Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! (2003) From: sian, west wales Date: 14 Oct 03 - 06:58 AM I see SSS's problem. Posting stuff anymore is a real lottery - depends on which postal workers handle your stuff and how paranoid they're feeling on any particular day. I think it's worth a PM to Catsphiddle to ask her to ask the Santee for a more 'deliverable' name if Santee wants a fair chance at receiving her/his largesse this Festive Season. BTW Liz - loved your 'hint' on the other thread. Bet you crack walnuts with a pneumatic hammer too! Back on the subject of paranoia - and not wanting to drift the thread too far - our college e-mail system has been refusing e-mails to me from our National Assembly because the Subject line is notifying me of a forthcoming meeting with our Minister of Environment, Sue Essex. Took postmasters at both ends a couple of days before realizing that "esSEX" was causing the problems. Net Nannies go wild! sian |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! (2003) From: Liz the Squeak Date: 14 Oct 03 - 02:15 AM Well, stuff addressed to Liz the Squeak with the postal address on has made it to me with no problem. Except that E type Jag.... but any day now I'm expecting the card through the door to tell me it's too big for my letter box and can I come and collect. Most postal systems read the address from the bottom up, starting with the post or zip code which tells everything except the number on the door. Judging by the crap we've had put through our door with our neighbours (as many as 20 doors away)names on, no one reads the names anyway. You could always address it to 'The Mudcatting Occupant' and the PO will think it's a new swear word! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! (2003) From: GUEST,Someone's Secret Santa Date: 13 Oct 03 - 02:09 PM I'm asked to mail a package to a single name, that may or may not be a real given name. The address looks complete, but the package has to go overseas. I'm not even sure if the Postal Authorities will take it, and feel less sure about safe delivery on the other end. I don't want to have to guarantee paying for return of an undeliverable package. I've had full names to mail to the past 2 years. I personally use a Mudcat name but have given my full name for SS purposes without problems. Advice please. Has anyone had experience mailing to an incomplete name in past years? |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! (2003) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Oct 03 - 04:39 PM Me, too. I have been shopping all year for the family, small stuff. Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Pseudolus Date: 02 Oct 03 - 11:12 AM Actually it'll still work out since the person you send to isn't necessarily the one who is sending YOU a gift, there doesn't need to be an even number.... Frank |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: CapriUni Date: 02 Oct 03 - 10:56 AM I'm already thinking of possible prezzies I can give, even before knowing who my Santee is! (Someone to give prezzies to! Yay! I don't have many of those in my life...) BTW, according to CatsPhiddle, there are 71 people signed up... Doesn't it work best if there are an even number of participants? What happens if we end up with an odd total? Does someone get two Santas, or two Santees? |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: GUEST,One of Santa's Helpers Date: 01 Oct 03 - 11:23 AM Well, Trevor, sometimes Santa's elves stick a little something in the post for Santas who went the extra mile, even if it went apparently unappreciated or unreceived. Cat can attest to this--be sure she has your correct snail mail! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Blackcatter Date: 01 Oct 03 - 10:37 AM Wow. I put in my palm top to check for the Secret Santa on Oct. 1 so that I'll be nice an early to sign up and now I see I'm almost late. That's fine - my pm will be sent right after this, but one problem for me is that I rarely look through the BS threads and so missed this totally for a whole month of check Mudcat 9 out of every 10 days. Maybe next year we can make it a semi-Permatread, or have a notice at the top of the whole page (I know, more work . . . ) Anyway, I'm in! Blackcatter |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Trevor Date: 01 Oct 03 - 09:49 AM What's going on here? When I found out that open mike hadn't received the goodies I sent her, I promised I would replace them, with the same stuff that I sent originally. I've had to wait to get one of the items - it's now arrived and the parcel goes tomorrow. I've already apologised profusely, although problems with the post are out of my control. Now I'm feeling crap that my Mudcat friends may be getting the impression that I'm some kind of baddie. I'm not, I've done what I should have, I've now done it again 'cos mike was obviously feeling really bad - is that OK by everyone? Whoever gets me this year is obviously going to be in for a hard time! Sorry 'Phid - I need to respond - how would it seem if I said nothing? |
