Subject: RE: I need some words From: Mo Date: 22 Mar 99 - 07:49 AM Alistair, the raging pedant in me would like to point out that "the hoi polloi" is tautologous. It's just "hoi polloi". I'd like to point it out - but I suspect I can't spell it.....!! Naturally, I'm accepted everywhere, as not only do I possess innate natural charm and modesty, but I can and do piss people off with quite stunning speed. Can't think why....... ! BG Mo |
Subject: RE: I need some words From: AlistairUK Date: 22 Mar 99 - 07:40 AM So basically..i have to criticise someone and piss them off and then I can get accepted by the Hoi Poloi ? ( muttering ) I'll get at catspaw, if I piss him off it'll be a real coup. Steve Parkes is too easy, I've already done him. Hehehehe I know, I'll have a go at Alison. |
Subject: RE: I need some words From: Ferrara Date: 22 Mar 99 - 07:32 AM Steve Parkes, I think I love you! -- at the very least, I love your sense of humor! - RF |
Subject: RE: I need some words From: Steve Parkes Date: 22 Mar 99 - 07:29 AM ... and title at windmills?! |
Subject: RE: I need some words From: Philippa Date: 22 Mar 99 - 07:27 AM AlaisdairUK, According to Banjer and me, you're not a real Mudcatter until you feel compelled to lecture thread creators on how they name their threads. The problem with an overly-general thread name like this is that various people will see the title and add requests for words to unrelated songs. The thread then becomes a hodge-podge of song requests and responses, with for example someone answering a query three songs back. So please make tiltes more specific (real Mudcatters act like we run the place!) |
Subject: RE: I need some words From: AlistairUK Date: 22 Mar 99 - 07:26 AM Aww Mo....it's not a real problem...well only if you let it get to ya! NOI |
Subject: RE: I need some words From: Ian Date: 22 Mar 99 - 07:25 AM Words don't appear to be in DT. Got them somewhere ... |
Subject: RE: I need some words From: Mo Date: 22 Mar 99 - 07:21 AM I know I've been away for the last couple of weeks, but I thought the general concensus was that we weren't going to do things like the above to new people anymore? That's twice I've seen someone have their metaphorical wrist slapped in the past couple of days. Please tell me things haven't changed in the Mudcat? Perturbed, Mo |
Subject: RE: I need some words From: Banjer Date: 22 Mar 99 - 06:53 AM I need some words: You all saw it, that was the request, so here goes, right from the first page of "The New Comprehensive A-Z Crossword Dictionary" A, aa, aardvark, Arron, aba, abaca, aback, Abaddon, abaft, abalone, abandon, abandoned, abandonment, abase, abasement, abash, abate, abatis, abattoir, abb, abba. There are more, about 1058 pages of them, and I will be more than happy to list them all if you think it will help! |
