Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Desdemona Date: 06 Nov 06 - 06:42 PM Please understand that I have no wish to argue, either...and I can certainly relate to the anger and outrage anyone must feel at the wanton cruelty this man inflicted on innocent people (his own, amongst others). But I must freely confess to having no idea what would constitute the "best" or "right" or most "just" action in these situations; I suppose I should be grateful not to be in the position to have to decide. ~D |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Ron Davies Date: 06 Nov 06 - 06:40 PM "downright hypocrisy"--OK, Lox--would you imply that this sentence is not one the Iraqis would themselves have reached--with no Western participation in the trial? Evidence please. |

Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Lox Date: 06 Nov 06 - 06:36 PM "Fuck you and the mention of bravado" It's like saying: Call me violent again and I'll kick your head in! or Saddams a murderer kill him (though don't ask me to do it) |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Lox Date: 06 Nov 06 - 06:30 PM "I have very little to say to you" you began eloquently enough - what was it you said? ah yes: - "Fuck you" Now I remember. And as you said "I don't know who the hell you are, Lox" You are both defensive and aggressive to the extreme. try counting to ten. ... ok - five then |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Bobert Date: 06 Nov 06 - 06:26 PM Lets see... Saddam is convicted of killin' 144 and get the noose... Hmmmmmmm? I've got the Wes Ginny Slide Rule workin' on what Bush could get for 650,000... Bobert |

Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: number 6 Date: 06 Nov 06 - 06:22 PM The west shouldn't interfere with the sentence ... the horrific crimes he committed was against the Iraqis .... it's for the Iraqis to bring this guy to justice, and to carry out the sentence. biLL |

Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: GUEST,lox Date: 06 Nov 06 - 06:03 PM That earlier GUEST was me by the way, I forgot to attach my nickname. So does that mean you can imagine actuallyy putting a bullet through his head yourself or not? |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Peace Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:57 PM I agree with Ron. Ron, mark this date on the calendar. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Peace Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:55 PM FYI, Desdemona, I have been to two traffic fatalities in the past two weeks. I said 'last rites' over a young gal and had my head and shoulders in a vehicle trying to see if the driver was still alive in the other. The vehicle was engulfed at the time, and four guys using 1 1/2" hoses were keeping the flame off me while I checked. I do believe there is a sanctity to human life. I guess I simply think some folks just ain't human, and when they put themselves above and beyond humanity, I cease to see the point of them being around. Saddam Hussein is one such case. Equally, I taught in a maximum security facility for a year about two decades ago. Many of my 'students' were there because they had been convicted of murder. In most cases, the murders--while not right--were at least understandable. I see nothing understandable about Hussein's actions. I didn't then and I don't now. I have no wish to argue with you. I appreciate your position, and yes, I respect it. I just don't share it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Ron Davies Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:49 PM Let the Iraqis handle it--the West should not interfere with the sentence. It would be singularly stupid if we did. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: GUEST Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:48 PM "Peace" "Fuck you" "tell me why YOU would NOT pull the trigger." Interesting choice of nickname. I take it that th thought of actually shooting him yourself was too upsetting for you to honestly contemplate. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: GUEST,TIA Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:46 PM He's being executed (perhaps deservedly so) for something he did two years BEFORE the infamous handshake with Donald Rumsfeld photo. Wonder if Donald, the CIA or anyone had seen Peace's linked photo before the glad hand? |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Peace Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:45 PM He killed hundreds to thousands of people with that gas attack. What kind of 'human' does that? Hess was incarcerated for the balance of his life. Was that a 'kinder' action? |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Desdemona Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:35 PM No thinking person would (or could) argue that the person or persons who make these things happen should and must be stopped and punished. I just can't get comfortable with the logic of packaging more killing as "justice". ~D |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Peace Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:19 PM Look at this pic and tell me why YOU would NOT pull the trigger. |

Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Desdemona Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:12 PM Lock him up, forget about him, deny him the attention that megalomaniacs crave...taking away his ability to do further harm should be the main point, not catering to the lowest common denominator by staging a public execution. ~D |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: GUEST,lox Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:10 PM You shoot him then ... I mean really - enough with the gung ho and the righteous bravado. You go and put a gun to his head and do it. Try and imagine the reality of that for a second. Barbarism is barbarism. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Peace Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:04 PM While I agree that 'an eye for an eye' does not seem just, what would you rather do with a mass murderer? |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: GUEST,lox Date: 06 Nov 06 - 04:55 PM One day clintonhammond you may be asked to shoot a man in cold blood. I hope for your sake that day never comes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Desdemona Date: 06 Nov 06 - 03:56 PM I'm with weelittledrummer on this one...I fail to see how treating a perpetrator of humanitarian atrocities with human atrocity accomplishes anything but the continuation of a vicious and ultimately pointless cycle. But I guess that's just one more way in which I seem to be perennially out of touch with the prevailing attitudes of my countrymen, alas. ~D |

Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Hand-Pulled Boy Date: 06 Nov 06 - 11:57 AM A true Christian would simply forgive him and then teach him goodness towards his fellow man. It would send a message to the Muslim world that we are not barbaric. Good job the trial's in Bahgdad! |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Mr Fox Date: 06 Nov 06 - 11:23 AM "So where is bin Laden?" Where are the weapons of mass destruction? The ones WE sold him. Oh, I forgot - he used them on the Kurds. A crime we're hanging him for. That's either very clever or very stupid by all concerned. The Kurds, of course, remain very dead. As do several thousand other people. |

Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Big Al Whittle Date: 06 Nov 06 - 10:24 AM Nelson Mandela did a great thing by being a personal example of forgiveness. You need someone to say that whatever has happened and whatever will happen, I will be the first one to put violence behind me - please join me. This man has friends, relatives, people who will grieve for his memory and and honour what he stood for. Its a dumb move. As for the 72 virgins, he could do three trips to Inverness. Do they laugh at the stupid things in our religion - I bet they do. Do they walk round Soho saying, what a good job these people don't look at a woman with lust in their heart! |

Do they replace the virgins on a daily basis then bobad? Or is eternity confined to 72 days on the proviso that this bastard shows some modicum of restraint, which of course he NEVER did in real life. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Hrothgar Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:18 AM I'm still against the death penalty for anyone. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Grab Date: 06 Nov 06 - 05:17 AM But WLD, despite the worst excesses of the apartheit SA government, they stopped short at using mustard gas on their opponents... The problem Iraq has is the same one that Chile (and several other South American countries) are still facing - how can you go forward if you know that the torturers are still walking around free, while your family are dead? Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: Slag Date: 05 Nov 06 - 09:47 PM Seems to me I remember something about a free and open election in Iraq. Even Jimmy Carter signed off on it as being a fair election. Puppet government??? And as far as the execution of Saddam, shooting is too good for him. That could be considered as a warrior's death. Saddam is of the same ilk as Hitler: a mass murderer. He deserves the Eastern curse, death by hanging on a tree. |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: number 6 Date: 05 Nov 06 - 09:38 PM He will be executed .... but what has this accomplished? biLL |
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam sentenced to death From: GUEST,Martian Observer Date: 05 Nov 06 - 03:59 PM Ah. The new puppet government set up by the invading Empire conqueror forces prepares to execute the former tyrant client and friend of the invading Empire conqueror forces, the former client and friend having fallen out of favor in recent years for not being useful enough to the Empire, and who became expendable once his nasty reputation had helped serve as an excuse to launch an unprovoked invasion. This execution will be claimed to be at the behest of the Iraqi people which is a good joke, because the Iraqi people are bereft of any behest, which is to say that they don't really have anything to do with the decision of those who govern, because the people they voted for are puppets and do not really represent their interests. Ha! Ha! Typical Earthling stuff, in other words. We watch with a rare amusement, wondering what tawdry and outrageous turns the Iraq soap opera will take next as the Empire sinks slowly deeper and deeper into the morass of its ill-considered and violent attempts to rob small countries of their energy resources. |
