Here are the details of Ingleton if anyone would like to have a nice weekend out in the Yorkshire Dales.

The festival is currently a one-off to help local traders claw a bit of income back before the winter after suffering from the virtual killing off of tourism earlier in the year when the area was a foot and mouth hotspot.

Ingleton Folk Weekend, North Yorks, hosted by Mike Harding - October 5 to 7

Friday 7pm Ceilidh with Footloose, Village Square (free)

Saturday 3pm and 8pm - Kate Rusby, Community Centre (£10)

Sunday 12 noon - The Horrocks Family, Ex Serviceman's Club (free) 1pm - Kinin, Masons Arms (free) 1pm - Hard Times, Craven Heifer (free) 2pm - Kwame D, Three Horseshoes (free) 2pm - Wildwood, Wheatsheaf (free) 3pm - Jig Busters, Marton Arms (free) 3pm - Sam Hill, St Marys Church (£5 and £3) 4pm - The Dalesmen, Craven Heifer (free)

Also morris dancing, clog dancing and story-telling.

Information and bookings, Ingleton Community Centre 015242 41701

I'm still hoping to get there for at least some of the weekend if not all. Anyone else? Ingleton realy is a grand little town with loads of other stuff around as well. And I don't even work for the tourist board;-)

We had Kinin (Masons Arms 1pm. Sun.) on at our club a couple of weeks ago BTW - Well worth a listen to. They were great.

Cheers

Hoping to get there, Dave, and possibly also Morticia and Kendall- we'll see when he arrives this side of the pond.

Sounds good, Sarah, thanks.

And, all being well, a Naemanson the Younger. Should we plan a meeting time/pub for 'catters? I like the Marton Arms myself but it's about a mile out of the village. The Bridge is pretty good as well and a lot closer but I can't spot it as a festival venue. Any ideas, Sarah?

Cheers

In the absense of any further instructions Moticia, Kendall and I are meeting in the Wheatsheaf at 8pm. on Friday. Looks like nothing going on there but it is close enough to the village square and does good food and drink.

On to the Ceilidh (or anything else that is going) after meeting. Anyone else? Mudcat T-shirts on view!

Ignore the above thread about the Bridge BTW - It closed down 2 weeks ago. Also been informed that the Marton Arms is the venue for the Saturday evening musical 'alternative' to the concert but double check at the village hall or tourist info first.

Further update - The 2pm Sunday 3 Horshoes session now starts at 6pm. (the 2 at 3 is now 6? Confusing or what?)

See yez all.

Good to see plans taking shape. I'm working Friday evening and Saturday morning, but will come over straight after that- any idea where you'll be mid-Saturday afternoon?

Any floor space in a caravan for a poor hard-up student?? :0)

I'll make sure I'm back in the Wheatsheaf at 3pm on Saturday in case anyone wants to buy me a drink. I'll be the one in a giggling heap in the corner;-)

Well, got back about 2pm - could not make this afternoons session due to prior commitments. Enjoyed the rest of the weekend enormously. Met Kendall, Morticia and Gomez at Forton Services on the M6. One of those odd coincidences. They had a horrendous journey from the south with the M6 traffic delaying them for hours. I set off at about 6:30pm and rang them at which point in time they were near Keele. I was then delayed by my friend, Ged, who decided he fancied coming along. I was happy to wait for him so we got underway at about 7:20-ish.

Just coming up to Forton and I rang Morticia. Gomez answered and told me they were just approaching Forton as well! So - distance gap of some 250 miles. Time gap of over six hours setting off. Traffic delays on the motorway. Other delays elsewhere - what were the chances of us being on the same mile of motorway at the same time?!?!?

Anyhow - we got there just in time for the final dance at the ceilidh in the village square. Repaired to the Wheatsheaf afterwards and had a bit of pub crawl around Ingleton. Kendall and I both left earlier than the rest (after a false start by Kendall but I shan't mention that...;-)) and we waited in the Caravan for the others to return. When they eventualy arrived they were like drowned rats so we decided that tea, coffee and a couple of bottles of Captain Morgan spiced rum would be in order. At 3:30am after lots of singing we decided it would be a good idea to get some sleep. Besides, the rum bottles were empty!

Saturday - picked up Naemansons daughter, Kelli (Lana on the Mudcat). She is a credit to you, Brett. Found it quite amusing that her and Kendall live in the same state and knew each other but had to cross the Atlantic to meet!

The outside displays were brilliant. Morris dancers, clog steppers, jugglers and all. Met Noreen and FOG over the course of the afternoon. Didn't make the concert (The weather was too nice anyway!) The session in the Wheatsheaf was going very nicely when I decided I needed some zee's. Managed to wake up on time to get to the the Marton on Saturday night and listened to some fine musicians and singers, saw some more dancing and made new friends.

Woke up more refreshed this morning and we made our farewells. Noreen and Phil were staying - keep us posted on how it went. Let us know how the rest of it went and if it achieved its goal as well, Carol.

I can't make Llanstock I'm afraid because I am going to York races so next chance of meet? Swinton of course! Plenty of opportunity for mudatters to meet at the singarounds.

And anyone who fancied going to Ingleton but couldn't make it btw - Swinton Hardy Intrepid Trecking Society (SHITS for short) Meet there every February for fun and frolicks. Or something like that. Watch this space.

Cheers

Dave

Yep, good weekend for a first effort. It was set up because other fund raising events during the summer were cancelled because of foot & mouth. Hope they do it again next year, but some fine tuning needed. Brilliant singaround at the OLD HILL INN (7 miles out of town!) on Saturday, but the evening session at the MARTON ARMS was not condusive to singing due to the background noise (found in most public bars)but was OK for the musicians. No one to act as m.c. at any of the sessions but that was no problem. Sunday afternoon, some great sessions with several groups who had their own p.a. The HORROCKS FAMILY did two fabulous sessions at the Ex Servicemens Club. They had mega pa gear but were only advertised as a 12.00 to 1.00 slot. This was good but they did another unadvertised session later (having brought all their gear) which had an audience of one, me! Great concert from Kate Rusby, but she declined to do an encore (first concert), not compulsary of course, but I thought this was a bit of a snub! The weather? well it could have been worse.

Could only get up from Sunday morning - as already said it could be good ground work for the future but some thought into the one venue/one artist didn't work too well.... Popped into see Kinin who were great as usual but the crowds they deserve didn't turn up! maybe they were too far out of town? As I'm not aware of the poltics of the organisers/venues I'm not sure if there's a reason for only one act per venue (in most cases!) and not 3/4 acts rotating around the venues - maybe less venues or more artists - didn't find any singaround although we were invited to start one - the venue was virtualy empty and our stomachs were as well! as the venue had decided not to put on meals that day!!!!

So we set off to try another venue - more people this time - only one "group" though and what's more food - so after breakfast/dinner/tea (and a few pints!) we set off back to dear old Lancashire.....

I hope no one thinks I'm knocking the event - yes it wasn't Sidmouth, Fylde or one the many other established events but to those very few people who were at the 1st Fylde Festival - who would have thought that would have expanded so well? but only then from a lot of work and listening to artists and festival goers.....

To the organisers - WELL DONE! - now start planning the next one - look to the other festivals and build on what they have found works, maybe more artists at each location or less venues and run singarounds at some of the others - there's plenty of people willing to help - maybe a few stewards would be handy - to advise on what's going on (especially to those poor (non-Folky) visitor that looked totally confused!).

verdict would go again........

Pete

Yes - forgot to add my thanks to the organisers. Well done indeed. As a veteran club and festival organiser I know how hard it is - keep it up and definitely see you next year. PM me for a run down on what we get up to there in February if you like and we can get together.

But don't ask about the sheep...;-)

Thanks for your kind words about my dear daughter. We are, of course, very proud of her.

I'm glad you all had a great time at the festival. Kelli had her own description that included a lot of pub time and music. Don't see how you could go wrong!

We went up for the Saturday and were directed by stewards in day glo yellow tabbards (why?) to the session SEVEN miles out. eh? what is going on? and that finished at three ish. We then found the Marton Arms (another few miles out in the other direction) unfolky type staff who looked at us strange when we asked for the nearest campsite. No campsite near was open and no room at the Inn down at the Caravan Park apparently. All strange for a folk festival; why didn't the organisers encourage sessions in the middle of town so we could walk and drink? Are the teachers and the concerts taking over? is this the way forward? Bah humbug.
