Subject: BS: Folding caravan for sale (UK) From: Essex Girl Date: 12 May 06 - 09:14 AM As festival time is now upon us is there anyone who would be interested in a folding caravan? My cousins cannot drive anymore and would like to find a buyer. They are asking £500.00 for it but would be prepared to negotiate. It is stored on a farm near Broadstairs. If anybody is interested I will get more details. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folding caravan for sale (UK) From: MBSLynne Date: 12 May 06 - 05:23 PM Hehe! Sorry Linda, I HAD to read this thread because the title gave me an instant 'mind picture' of someone stepping out of his caravan with a yawn and a stretch, then turning round, folding it up, slipping it in his pocket and walking away! Ok, so I have an odd mind!! Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Folding caravan for sale (UK) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 13 May 06 - 01:09 AM BTW, there is a new Aussie 'A' type fold down, spring up one recently designed here. From memory, it is all hard sides, and very light - can even come with solar panels etc built in... Hope you can find a new home for yours EG, old vans should be treated like old folkies... with respect. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folding caravan for sale (UK) From: Bob Bolton Date: 14 May 06 - 01:53 AM G'day 'Giok', Patricia and I went into Australia's "Red Heart" (Uluru [Ayers Rock] / Kata Tjuta [The Olgas] / Alice Springs / &c) last September ... luxuriating in fancy resorts ... except for motels en route - and three nights in our own tent at Wilpena Pound. We saw a couple of those Kimberley Kampers in different camps ... and were duly impressed. Unfortunately, live live only 6 km out of Sydney (an inner suburb - and on old one from before the motorcar era) and have enough trouble parking our Subaru ... definitely no space to store a trailer-based vehicle just for the occasional holiday. I must find out if anyone would hire them out for short (3 to 4-week holiday periods? Regards, Bob |

Subject: RE: BS: Folding caravan for sale (UK) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 14 May 06 - 08:56 AM There are several companies in Oz who hire out 'campervans' - i.e. all in one drive yourself thingies, Brits is one I know of, but just consult the Yellow Pages, you may find some that do 'trailer campers' too. That may be helpful for OS Visitors too... |

Subject: RE: BS: Folding caravan for sale (UK) From: Essex Girl Date: 17 May 06 - 10:23 AM The caravan has hard sides not canvas ones, much better to pack up when it's wet.It has a double bed and a single one, hob, grill, fridge and awning. There is also a toilet tent and portapotty to go with it. Dead Horse - Tone def Leopard have shown an interest. I'll let you know the outcome. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folding caravan for sale (UK) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 17 May 06 - 07:58 PM I'm making long term vague plans to get mobile for festivals, etc. I just picked up a copy of issue 71 of the Aussie monthly periodical "Campervan and Motorhome Trader" AUD$5 (there are many other local similar publications, including for caravans) this lists not only private sellers, but all the big dealers. There are even ones who will sell you one and will buy them back - cheaper than long term hire. Even places that sell coaster and other buses for conversions, as well as some of the conversion places. I suspect other countries have similar publications. BTW, I'm looking for something that has 1) 3 way fridge - gas is pretty well essential, you are supposed to not use it while actually mobile, but many places I would be going probably do not have 240v plugin. 12V is all very nice, but then you need gennies, solar cells, etc - more weight, lower fuel consumption, and more upfront cost, although the 3 way fridge is more expensive initially, and the van must be set up with proper ventilation and gas installation venting, etc. 2) NO shower/toilet. More expense, wasted space. Any permanent site will have them. If you are driving, you are supposed to stop every 2 hours for a rest - stop at a 'petrol station' - they have toilets, food etc. Some places on the main highways are 'truckie stops' - they have showers too. If you need to stay overnight somewhere, camping sites exist. 3) Not a huge bus probably in the 20-26 ft range - one CAN tow a trailer if you need more junk, and it's easier if you only need a car licence. 4) Ok a microwave is fine - who needs TVs etc, radio is good for the trips, and a 2-3 burner stove - why need a gas oven? If 240V is available, there are lots of small appliances nowadays. I grew up as a kid with tent camping, and just what you could carry - learnt to cook over real fires too. 5) Sleeps 2-3 max 4 (what I want/need) 6) Lots of storage space - with no shower/toilet etc, you SHOULD have more usable room for instruments, etc. Any further suggestions? (polite!) Robin |

Subject: RE: BS: Folding caravan for sale (UK) From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 May 06 - 06:17 PM If you are festivalling, do NOT go campervan, go cheap old (dry) caravan. You WILL want to drive off site to get more beer/cigarettes/gas/strings/condoms/etc when you run out and it is a royal pain to have to de-pitch to go and re-pitch when you get back. Driving a campervan all year will cost you an arm and a leg. Campervans are no quicker nor more stable than a decent sizeable car/small van combo. Get a Volvo to tow with. Get the biggest wingmirrors you can. Get a small van and strip out the top cupboards and put shelves a bit like bunk beds over the beds to put the guitars etc on when you arrive. Shower and portapotti essential - many minifestivals have no useable showers, and it is a PIA to have to put on your trousers every time you want a night time piddle after a day drinking beer. Stove good - put vegetables meat and spices (and water and thickeners and spices) in crockpot in oven at 11 am - go to session - return at 6, food ready, eat with bread, and go out for the evening session. |
