Subject: RE: BS: Those wacky Canadiens From: Little Hawk Date: 25 Nov 05 - 12:48 PM Most interesting. Paul Hellyer is an unusually honest and courageous man, specially for a politician. His courage to speak out on this is admirable, but I doubt that it will have one iota of an effect on the behaviour of the USA in their efforts to militarize space. The USA seems to be incapable of living without and endless succession of enemies to obsess over and fight with. Having seen some ETV's (I would certainly assume that was what they were) in the late 60's, I don't find Hellyer's allegations all that surprising. What I do find surprising is that he is speaking about it publicly and putting himself on the line. |

Subject: RE: BS: Those wacky Canadiens From: Little Hawk Date: 25 Nov 05 - 01:09 PM McKenzie King? He was pretty weird. But then, half the people I've ever known were pretty weird once you got to know them well enough. Most people, actually, are a bit crazy. They're just fairly good at hiding it most of the time. |

Subject: RE: BS: Those wacky Canadiens From: Beer Date: 25 Nov 05 - 01:14 PM He maybe courageous in some things and this one I'll agree with. But ask the Navy, Army and Air force personnel of the 60's and they would have a very different opinion. The familiar word used today "downsizing, reorganizing, reconstructing and all those fancy adjectives that all come to the same thing. "Cuts" He called in "Unification". To me that is why today our unified forces are in such a poor state. This article is very interesting and coming from Mr. Hellyer is a bit of a surprise. |

Subject: RE: BS: Those wacky Canadiens From: Charmion Date: 25 Nov 05 - 03:33 PM No one has taken Paul Hellyer seriously since 1968, when he ran against Pierre Trudeau for the leadership of the Liberal Party and lost humiliatingly. Furious at being so thoroughly dumped, he resigned from the Liberals and formed his own party, Action Canada ( for which I signed up because his son, the cutest boy in my Latin class, was handing out application forms). I can't remember anything in particular about its platform except that it didn't include bilingualism or levitation. |

Subject: RE: BS: Those wacky Canadiens From: Peace Date: 26 Nov 05 - 03:12 PM Interesting, though. Rest of the world's trying to hussh it up and Canada's tryin' to get the news out. |
