I love presents that relate to from wherever my friends live. Or a CD of yours if you have one. Or else there is one book I would dearly love to have and can't seem to get them to reply. Someone with contacts in the UK might have more luck. (Heh! Heh! Not trying to find out your where-abouts or anything!) It's Classic English Folk Songs Selected and Edited by R. Vaughan Williams and A. L. Lloyd. Revised by Malcolm Douglas. It's so good to hear from you. I love having my own special Santa. I'll be sure to leave out the cookies and all when you drop in. Cheers and Joy from Joy |

Subject: RE: BS: SECSY Silly Secret Santa/Santee Hints From: sian, west wales Date: 20 Oct 04 - 06:19 PM Just saw this in the Globe and Mail and thought it would be useful info for SOME Secret Santas ... No more letters to 'Grandma' Washington — Most mail to Canada must bear the complete name and address of both sender and recipient or it will not be allowed into the country, the U.S. Postal Service said Wednesday. The tighter addressing requirements announced for people mailing packages in the United States are in response to increased border security demands. Even such sender or recipient identifications as "Grandma" or "Aunt Ruth" can result in mail's being rejected, the agency said. All mail, except post cards, that does not show the complete name and address of sender and recipient – in Roman letters and Arabic numerals – is being denied entry. Canada Post spokesman John Caines said that Canada Customs has become increasingly vigilant about enforcing the requirement that all international mail have a complete address for both the sender and recipient. U.S. postal officials said addresses on mail to Canada should be printed in ink or typewritten in capital letters, and the last line of the address must show only CANADA if there is no postal code included. If the postal code appear, mailing requirements allow that to appear as the last line of the address. Mailers must also fill out customs forms specifically identifying the contents of parcels. General descriptions such as "gift" or "present" are no longer acceptable. So ... bah humbug! sian, west wales (which won't be allowed, I guess!) |

Date: 19 Oct 04 - 07:32 AM Niver try to mak a fooil ov onybody this month; ther's fooils enuff i'th world already. It's oft struck me what a varry slight difference ther is between a wise man and a fooil; one aims at summat an' hits it – tother aims at summat an' misses it; an' aw have known th' time when th' chap 'at's missed has been worth a dozen sich like as him 'at's hit. But th' world generally sets 'em daan to be wise men 'at happen to be lucky men, an' get hold o' lots o' brass. An' ha monny brains a chap has, if he can't spooart a pair o' kid gloves an' a daycent hat, he mun niver hope for owt better nor to tak his place amang th' fooils. Aw've monny a time thowt when aw've heared fowk settin a chap daan as a fooil; – talk prattley – may be if he wor weighed up he's a better man nor yo this minit; yo connot tell all 'at he may have had to struggle wi' – Circumstances alter cases, Th' same as nooases alter faces. from John Hartley's "April Fooils" Now, I wonder if there could be a clue in there somewhere? Subject: RE: BS: SECSY Silly Secret Santa/Santee Hints From: GUEST,LF'S SS & Co. Date: 17 Oct 04 - 09:58 PM Dear LF: Not having heard squat from you, and really needing guidance in our selection of your Great Gift, we were wondering if you would mind answering the following questions. They will provide us with a psychological profile that will ensure that you get what you would truly like. 1. Do you feel that Morris Dancers are eccentric, or merely unusual? 2. Would you rather visit Whitechapel in 1880, East Anglia in 1375, or Penzance anytime? 3. What is your favourite unreal number? 4. Which goes on first: your shoes, your trousers, or your hat? 5. Complete this sentence: When I am filled with joy and delighted with being alive, I will correct the problem by_____________________. 6. My favourite meal is ____________________________________________. 7. True or False (choose one): I would rather play a digaredoo than a flautophone. 8. Rank this statement from 1 (being the lowest) to 5 (being the highest). Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, is one hot momma. 9. Please answer YES or NO. 10. Compare and contrast the epic hero in Byron's Childe Harold with Alyosha Karamazov. Discuss whether one or the other is an Absurdist Hero, making significant reference to El Cid, William Rufus, the Defence of Rourke's Drift, Svengali, Sisyphus, Hector, and the Red Branch Cycle. Be certain to keep your discussion within the Animistic-Zoroastrian context inherent in Mithriac literature. You have ten (10) minutes. |
