Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: ossonflags Date: 29 Jan 08 - 07:10 AM Well Peace that may be true in your part of Canada, but when I was there a few years ago - Ontario - when the locals said "let us have a drink it meant just that;ie.ONE bottle of beer. But eat.................that was a differant story. Hey Dozy Rozy I still have me cherub. |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: GUEST,dozy rozy Date: 28 Jan 08 - 04:15 PM I have ordered a long black frock and some fancy beads.I confess to everything. Now, can i get on with living a clean and wholesome life? |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Peace Date: 28 Jan 08 - 09:54 AM What's a pestle? In parts of Canada we have pestle parties. We drink 'til midnight and pestle dawn. |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Raggytash Date: 28 Jan 08 - 07:29 AM It's those bloody Cherubs, they're having a bad influence on you Rosy, you'll be stopping drinking next and starting crocheting doilies |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: ossonflags Date: 28 Jan 08 - 05:07 AM Good for you d.r.!!!!!! Nick, well I do have a love of Ham shanks and carlings so I may give your recipe a try. Will be up at Whitby this weekend - Poss. Bay Folk Club friday night |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: dozy rozy Date: 28 Jan 08 - 03:45 AM And I've stopped smoking. |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: dozy rozy Date: 28 Jan 08 - 03:43 AM Well, I go away for a short while and come back to find theres a bun fight about my weight. Thanks for your concern, everyone. For the record...I am not in the slightest bit interested in the various negative comments that are bandied about.Untill I began wasting my time drinking copious amounts or beer in the company of fools and idiots, I was always very slim indeed. And I have resumed my taining in karate and kick boxing, so keep your opinions to yourself.P.S. It will be nice to see everyone at the lifeboat do.Soldier boy, you are my sunshine. |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Raggytash Date: 28 Jan 08 - 03:25 AM Pestle ............... Ham Shank, yours is the traditional Yorkshire way to do them, mine is my own take on it but very nice all the same! Might do some for the Rescue Boat night which as we all know is Friday 28 March 2008 at the Friendship Rowing Club, Church Street Whitby |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: ossonflags Date: 28 Jan 08 - 02:25 AM Thanks Les you can also get them at that little shop down South Street in 'ull . I have always had/done them more of a dry way; soaked and boiled longer than mushy peas, when soft fry them in butter or dripping and just before serving shove a large glug of vinegar amd bit of salt in the pan, you will find this will evaporate very quickly. What is a pestle? |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Raggytash Date: 27 Jan 08 - 07:32 AM I soak them, then boil a pestle, use the fluid off that to cook the peas in, add the meat off the pestle and make them into a kind of soup. |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Les from Hull Date: 27 Jan 08 - 04:32 AM Mick - there's a shop in Driffield for all your carlin needs - click 'ere |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: ossonflags Date: 27 Jan 08 - 01:27 AM OOOOOOOOOOOoops!!Wrong year!! Easter is very early this year; Carlin Sunday is the Sunday before Palm Sunday so my estimation is that Carlin Sunday falls on 9th March? |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: ossonflags Date: 27 Jan 08 - 01:16 AM Carlin Sunday 2nd April. What is your recipe Nick? |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: GUEST,CS Date: 26 Jan 08 - 08:23 AM Good lord, back to the original thread i think - raising money for a very good cause! can we all just focus on that? |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Soldier boy Date: 25 Jan 08 - 07:51 PM OK Nick. On a more light hearted tone Hiya but what do yo mean by that? Like I said it is probably acceptable to make such personal comments about someone in private but not in a public forum like this. I thought you might have the balls to apologise to Dozy Rosy but no, you couldn't find it in you, could you? |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Raggytash Date: 25 Jan 08 - 07:41 AM "sometimes it is worth engaging brain before spouting off at the mouth" ............... pot ........... kettle ........ black :-)) See you on the 28th Chris :-) |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: GUEST Date: 24 Jan 08 - 07:28 PM Oh man! you are going to be in so much trouble from Dozy Rosy. I doubt that you will survive the RBRB night!! In defence of Dozy Rozy,I'm sorry, but you should be chastised. It is probably acceptable to make such personal comments about someone in private but not in a public forum like this. You have over stepped the mark and you most likely deserve to be battered. I can't speak for the rest of the Huddersfield contingent but on second thoughts I think I might just decide to steer clear of this event and also withdraw my offer of free greeting cards (worth well over £100) because of your insensitive comment on this thread. Sometimes it is worth engaging brain before spouting off at the mouth. Shame on you Nick! Soldier boy |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Raggytash Date: 24 Jan 08 - 03:24 AM Hi Chris ..........small contingent from Huddersfield ..........yes Dozy Rosy has lost loads of weight recently ......... too much I think !!! Sorry !!!............ that's me for a battering !!! Anything that helps raise funds would be much appreciated, with Sue from the Black Horse I'm going to resurrect an old tradition in Whitby by putting Carlin's on the bar on Carlin Sunday with donations going to the Rescue Boat |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Soldier boy Date: 23 Jan 08 - 12:03 PM Hope to get there Raggytash with a small contingent from Huddersfield. Are you still interested in some free greetings cards I can donate towards raising funds for the lifeboat? |

Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Peace Date: 15 Jan 08 - 10:06 AM I love seeing this thread every year. The work is dangerous at times and no call out is ever routine. Takes good hearts and lots of training--even for situation that may never happen. I have a mild fear of water, so anyone who would willingly get in a boat makes me gape. To get in a boat and face 10' breakers just to get off shore makes me scratch my head in amazement. They are very brave souls, although I know they'd never think of themselves in that manner. Gotta love guys and gals who put it on the line for others. It's the ultimate in courage, imo. Please pass on my thanks to them all. |

Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Raggytash Date: 12 Jan 08 - 03:27 AM Gnomad, thanks for the thought but we never set targets for fund raising, if we get £50 it's £50 more than the Rescue Boat would have had. Admittedly last years £900 was amazing but I wouldn't dare hope to repeat that never mind better it. |

Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Banjiman Date: 10 Jan 08 - 07:54 AM Nick, Yes I thought you were! I will pass on your thanks but if we make it on the 28th March (baby sitter dependent!) you can thank her in person! She'll be thrilled with your kind words. Cheers Paul |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Raggytash Date: 10 Jan 08 - 07:45 AM Hi Paul I'm the guy that Wendy met in the Endeavour last year and pestered her for the words. She very kindly sent them to me for which I am very grateful it is a brilliant song, however I was very remiss and did not contact her to say thank-you. Would you be kind enough to pass on my thanks to her Cheers Nick |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Banjiman Date: 10 Jan 08 - 07:26 AM Thanks Nick, We'll try and make it in that case, if you pm me an address we'll definitely donate a copy of Wendy's CD (includes "The Visitor", I know this was the Whitby lifeboat but still seems appropriate!) as a raffle prize.....that'll have em queuing for tickets then (ahem)...... Cheers Paul |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 10 Jan 08 - 07:20 AM Basically we go round the room in turn, each person either singing or leading a tune. We do however frown a little on 17 verse dirges and try to keep to the night as up-tempo as possible. We hold a raffle and I make some sort of supper for which we ask donations. All revenue generated is donated to the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat which is not sponsored by the RNLI and has to raise all its own funds. We have been hosting fund raisers for over ten yeras now and last year with the help of all the wonderful people who attend raised £900, a phenomenal amount. Have a look at www.runswickrescue.org.uk Cheers Nick |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: Banjiman Date: 10 Jan 08 - 05:48 AM Hi Raggy, What is the "same format as always"?..... Thanks Paul |
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby From: mandotim Date: 10 Jan 08 - 05:17 AM Hi Nick; looks like there will be a party (in so many senses of the word)coming from the Wilkes Head in Leek; wouldn't miss it for anything! Tim |
Subject: RUNSWICK BAY RESCUE BOAT From: Raggytash Date: 09 Jan 08 - 06:25 AM Once again it's time to tell all you good people about the annual fund raiser for the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat. This year it will be held on Friday 28th March at the Friendship Rowing Club in Whitby, same format as always if it ain't broke don't fix it. If anyone would like to donate a raffle prize it would be much appreciated and as always Christine and I will provide a supper for which we will extract as much money as we can from you, normal methods will apply, namely gripping reluctants by the ankles and shaking them till their pockets are empty! See you there Cheers Nick & Christine |
