Subject: RE: BS: Tech, Anybody Use Printmaster Silver 8? From: JohnInKansas Date: 02 Jan 06 - 11:01 PM The only thing I found with Google was: 1. a bunch of people trying to sell it really cheap, mostly on eBay. 2. several claims that it's suitable for 8 year olds. 3. multiple "help thread" with complaints about bundled spyware. I still don't know what it is, so I guess I'm not a lot dumber that Stilly(?). Re the spyware complaints - Broderbrund(?) (apparently the maker) has been accused of including a "spyware" content. Rumors are that they've quite doing it, but nobody knows when. Consensus of "not very informed" opinion is that it's not malicious, just annoying. It appears mostly to allow them to send you lots of advertising about updates(?) But no clue as to what it's for. John |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech, Anybody Use Printmaster Silver 8? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Jan 06 - 09:16 AM Villan, I didn't read the file deeply, just posted it to verify the existence of this Printmaster Silver entity. It's a habit, when I run into a poorly set up site, to not waste my time slogging through it. The link was placed for someone with more patience (you!) to visit if you wished. I'm glad it helped. First glance at that page, though, tells you nothing unless you follow more links. In this day and age, the page has to be designed very clearly if the developer wants to keep readers there more than about 5 seconds. It's a fact of Internet life. I've used Broderbund software before. They're owned by Mattel, and tend toward the home user. The program I picked up was very helpful when remodeling my house. It is a bundled set of design and landscaping software called 3D Architect. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech, Anybody Use Printmaster Silver 8? From: Sorcha Date: 03 Jan 06 - 10:27 AM Only thing I use it for is graphics......and now, when I print mailing labels (with a pic on), some of them come out 'garbled'.....some are fine but others on the same sheet are not. And, the mistakes are not all the same. One will have the street addy on the same line as the name, another will have the post code below the label entirely, etc. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech, Anybody Use Printmaster Silver 8? From: Rasener Date: 03 Jan 06 - 11:03 AM If you exclude the picture, does it work alright then? Is this the first time you have tried an address with a picture? Is it the first time you have used that particular type of label? Is it a standard Avery label? If so, what is the Avery label code and how many labels should be printed on each A4 page? What Printer are you using? If you can answer the above questions, it may help to narrow down what the problem is. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech, Anybody Use Printmaster Silver 8? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Jan 06 - 11:39 AM Good questions. And add this: have you done the usual updates of virus programs, scanned for viruses and malware, and in general checked out the computer to be sure it isn't a systemic problem? SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech, Anybody Use Printmaster Silver 8? From: Sorcha Date: 03 Jan 06 - 12:00 PM No, been printing this label with same pic for months. Prob just showed up a couple mos ago. Some labels on the page are ok, but 3 or 4 are messed up. Yes, Avery template 8160 w/30 labels per page. Same ones I've always used. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech, Anybody Use Printmaster Silver 8? From: Rasener Date: 03 Jan 06 - 12:53 PM The following would be my first rsponse to your answers. The document is corrupt, or even the template that comes with the software. Maybe the first thing to do, is create a brand new document for printing and do not include any copying etc from the current document, incase parts of it are corrupt. Test that and see if it is OK. If that doesn't work then It may well be a good idea as SRS says to un-install and re-install the software Having done that, re-create the document from fresh and see if that works OK - do not copy anything from the old document. Hope that helps Cheers Les |

From: open mike Date: 03 Jan 06 - 02:21 PM i use printmaster gold.. probably comparable... how does it work when you start from scratch? you can often export the saved item as jpeg and try it from another program too. Avery or another text file type thingy..good luck. Laurel |

Subject: RE: BS: Tech, Anybody Use Printmaster Silver 8? From: Rasener Date: 03 Jan 06 - 02:57 PM Sorcha Laurel is the person to link up with, becuase it doesn't really matter which version it is, the engine is mainly the same. So hopefully you two can sort something out. If nothing comes of that, go back to my suggestions. Whatever good luck and let us know how you get on, becuase it is nice to find out what happened good or bad :-) Cheers Les |
