Doing some research into the history of this
classic Cajun waltz for a page on our site @

http://snipurl.com/jolie_blonde

I found the following, on the renowned
Cajun artist George Rodrigue's website:

> "A prisoner in Port Arthur wrote a song based
> on the legend "Jolie Blonde" in the 1920s.
> It tells the story of a pretty blonde woman
> who left her Cajun lover for someone else."

Does anyone here know any more about
this Cajun legend - or have any additional
information about the song's authorship/
background that I can add to the above page.

best to all

Amedee Breaux first recorded "Ma Blonde Est Partie (Jolie Blonde) in 1929. Some say his sister Cleoma wrote it.

What evidence is cited that it did not originate with the Breaux's? Did this artist invent the story of 'a prisoner ...'?

The original is included in "Cajun Early Recordings," 4 CD set, JSP Records, B, Track 12 . The later version "Jolie Blonde" by the Hackberry Ramblers (1936) is in disc C, track 5.

I thought all cajun waltz lyrics were about faithless women leaving their poor blameless husbands/boyfriends. :-)
(and all the two-steps are about going to the dance and getting drunk)

I once heard a Cajun version of "Achy-Breaky Heart". Vast improvement--good dance beat and I couldn't understand a word of it.

I like the song but don't understand a word of it.
I have been looking for the words. I would like it in both English and French

Guest 'Songwriter etc.'

La seule personne ici qui prétend être l'auteur-compositeur, c'est vous, idiot.
