Paul, don't tell too many people that Vera Reitzer was a fascist, or you'll have Martin Gibson on your case. Reitzer was a decent tattoo-bearing survivor of the Holocaust. She happened to think that blacks (and commies) were scum, but she's a Jew, so that's all right.

When? When every parent & family member teaches every child on the planet to respect every other person on the planet, and treat them all as a member of their family. It may take awhile.

I have PBS on in the a.m.'s for my toddler niece, & the other day, I saw the Secretary General of the United Nations with some of the little critters helping them to understand cooperation. There is also an ad where the members of the UN are arguing, and a little kid tells them, "The more we get together, the happier we'll be." Only then do they get the message. PBS is trying to teach most kids what they are NOT getting at home.

The kids are often more likely to pick up various prejudices at home than tolerance and respect.

I once had to threaten my own father with being banned from seeing my kids, when my son repeated grandad's opinions of a certain racial grouping.

Wolfgang, you've taken that sentence of mine out of the context into which I had put it. Just to be clear, I was stating not my own attitude but the attitude of those (and Martin is not a lone voice in this respect) who believe the Holocaust gives Jews carte blanche for behaviour that from anyone else would be beneath contempt.

   We might understand better if we were really prepared to look into our own selves, our own fear, anger, revengefulness, insecurity dressed as power etc. etc. etc.

   We might better deal with the world if we really understood how it functions, how it works. In fact if we made being well informed a priority. (I hope I'm hearing myself).

   Until we are all prepared to do that then we (rather then "THEY") will continue to believe fervently that violence(in all its forms all the way down to insult), force and so on are any kind of answer.

How is that "withdrawing from the West Bank"?

Wolfgang: what's your point? Are you saying we shouldn't criticise people for supporting apartheid, if they happen to belong to some other persecuted minority?
