Waving SRS through the door into the sparkling clean, newly renovated Tavern. I'll admit the interior is a bit old fashioned - but look at the TERRACE!!!!

That was so unclear you might think I was imbibing the stuff. I worked for the Forest Service in college. Other college students worked there. They were notoriously cheap when looking for a good drunk on the weekend, but even they were not interested in MD 20/20.

I raise your Mad Dog and see you with :

Pixie once brought home from Amsterdam a bottle of Grapefruit Vodka that was so noxious that, not only would her fellow students not drink it, folkies wouldn't touch it either.......not even at 3 in the morning, after 17 pints of Old and Nasty. We didn't know, prior to that, that there was a drink folkies wouldn't drink. I think Liz the Squeak now has it enshrined on her sideboard.

I remember some old liner notes on an LP describing some bar where Muddy Waters and Otis Spann were playing where "the Champale flowed like wine". Anyonre remember/survive Pink Champale?

Then, for a short while, there was "Hop 'n' Gator" a beer/Gatorade combo that must've been aimed at the weekend softball crowd...

Bardenheimer's Port. Bottled in St. Louis, an EXCELLENT toilet un-clogger.

The case of Ripple my brother threw into the Potomac -- probably responsible for the decline of the oyster beds and crabbing grounds.

Licorice-flavored vodka -- a failed attempt to make Pernod at home. The entire world's supply rest in the now-filled vault of an old outhouse. If you dug it up it would probably taste better.

So sad, that we all have stories of such sorry excuses for alcohol. This is the Mudcat Tavern, so we need to banish such thoughts! A cheap drunk doesn't have to be despicable!

I'll buy (on Bert's card, of course!) each of you a nice bottle of a French table wine that I enjoy, called Le Vieille Ferme from the Rhone Valley. "The Old Farm." Now how much better can it get than that? It is particularly good with delicacies like the lamb gyros I buy at the corner gas station/fast food establishment for $2.59 (they were $1.99 for ages, but went up last month finally. It's still a $5 sandwich at a $2.59 price). Lucky me that the corner gas station is run by a Lebanese guy and he buys those big lamb-on-a-spit things to roast for his sandwiches. :)

Pamper yourselves. Get out the pretty stemware, even if the bottle only cost about $7.

Barkeep, the nice glasses, please!

New Year? Do we have a new year? Why? What was wrong with the old one? I liked it.

Darn it! Seems like every time I get used to having a year around someone has to go and bring in a new one. What do they do with the old ones anyway? Is it like when you get a new engine put in your truck and they send the old one to the rebuilders? It makes sense. Heck, I only had a handful of bad days in 2005. Why not just keep the good days, replace the bad days with new ones and trot the whole thing back out somewhere down the road, good as new and a whole lot cheaper than a brand new year?

GOOD wine? Are you trying to kill me?

BW, there's a junkyard of old years, sort of like an elephant's graveyard. I saw it once. Had all the old years in it: 1067, 8,157 BCE, 1968 (a lousy year by most standards, including mine), 1307, 2000, stuff like that. I was gonna borrow a few parts off of 1966, but the watchman caught me and I had to leg it like a horse. I got outa there just before he fired off a load of rock salt from his blunderbuss.

Rapaire, you can fool yourself with this wine--a couple of years ago they phased out corks and switched to screw caps. Pretend it's not a blend of Grenache 50%, Syrah 20%, Carignan 15% Cinsault 15%. Pretend it's fortified Welch's grape juice.

If you visit that junkyard again I'd like a nice helping of summer 1975. No, wait. It took too long to get over that summer. Maybe a nice mellow summer of 1994.

The junkyard of old years...given the history and condition of this tavern - should be outside one or the other of the doors - or possibly a window.

Well, there's a three-headed dog there that's meaner than a junkyard dog. And that watchman isn't anyone to fool around with either. If I manage to find my way back (I was sorta in my cups at the time) I'll see what I can do, but you'd better be REALLY certain of what you want.

Oh good, a tavern. Just what I need. Convivial spirits of all kinds.

I've been tied up with personal shit for awhile ans popped in to see what's what. Looks like I have to go and reset my cookie.

ONE things hasn't changed, unfortunately. (U know what.)

the only thing I want from old years is my figure back and I know it isn't gonna happen.

If I haul out my contra dance band book, is anybody game to jam on some jigs and reels? The rest of you are welcome to dance.

MAG - I know the feeling. I keep trying to lose weight, but it keeps finding me again.

I have an hourglass figure - it's just that the sand has run down to the bottom.....

Pull up a big comfy chair and join me in this bottle of rum...

Bottle of rum
Fruit of the bum...

Nah. Doesn't work at all. Digusting, in fact. Stick with Paxton's original.

Sage walks in with a bag of Chinese fortune cookies and leaves a few for each person at their seat.

The trick my kids taught me with these cookies is to read the prophecy out loud--then add the two words "in bed." Amazing how it changes the meaning of these things.

I'll take you up on that bottle, Liz.

Actually I suppose with this being a virtual tavern and all, I can invent some knees to get up and dance on. THAT will burn off the rum and the bum.

It's a little early in the year for the bunny hop and I don't know the macarena. I can't dance and play a reel at the same time.

Tomorrow night I am going to a potluck party and super jam. I can't wait. Take the wine or the ruby port??

I am going to nestle up by the fire with a cool mug of Guinness and strum chords on this here Dreadnought. It has been a ...shall we say 'interesting' year?

May your next round around the sun be kinder and gentler and more successful for you than the last.

How on earth can you strum chords on a hundred year old Battleship?

But if you're going to strum something, make it Les Sullivan's song about Jutland. I had family members on all three of the ships he named in that song.

HEY! Will someone hold the door open and help me with a few of these things? Thank goodness the Tavern is still open.
Here is a robotic Santa that gongs, sings and runs around at will. And a blow up moose. And an annoying penguin that dances and raps. And here's 12 little bottles that look like champagne but are actually a lethal malt beverage, some of them raspberry flavored, guaranteed to provide a two day headache and violent projectile vomiting.

I will be back with more...and DON'T LOCK THE DOOR!

I give a party and erstwhile friends bring me crap like this...grumble grumble grumble

Quick, pour that raspberry stuff out on the driveway. It can kill the grass in the cracks.

Sinsull, any time you're ready to bring more of that stuff we can pour it on the Tavern Compost Pile if we can't pour it in 'Catter's themselves. It'll produce a lot of biological activity (and we'll have tipsy bacteria).

Sage tiptoes out the door, closing it softly behind her to avoid waking the 'Catters sprawled on all of the soft, comfy tavern furniture, gently sleeping off the odd array of booze that has passed their way this week. Nurse Ratched can be heard in the distance (through the closet door) clearing up in the Recovery Ward.

The sqirrel packs away his nuts for the rest of the winter, and prepares to tow the portable loos back ready for the camping season in somewhat warmer climes. Perhaps his fur will grow back again, if not, it's going to be cold until April. Maybe that raspberry stuff might help. Here goes nuthin'. Gurgleeeeeeeeeee ................

every time I've asked on of the floozies ladies to bring me a drink it's arrived half-empty! (Or even empty!) Except of course the time I said "Fetch" (completly by mistake) and had to exit rather rapidly before the chain saw came up to speed.

But if you want a floozy-fetched drink - feel free to try.

I tried sniffing glue once. Plugged up my sinuses so bad I had to go to the doctor, who explained the difference between sniffing the fumes and sniffing the glue. Fortunately, it wasn't epoxy or superglue I sniffed.

New Year's is over! All you people pick up your belongings and go home! There is serious business to be discussed on this forum and you're taking up band width.

By the way, as was done last year, Martin Gibson is selling half price Christmas doodads outside the south door. Support the cause. Go out the north door.

Liz, if you cannot detach yourself from that tap in a timely manner, take it with you. We'll expect a replacement next year. And for those of you who missed the announcement, I have several tiny champagne like bottles of sickenly sweet malt beverages (some raspberry flavored). Take them on your way out of they go into next year's JELL-O pit.

Happy New Year, all!!!!!

Now go away.

Christmas isn't over until a) Candlemas (Feb 2nd), b) all the chocolates have been eaten (still got 4 bars and 3 half tins of various sorts left) and c) all the pine needles have been vacuumed up. As I'm still finding needles from a tree we had 3 years ago, it's always Christmas somewhere in my house!!

You get your hands OFF THAT TAP Woman... you'll get yours, don't you worry... revenge is a dish best served pink.

And just why is MG selling his doodads??
