Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday Art Thieme From: catspaw49 Date: 09 Jul 06 - 07:55 PM I was lurking back in '98 and it was this post by Art that made me sign up right then and there........and the rest is history. And we all know what a pain in the ass history can be. Art too for that matter.......nothing worse than Art History.....I mean, ta' hell with Rembrandt!!! Anyway, here is the post. Subject: RE: History Needed -- Song From: Art Thieme - PM Date: 21 Oct 98 - 05:34 PM On the Mississippi River a group of barges filled with pigeons went aground and the entire tow was stuck fast blocking the river traffic. The Capt. was adept with a bullwhip and he'd crack his whip and get the birds to flying. That lightened the load and they easily backed off the sandbar. Of course, that was a pigeon-tow. Barges filled withy Tic-Tac candy would be a tic-tac-tow. Hammers would be a hammer-tow, but they'd need to be removed surgically! (rim shot!) ********************************************************************** ...geeziz..........Little did I know that Art would repeat it 27 times............***sigh***.............. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANYHOW!!!ya' ol' fartSpaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday Art Thieme From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 09 Jul 06 - 09:18 PM Hey, all you fine folks, thanks so very much! I've not been on line today (until now) and I just located the thread--thanks to Jerry calling to tell me it was here. This is the one birthday that feels like a milestone of some kind----. I never did think, when young and saddled with the Thieme genes, that I'd ever get this far. And thanks for the comments on the recent CD of mine. It's nice to get some feedback on it. I do suspect it will be my last offering. ONE MORE TIME: it can be had from www.folklegacy.com and my others for Sandy are there too. Always there's www.waterbug.com for the CD "The Older I Get, The Better I Was". By the way, this b-day is number sixty-five. Onward and upward, Art |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday Art Thieme From: Micca Date: 10 Jul 06 - 04:23 AM In his younger days Art bought a small cabin in the Appalachians to spend some "chill out" time in the summers when not on tour. It was near a small village that had a coupla hundred inhabitants where village life revolved around the Store. The cabin was a few hundred yards from the road along a very rough track. The Postal Service insisted that the mail box had a house name on it as there were no house numbers on that road, well none that would have made sense anyway. Being his whimsical self, Art called his Cabin what it was, a Summer Place . One year he was in the store and a coupla locals he hadn't seen before came in and were looking at him a bit funny, as rural folks usually look at strangers, after he left they asked the storekeeper "who was that guy?" and the storekeepers reply was " That was Art Thieme from a Summer Place" |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday Art Thieme From: katlaughing Date: 10 Jul 06 - 11:35 PM I think Micca meant it as a mondegreen(sp), Art, as in "Our Theme" (from the movie) "Summer Place." Am I right, Micca? |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday Art Thieme From: Micca Date: 11 Jul 06 - 03:09 AM Yes, Kat, Spot on, It was a (laboured) attempt at a n elaborate pun, especially for the Ace Punster, I was sure he would remember the piece it was in the hit parade in the early 60s? |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday Art Thieme From: John MacKenzie Date: 11 Jul 06 - 01:34 PM Art I'm way late, I kept meaning to send my best wishes and it just sorta didn't happen, I guess procrastination came in and stole my time. Hope you had a great day, and we look forward to doing it all again next year. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday Art Thieme From: katlaughing Date: 11 Jul 06 - 01:45 PM There's a summer place... 1959. I was all of six years old, but I sure remember the song, esp. its theme! Love ya! *bg* |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday Art Thieme From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 11 Jul 06 - 07:32 PM Well, that's not the first old film I never heard of, but Micca, if I had heard of it, I do hope I might've gotten the punny joke. All's well that ends well... Kat, I graduated high school in 1959. I'd just heard Bob Gibson and Lord Buckley and Pete Seeger and the New Lost City Ramblers and Odetta and Joan Baez for the first time. And I'd just learned how truly transporting and time-machine-like the old trad story ballads could be. I was eighteen---and in love. It was a very good year!--- A whole lot like this 65th year will be, I'm certain;---filled with Mudcatters and their music, and all the sounds I've stored in my mind since those other times. Thanks to all you cyberfolk here who keep my mind nimble and participating in our music world. You are truly appreciated. Sincerely, Art |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday Art Thieme From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Date: 11 Jul 06 - 09:37 PM Art- has anyone in this thread (I'm in a hurry) sent this: Why was he born so beautiful? Why was he born at all? He's no bloody use to anyone, he's no bloody use at all! (Our Brit Mudcatters will know that one- it's set to a beautiful hymn tune, perfect with full harmonies). OR: Happy birthday to you- you belong in a zoo, You look like a monkey- and you act line one, too! (And kids everywhere will know that one..there must be many of these). Hope your birthday was your best yet, dear Art- and that's a sincere one, with a hug thrown in. Love to you and all those you love, Jean |
