ok mate am on south bank dont know Hull at all.
Sounds like something worth trying out so can you give directions suitable for not very bright Cod heads?
Hope we can make it and if you are packed out listen if quieter have a play.
However that goes best of luck with new music night.

Into Hull on A63, left turn off the main road immediately after the 40 limit sign, straight over the roundabout heading for the hospital. At the lights go straight across and keep going to the end where you need to be in the middle lane to turn left and then right at the lights. Keep straight on to the mini roundabout and turn left. Follow the road on and round the corner, Sleepers is immediately after the railway bridge. You'll have to road park.

BTW the pub over the road 'The Nagshead' has 'Punch the Horse' appearing on Saturday 28th October.

All the best

oggie

Confusing?? I live round the corner and these instructions will get you there, honest! They've got countless friends here from all over the country.

However the post code is HU5 3BG so you can always put that into multimap or whatever you use.

All the best

If you want us to moan SJ..........
If it would make you feel more at home, FOr me I like to hear the sounds of fighting in the the main room as the Domino season gets under way.
I hope it isnt one of those posh venues were they turn the juke box down while we are playing.

The review gives no indication of it being an 'open mic' evening.

ok here we go again,
It says here New acoustic night.
This side if the river we would asume this to mean no PA .
So is it an unplugged or a plugged in evening.
Also got impression was first event.
So what is the score please.

The evening john9 is talking about may well be organised differently to the one reviewed. I honestly dont know. Just thought it would give an indication of the athmosphere in the place etc for those that dont know it. From the outside it looks like one of those "street cafe" type bars that have recently sprung up in the Princes/Newland Ave area. Looks to be popular with the student types.

Cheers mate I looked at revue and it says "because of acoustic nature of evening by pictures of yoofs singing into mikes".
Looks a nice place though.

Just spoken to john9, most of the info comes from a fly-er he was given by the organiser who said tonight was the first night, so maybe it is his first night as organiser. Honestly cant tell you any more than that. I wouldn't travel all the way from Grimsby Tim, if you are going to be disappointed if it turns out to be plugged in and not unplugged. At least not until we have a report from tonight. However if you don't mind and want to come anyway I am sure you will be welcome. All it is advertised as is "Acoustic", which these days seems to mean a small PA for the singers and Acoustic Guitars plugged in as well, though I may be wrong. Hope that helps. Try giving the pub a ring, don't have the number to hand but I am sure directory enquiries would have it.

Hey is not that important but thanks for taking the trouble is just the mind set materiel and which guitar to bring that was puzzled about.
I can live with it either way.
If I am truthful I hear or read Acoustic and think great!
Pictures of quiet laid back night in a more traditional sort of pub.
Music that is first hand and personal, needing listening to properly rather than forcing it way in and rattling aroung inside your ears.
Open mikes are great, small amp is great.
If a small amp is enough why do we need them?
Cant be arsed to ring the pub will come with whatever guitar comes to hand and can always enjoy evening listening I not a must play sort of guy.
Looking forward to meeting new folks and hearing new music.
Will be wearing disguise of six footbloke in leather jacket(and trousers etc(not leather))
You wil know me by me having a guitar and a wife with a whistle LOL
Cheers till later Hull

Wow back from the big city.
Met some nice people but didnt get to play.
Turned out to be a bit of a gig and the set we saw was great!
The band was Someone and the Somethings.
A nine piece(I think) Drummer,Bass and Rythm guitar ,Keys,Sax,Trumpet
threee lead singers and then a fourth when the keys player stepped out front too.
They played stuff from the Blues Brothers some self penned and a great Ska version of Hotel California I think there were some Eta James touches too.
I took me unpluggable guitar in the end and the audience were so pumped from the high energy music of this lot that I would have been flogging a dead horse with my stuff.
They were all very young and beautiful(ok Handsome for the lads)
I would pay to go see them at a full on gig.
If you get the chance give them a listen and if there is room you will be up and dancing.
Did any Muddies get in there?
If you did what happened after the break?

I saw the Somethings there last week too - they were brilliant! All really young as well (students). And fun - they played the Ghostbusters theme! They're playing somewhere this coming Thursday, but I've yet to find out where..

They were a bit of a hard act to follow, after they went off a guy with guitar got up and did some songs, he was quite good (thought his voice was a bit like David Bowie's) but of course everyone was a bit revved up to listen to his stuff.

I've just spoken to Sleepers manager and he said he's looking for acts to appear - pay is dependable on size of band etc. At the moment it seems to be booked acts, but he's thinking of an open mic evening maybe 1st Monday of the month.

Sleepers has a warm welcoming atmosphere, they have people going round handing out nibbles, which is nice! Gets full pretty early though.
Anyway Sleepers number is 342223 if any of you's interested.. some poeple are saying there's too many of these cafe bar joints springing on live music now, but I Like the atmosphere and think it's a good thing if it gets acoustic music a bit more heard. I see there's another Monday night live music at Garbutts cafe bar, the new one on Princes Ave - Andy Cornfoot's on tonight.

Jane Thisisull
Couldmnt agree more but I wish you would ask people not to refer to accoustic music venues.
All music is accoustic apart from the famous however many minutes of silence crap.
If you say it is accoustic the majority iof those who turn up to play will expect no amps PA microphones etc.
Mayby you could use plugged or unplugged is less confusing.
It was a nice freindly venue and the crowd were the same.
I am trying to persuade one of our local promoters to bring the somethings over to the south bank for a gig they are great.
