce's new CD on that thread. And if you've heard some of the songs on that CD from radio shows that Bruce has been on, or otherwise, and are waiting with great anticipation to hear the actual CD, but haven't heard it yet, you can spend some of the time waiting for your CD talking about Bruce Murdoch's music on that new thread.

And last but not least, I announced on that thread and would like to announce on this thread that Bruce Murdoch has a new website at http://www.brucemurdoch.com/

That website was designed/developed by Mudcatter olddude {Dan O'Connell}, Dan volunteered his time, energy, and knowhow to make Bruce's website a reality. The website is still under construction, waiting for sound clips and other material from Bruce, but it's already looking good!

Thanks, Dan!!!

And thanks Bruce for your music.

Olddude,
We talked about doing a stores link to our web page but being the first year and so many things to put in place it was decided to hold off until next year. The idea was to sell hats, tee shirts and artist c/d. We would of course make a buck on the c/d and more on the other items.
Now our sound man just purchased some machine and wants to try and record the festival and download on c/d's with the possibility of adding this to the store when were ready. Naturally all musicians would be asked permission first if we could record them. Not sure how this is all going to work out but I'm hopeful.

Go to your local public library. Ask for the CD and have some of your friends ask for it. Many of them will buy it if people ask for it -- sometimes one person, sometimes more. DON'T tell them where to buy it or it will look like a set-up.

Adrien, I absolutely agree with what you wrote.

I believe that we need to show our sincere appreciation of Bruce's CD by purchasing it. And "we" includes everyone Bruce listed on his CD notes.

I have already done so because-like Jeri said earlier in her 12 Jul 08 - 12:57 PM post to this thread-"I KNOW the CD is good. I KNOW his new songs are good, and the more he writes the better he gets."

But can we stop Bruce from giving away all his c/d's. I know he wants to personally thank so many friends, and yes, accept them with pride and personal comfort that he has touched us all. Then send him some money for his expenses. Bruce you may not want me to say this but I will. Fuck it.
He is coming all the way from Alberta at his expense and has not asked for a penny to perform the festival. Hay! I don't want to see this man hitching back. So let us all buy his c/d's . I also want to make a comment on a few others who are contributing in much the same way to see this first Apple Hollow Fest take root.

Ron Bankley
Chris Crilly
John McCabe
Zoo
4 Strings and a Banjo
Isabelle Delage
Backwater Blues
Victor Courte
Brideg End Dairy Company
SOUL
Back Porch Band
Stormin Norman (my bro.)
Little Brown Jug
Osmosaic
Dara Weiss
Guy Laflamme

These folks are coming from distances of 2 to 3 hours drive and asking nothing but to support this new venture. It is not possible to begin a festival unless you have money and I started this with "0" dollars. But all of a sudden these precious folks came forward and asked to play. I guess it is for the love of music. But I will tell you all now that our bills are paid thanks to local business. Grants are next to impossible in the first year. I just want to add that I just might have enough to pay for at least for a tank of gas to the musicians.

We are hoping for a good gate turn out and as well good bar return. All monies collected, and I mean every god damn cent will go into next year. So if we make say two grand than this will be a stepping stone to build on to pay the musicians next year. And I have told musicians that are performing this year that they will be invited back next year and paid scale for their generosity in coming this year for next to nothing.
Sure I could pay all the musicians from the gate receipts, but what about next year? I won't go begging for them to come back for a free bee.

I almost forgot. JOU TOU coming in from B.C.
Andre Thibault and his wife will be preforming. no Charge. Andre is from Verdun and worked for me about 10 years at the Douglas (psy.)Hospital in the entertainment area for the patients. And absolutely gifted musician and wonderful person.

I think the next line is something like "the more you eat, the more you toot"...an example of great poetry and rhyming that I know Bruce surpasses on the new CD!! lol

Having lived in both Arkansas and Louisiana, I enjoyed your nativity story.....I moved from Sudbury, Ont. to Little Rock, AR and suddenly my name changed from Ken to Kean and went from one syllable to about eight or nine!!

Hey, old dude! Your comment [and mine] calls for a version of the children's rhyme "beans/beans/magical fruit" or however it goes...That's one I don't know, since I'm not fond of gross out rhymes. But you guys can sing it if you want.

**

Thanks, Bruce. Looking forward to it.

**

As to the question, what other marketing ideas can we think of for the festival, what about everyone who buys a CD gets a toy fire engine that has notes of one of Bruce's new songs instead of a siren? The fire engine would be in honor of Bruce's other interest.

And speaking of that, check out this post that I found in an old Mudcat thread-I think it's a hoot!

The Hickphonics lexicon left out "foal", you know that shiney stuff ya uses to wrap up leftovers, lumnum foal.
Ther is the story of the northerner who went south for Christmas and went to church. Outside was a nativity scene, pretty typical except that the wise men had on these big red hard hats. He asked the preacher after the service (sarviss?) what that was all about. The preacher replied, "Well it say in the Bible that the wise men came from a far"

Bubbler update - It went at least as far north as Two Rivers where I learned it.

You coulda come on down [or is it come up? or over?} to the once but no longer smokey city and let me hear your songs before your CD was released.

I am sorry to say that we will not be selling any tee shirts. This was spoken about at great length but being the first year and very little $$$$ to work with, it was to great a risk. When I worked with "the other festival" we were left with way to many items. Then there is the size thing. Any way, not this year.

The guy with the photo of the naked dude in the beans started it!

I think Ron or Beer or somebody ought to print up a mess o' T-shirts.

I KNOW the CD is good. I KNOW his new songs are good, and the more he writes the better he gets. Another thing": although he's been around forever and he's older than dirt, (insert shit-eating grin here) his stuff really is something fresh and sublime. It feels like being middle-aged and tasting chocolate for the first time.

He also gets embarrassed easily, so we talk about less embarrassing things such as naked guys jumping out of various food products and wet T-Shirts. The CD is really good (although not trad folk) but there will be no naked or wet T-shirt clad people at Apple Hollow, unless Beer is not telling us something.

Hey, quokka!

You probably know this, but for people who may be reading this and saying "What the heck?", this thread was started to praise Bruce's songs that he wrote and sung some time ago and in 2005 put on a CD and sent to folks. And this thread is also about Bruce's new CD that is going to be released and sold for the first time at Beer's upcoming festival. And this thread is about folks relaxing, having fun, and enjoying each other's company while we wait for the debut of Bruce's CD that also features Ron Bankley's instrumentation.

We're celebrating with Bruce on his meeting a cherished goal. And, given the high quality of Bruce's other songs-the ones on those CD copies and newer ones that we heard via a podcast before Beer's festival last year where Bruce performed with Ron's guitar backing- we have a feeling that this long awaited CD is going to be a really good one.
