I know a mighty fine woman who calls her middle-aged tummy, which has hosted a few loverly children and other souveniers of a life well lived, her "lap puppy." She can wear any jeans she damn well pleases as far as I'm concerned.

I think it looks terrible, too, Wesley, but have you ever looked throught he women's clothing departments in common venues such as Walmart/Kmart, etc.? Any woman who is not built like an anorexic teen finds nothing but bags/sacks/elastic waistband crap in the larger sizes. PLUS, if you are short AND "plus-size" forget it! The crotch will reach to your knees and the hem will be a good 4-6 inches too long.

That, plus most sizing, unless one can afford to shop at more expensive stores, has been reduced over the years, perhaps because a lot of it is made overseas, i.e. Asia, where sizing is just smaller. Today's size 14 is more like yesterday's 16/18.

Unfortunately, many women still buy into the "fashion fad" dictating what they wear, so...they may buy the smaller size because they cannot get it in the right size, then squeeze themselves in..ridiculous, I know, but they will be slaves to fashion, at times. I've seen too many teens who are NOT too skinny, also "flowing" over with the shorter shirts and hip-huggers. It's sad!

I always called those rolls of adipose tissue hanging over the waistband 'Love handles' but a lovely Australian lady I know called them 'Muffins', and when you look at them and think of a muffin overhanging its paper case it's a perfect name.
Giok

I never gave a shit what people wore or wear. Not even folks who wear spandex.

Add to that big women with really tight shirts. And I can say this 'cause I'm not one of the smallest women on the planet.
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Why on earth do clothing manufacturers make hip hugger jeans in size 12 and 14 ? And above ? Several times in the last few weeks I've seen women who are such slaves to fashion that they thought it was acceptable to squeeze their size 14 frame into a size 10 hip hugger jean and crop topped t-shirt. Doesn't get me wrong. I love the hip hugger jeans - but they should only be worn by .05 percent of the female population. On them they look wonderful. On anyone else you just have to wonder what they were thinking. Do they not own mirrors ? The term "two ten pound hams fighting in a five pound sack" comes to mind.

Down here in Texas when one of these fashion casualties is spotted we're liable to say "Well bless her heart - she can't afford a mirror".

Men make their mistakes too. When ever I see an old bald guy with a comb-over - one inch of hair that has been combed to cover a vast expanse of bare skin on the top of his head - I want to walk up and whisper - "It isn't working".

Oh well - the air is getting a little thin up here on this soap box.
