Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: CapriUni Date: 01 Oct 03 - 09:38 AM This came up just as Hurricane Isabel was looming... meant to sign up after it was over, then lost power for 11 days. Am I too late? |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: sian, west wales Date: 01 Oct 03 - 05:42 AM 'Phid, you're a treasure. No - you're a Transnational Treasure! Thanks for all your work. open mike - I missed out one year but I know that Liz mailed it and the post office screwed it up. It happens. If she get's my name this year ... she'll just have to come down to west Wales for a weekend and hand-deliver it! (I'll get cookin' now ... ! Chocolate OK for you, Liz?) sian |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 01 Oct 03 - 03:34 AM HI there!! I am planning to spend this weekend assigning Santas to Santees so you should all hear by Monday at the latest so it will give you plenty of time to shop/make and send. If anyone who wants to take part but hasn't signed up yet you have until FRIDAY 3rd OCTOBER!!! Open Mike, as I have said on many occassions I am really sorry that you didn't recieve your present. I saddens me that someone would agree to be in on something like this and then not fulfill their end of the deal. We do have to give a bit of leeway with the post, post does go missing and I know you weren't the only person not to reciev something or to recieve something late. I am sorry that you feel so bitter and I am not going to go into a lecture about being happy to give and not recieve. I am doing all I can to prevent people from not recieving something. All I can do is appologise Open Mike but can we now please stop the negativity on this subject. People are aware of what can go wrong with the post and I suggest that people send their parcel recorded delivery for the peace of mind. This is supposed to be a bit of fun and I am sure it will continue to be especially when the hints thread goes up sometime next week by the lovely Amos or anyone else willing to start it!! Perhaps next year Open Mike you would like to organise it all....... SSS |

If I get Fortunato as my Santee again, it'll be really difficult to keep that secret since I've had him two years in a row! HAHA!! Even more funny cause the poor guy has been in a World wide Pollyanna two years in a row and his secret Santa lives a little more than a hour away! Still, I encourage you join in the fun cause it IS a blast and CatsPhiddle does an awesome job running the show!!! Frank |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Helen Date: 05 Sep 03 - 08:27 PM In Oz if we are sending parcels overseas, and can't afford to send by airmail and have to send by sea then we are told to allow a few weeks for the U.S. and the Brits & Ireland. Maybe 4 weeks if you are optimistic and 6 is a fairly safe bet. If it gets there earlier than that then it is the luck of the draw, because they usually have to wait until the container is full enough to make it worthwhile to send. It used to be that ship mail ("whale mail"?) was the most common and therefore it was sent almost as quickly as you posted it. Now airmail ("albatross mail"?) is more common and so there is no delay in actually getting it in the air. Airmail can be sent economy rather than premium in Oz and this can add a few days to the arrival time. Airmail letters I have sent to the U.S. have arrived within 10 days usually, and 7 is the record for me. Helen |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: sian, west wales Date: 05 Sep 03 - 04:33 AM So - what's the cut-off point? ie. By what date do people have to declare an interest, and when are the names drawn? (I luv this stuff!) sian |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Robin2 Date: 04 Sep 03 - 11:39 PM I'm in! I'm in! I couldn't take part last year due to the stroke, but my Secret Santa sent me goodies that cheered me into the next year. I'm excited to take part this year! Robin2 |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 Sep 03 - 11:10 PM CatsPHiddle, I mailed you a smallish padded envelope and was surprised to hear back from you, probably within a week, that it had arrived. Maybe the size of the package influences how fast it goes. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Mudlark Date: 04 Sep 03 - 09:27 PM IN, definitely in! Nathan from Texas was a wonderfully inventive SS, keeping me guessing with letters from all over the world, plus wonderful gifts as well. This is, for me, a great new holiday tradition. I had a friend visiting here in Calif. from England and she was wowed by the whole idea. Thanks Cats, for taking this on again this year. PM follows.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Amos Date: 04 Sep 03 - 07:19 PM open mike: Did you ever rouse up Trevor and find out why? According to the lists he was your Santa. Maybe he died? Haven't heard from him 'round here in a while have we? A |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 04 Sep 03 - 07:04 PM As far as posting early -- it may depend on your local post office or the route it takes. I've sent several packages to England, and they always arrive in less than a week. I'm not sure where our mail goes after it goes to Louisville, but it must avoid all the large cities. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 04 Sep 03 - 06:22 PM Haven't seen Catspaw around for a while.....or I haven't been looking in the right places!!! I have quite a few volunteers who don't mind sending to 2 santees so there isn't a probelm if there is an odd number guest |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: GUEST Date: 04 Sep 03 - 06:07 PM What happens if you end up with an odd number? |
