Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Barry Finn Date: 03 May 07 - 12:14 AM "$5 For Whining In Here" or whatever the name of the C&W song you sing where the bartender chages patrons $5 for whining/complaining in C&W style in his bar. But anything you pick will sir-face. Good Luck Barry |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: GUEST,Steve Date: 02 May 07 - 08:40 AM I have been away for some time Kendall. And I am truly sorry about the loss of your voice. I enjoyed your last CD immensely and would like to have a copy of this one - when it gets done. Will it be available through your website? Be well and God Bless Steve |

Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Deckman Date: 01 May 07 - 06:40 PM Jacqui ... Your comment about finding the right techinician who doesn't "want to take over the whole project" is right on. It's VERY IMPORTANT to let the artist do his "thing", with the skills of the recording engineer enhancing everything. Bob |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Jim Lad Date: 01 May 07 - 06:40 PM I have a Lingerie song to go with your naked one. No charge! |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Midchuck Date: 01 May 07 - 06:28 PM Kendall, you have created dissension in our happy home. By reminding me of "Over the Hill to the Poorhouse." I was happily wandering about the house, singing "I'm OOOOld and HALPless and Feebul, and the Days of my Youth have gone by...," and Kris says, "Oh, shut up. I agree with Jacqui, that's a terrible song!" Poor deranged woman. Can she be helped? P. |

Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: MMario Date: 30 Apr 07 - 10:15 AM it is quite possible that jump can be edited out or reduced - with todays technology. and yes, it would be. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Midchuck Date: 30 Apr 07 - 10:15 AM If you have a half-decent cut of "Over the Hill to the Poorhouse," and Jacqui keeps you from using it, I'll be very peeved with her. That's one of my favorite songs to sing to my children. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: jacqui.c Date: 30 Apr 07 - 10:11 AM Bob - I like murder ballads! I just find that the content of a lot of Bluegrass gets too maudlin for my taste. Too many little log cabins in the woods and brown eyed darlin's for my liking. Kendall's going to hate me for telling this, but we also have a single disc that he recorded for his mother, maybe 50 years or more ago. Unfortunately, although the voice is sublime, there is a jump on the recording and, as a result, Kendall doesn't want to put the track on the CD. I reckon that, jump or no, it would be of interest to those who want a copy of the CD. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Deckman Date: 30 Apr 07 - 08:22 AM Kendall ... TOO FUNNY! When the hell are you and I 'gonna get together. I swear ... we could probably exchange our cheat sheets and sing each other's sets! Yes, I know all about the problems in recording, be it a studio or a live performance. In recording material for my first CD, I was dissapointed to find (again) that as I got more tired, I tended to sing flat. A "live" recording of my last house concert was made, but just as you said, between audience noise and various uncontrollable events, most songs are not of the quality needed. Some of the songs that we share: "Minstrel Show", Last Letter Home", Jesse James", and of course ANYTHING by Bruce Phillips! As for Jacqui's dislike of a certain subject matter, you might tell her that she's lucky you don't specilize in MURDER BALLADS! CHEERS, and I'm looking forward to your new CD. Bob |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: kendall Date: 30 Apr 07 - 07:50 AM We are still digging, problem is, many of the cuts are just too bad to use. I did $5.00 fine at the Cecil Sharp Folk club in London, but the audience was so noisy, singing off key, etc They were having a hell of a good time, but I hesitate to put it out. Here's what I have so far: Rambles of Spring. (Tommy Makem) The Minstrel Show ( Bob Coltman) Lonesome Robin (Bob Coltman) Who's Gonna Buy You Ribbons (Paul Clayton) Rye Whiskey Joe (Bill Stains) Old Buddy Goodnight (Utah Phillips) Faded Roses of December (Utah Phillips) Last Letter Home (McDade/Brown)
I remember Loving You (Utah Phillips) |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Liz the Squeak Date: 17 Sep 06 - 03:14 AM Kendall in the field doesn't look good naked.... conjures up a good photo... if you have any fields of waist high grass you could be pictured in..... I'd be happy to help pick the ticks off after. Karen/Kendall, it's amazing what a good sound techie can do with an old recording these days. LTS |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: kendall Date: 16 Sep 06 - 12:55 PM Karen, none of them were professionally recorded. It's a collection of field recordings with no rehersal and no re cuts. I thought I'd call it "Warts and All" but the "war department" nixed that idea. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Liz the Squeak Date: 16 Sep 06 - 11:22 AM Kendall... about this 'don't look good naked anymore' thing.... how about we ask Jacqui to let you out of the basement long enough for a private veiwing by the Mudcat "Ladies" who will then give you an unbiased and independent opinion. Of course... there may have to be several viewings... seasonal changes, different lighting effects... I have my own magnifying glass for a close up scrutiny and I'm sure I could find another pair of binoculars... LTS |

Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: katlaughing Date: 15 Sep 06 - 11:26 AM I don't think that's a problem, at all, Kendall. Just following in the footsteps of other greats, like *fine* Art and his The Older I Get the Better I Was! It's a Tradition!;-) |

Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: karen k Date: 15 Sep 06 - 10:10 AM Kendall, I'd like to hear the whaling song you wrote, too. Also, I think I have some tapes of you from the old Folk Legacy Festivals and probably other places. Should I dig them out and see if there is anything worth using or are you using all professionally recorded stuff? See you in a couple of weeks in Maine. karen |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: SINSULL Date: 15 Sep 06 - 09:56 AM You know, Kendall, the Getaway is the perfect place to get some first-hand suggestions from people you respect. Maybe not a workshop but some playing around on the side? Just a thought. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: SINSULL Date: 15 Sep 06 - 09:54 AM Can Jacqui and I take the picture for the cover - the wrinkled ass one? Come on! I have so little. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: kendall Date: 15 Sep 06 - 07:40 AM My problem is, it must be stuff that I have already recorded before I lost my voice. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: KT Date: 15 Sep 06 - 03:44 AM My only suggestion~put LOTS of 'em on there! I'll take four! |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Liz the Squeak Date: 15 Sep 06 - 12:43 AM Oh Kendall... how can you not put at least one story in... it's what we know you for!!! (It also makes it extremely hazardous to drive whilst listening to, for fear of accidents both vehicular and incontinentially)... I'm not familiar enough with any of your other recordings to suggest something, but I loved your version of 'Rolling home to wherever it was' (senior moment there, the tape is in the car and I'm in my jammies, it being 5.44am now and I've been awake since 4 with a toothache. It may be mild and autumnal but I still ain't going). LTS |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 15 Sep 06 - 12:29 AM Kendall, my suggestions: $5 Fine For Whalin'. And Here's To You, Mrs Ravoon. Lorena, Lorena (Where You Been So Long?) I Don't Look Naked Anymore. Miss Privy's Effer. She Drinks Ice Cream Carbs. The Menstrual Show. Seamus |

Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: kendall Date: 14 Sep 06 - 09:39 PM Barry, the one I have in mind is clean. Jeri has it, and Mary S has it.It's about whaling. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: GUEST Date: 14 Sep 06 - 08:19 PM Okay I hate to sound redondant but this just made my day. Definately $5 Fine and I don't look good naked. And Don't you dare leave out the funny stuff. Unless you're going to do two, one funny and one serious... but one all mixed up will do fine. Barry I've got no question Mary and Jacqui can hold their own on any car trip... no matter how you guys stack the deck, of course maybe Kendall just doesn't want to visit my horde after all the tales "Aunt" Mary has told ...hmmmmm.... Kendall I think you should come to Getaway and we can have a help Kendall pick the best cuts workshop. Okay it's just a ploy to get a sneak preview of the CD --- but it would be great Kathy |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Barry Finn Date: 14 Sep 06 - 07:44 PM Hi Kendall, thanks. I'm afraid to ask, "Barry, I'll send you one of mine", do I dare ask, "mine", "mine what"? (Hehe) I'd love to hear anything you've written but not in the company of my kids, there ears aren't virgin but they think mine are. Hopefully I'll see you & Jacqui soon, somewhere. I'll see Jacqui soon enough & we can talk about you behind your back. I must be the man needed body that's taking your place on the ride to the Getaway. What, they don't want the 2 of us riding in the same van together? Is that Mary's doing? They may pee their pants laughing so you get left out? Oh, I know, they don't think you'll make it through the flood on the way back. OK, I'll stop, bye for the moment & good luck. Barry |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: kendall Date: 14 Sep 06 - 07:17 PM Well, this might be worth doing after all. Barry, I do write some, but I seldom admit it. Just remember folks, these are all field recordings and you can hear the parts where the cancer is starting to take my voice. Liz, I don't plan to put any stories on this one, but many of them will be in the new book.(If I can get off my wrinkled old arse and finish it.) Barry, I'll send you one of mine. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Big Mick Date: 14 Sep 06 - 07:10 PM Captain .... the suggestion of a title track of Just Don't Look Good Naked Anymore is pureed, friggin' brilliant. I will be ordering several for use as gifts. Mick |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: bfdk Date: 14 Sep 06 - 06:44 PM No suggestions, I leave that in your capable Capt'n's hands, this is just to wish you the best of luck with your new project. I, too, look forward to hearing the result ;-)) Best wishes, Bente |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Barry Finn Date: 14 Sep 06 - 06:13 PM I'm with Mary & Jeri on these: "$5 Fine For Whining" "I Don't Look Good Naked Anymore" WITHOUT PICTURES "She Thinks I Steal Cars" That's enough to warrant buying your CD, the rest would be the gravy on my mashed potatoes. When you gonna start writting some of your own? Hell, all you gotta do is every time you tell a story have Jacqui write it down, then all you gotta do is figure out a tune for it, hell steal a couple of Utah's tunes, that should piss 'em off. Good luck with this project. If you want any help, I'm available to steer you in the wrong direction. Barry |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: katlaughing Date: 14 Sep 06 - 05:57 PM Another vote for $5 fine & all of the above, plus this is a Pre-Order!! |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: SINSULL Date: 14 Sep 06 - 05:54 PM How about Too Many Parties And Too Many Pals? heh heh |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: SINSULL Date: 14 Sep 06 - 05:53 PM The Privy, Mrs. Ravoon and Lorena are on Kendall's previous CDs. Buy now!!!! $5 Fine For Whining. And I agree with Jeri - "I Don't Look Good Naked Anymore" with picture. We can finally shut Big Mick up re: the state of your ass. And She Thinks I Steal Cars. Love you, Captain. SINS |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Liz the Squeak Date: 14 Sep 06 - 04:57 PM Miss Effie's Privy... please?!!! Nearly made me drive off the motorway laughing.... and I wasn't driving the car! LTS |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Sep 06 - 04:17 PM Suggestions for a new CD? Hell yes Man.....DON'T DO IT! I beseech you, please don't inflict this planet with yet another CD, especially one from Maine. Contrary to what others are telling you, no one can understand a word of it unless they're either comatose or an Albanian pants presser. Please, please, whatever you do, not another damn CD...... If you need money, just ask or sell enema kits on e-Bay or something......Just no more CD's!!! To quote Roberto Duran, "No Mas....No mas..." Spaw (but if you do one, reserve me a copy) |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: freda underhill Date: 14 Sep 06 - 02:46 PM whatever you put on it, it'll go like hotcakes! |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: kendall Date: 14 Sep 06 - 01:03 PM I do have a recording of Don't look good naked, a $5.00 fine for whining and She Thinks I steal cars. A parody on She thinks I still care. At first I wanted to make it a CD of all serious stuff, but, hell, that aint me! I don't know if I ever recorded Patrick Spencer or not, but I hope I did. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Rapparee Date: 14 Sep 06 - 11:01 AM This is, officially, my order for one of the CDs. (This makes me the first to order!) |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Dan Schatz Date: 14 Sep 06 - 10:33 AM Oh yes. Yes, yes. Please yes on all of the songs you mentioned. And come to the Getaway to take advance orders. I can't wait. Dan Schatz |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Jeri Date: 14 Sep 06 - 10:17 AM My answer to the actual question is "yes". My smart-ass comment is that maybe you could CALL the CD "I Don't Look Good Naked Anymore". The cover might be interesting. Or not. My only advice is to try to do songs not recorded elsewhere, unless the newer recording is significantly better or different. Do you have the motorhome song/story recorded? |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: GUEST,DonMeixner Date: 14 Sep 06 - 09:12 AM Hi Kendall, Can't think of anything I like better than these you've mentioned. Problem is I like the rest just as well. You just put on your favorites and that will be fine enough for me. Don |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Becca72 Date: 14 Sep 06 - 09:11 AM "Jesse James" *BG* |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Rapparee Date: 14 Sep 06 - 08:54 AM Kendall, you can make the CD really different by making it square instead of round.... Is this going to be a "Best of" type of thing? The list looks pretty good to me. |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Amos Date: 14 Sep 06 - 08:46 AM And consider adding Lorena to the list. As for how you look naked, I am sure it is none of my business, thank Gawd. A |
Subject: RE: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: Midchuck Date: 14 Sep 06 - 08:30 AM You should have put that last title in quotes. My first reaction was, "I'm sure you don't, but what's the relevance of that?" Peter. PS: I'd vote for Mrs. Ravoon. I know it's been overdone, but in Maine-ese it's something special. And I know I've heard you do Patrick Spencer. Did you ever record it? Peter |
Subject: Suggestions wanted for Kendall's new CD From: kendall Date: 14 Sep 06 - 08:16 AM As most of you know, I lost my voice completely back in April. Since then, Jacqui and I have been digging up old recordings that I did just before my voice went south. I know that some of you have my CD's and vinals, and this is aimed mostly at you. If you have any favorites that I know, please tell me. Some of the ones I want to use, The Minstrel Show. (Bob Coltman) The Honor of your company (Tom Paxton) Lonesome Robin (Bob Coltman) Who's gonna buy you ribbons (Paul Clayton) Rye Whiskey Joe (Bill Staines) Old Buddy Goodnight (Utah Phillips) Faded Roses of December (Utah Phillips) Susan's Floor (Shel Silverstien) Last Letter Home I remember loving you (Utah Phillips) I Can't help but wonder where I'm bound (Tom Paxton) Rambles of Spring (Tommy Makem) And, possibly I don't look good naked anymore. |
