A few bumps in the road (air pockets in the sky) have prevented me from mailing your treasures. It goes out tomorrow and I hope will arrive in time for Christmas. If not, Happy New Year.

Dear Harpgirl,

It was a rough week when that harp got woven, truth to tell, short of time even though I don't spend such an unconscionable amount of it chatting on Mudcat as the Mr. does. (Do I detect a note of Bah, humbug in myself? I do enjoy the news from the outside world that he brings me, from Mudcat, as I slave in the salt mines.) Anyway, he's right, there was meant to be bits of ribbon to cover the bits of string that hold it together, and it is meant to be a harp--the Celtic kind. And I have to find a source for better wheat.

Re the ponies, they really are beautiful and yes, some have been bought and are on display around the state as public art. There was even a shop in the mall this Christmas with other work by some of the artists--more affordable, you betcha--some lizards and turtles that appeal to me (hint to Mr. Claws). That's not what I meant to tell you. There's also been some scandal involved--I never remember detail of scandals, something to do with the Trail organizers taking too much of the credit and the profit from the event, I think. And I was going to suggest that you look for them (and at them) online--but I can't get the website, "gopaintedponies", to open right now. You could try it, though. My home page won't open, either. I think the computer has Christmas stress syndrome.

I would invite you to stay with us if you come to visit the ponies, but as you know, we live at the North Pole.

I guess now we all know why Mr. Claws doesn't let me chat very often. Merry Christmas.

Jeri - you didn't dream the wire - I put it in because it was unusual and it would drive the customs officers mad!!

It will turn up - just ask Sorcha where it is - she's good at finding things for other people!

Have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year, and ....

I HAVE MORE SELF CONTROL THAN YOU!!

Mine is still wrapped and waiting.....

At last I have managed to locate and collect my prezzie. Santa's little helpers at Parcelforce need a boot up their rear before next Christmas!! All's well that ends well and THANK YOU SORCHA (grin). I have eight lovely wrapped prezzies which will remain wrapped until Christmas day. I think the Chugwater chilli mix ( which wasn't wrapped - I haven't cheated...well not yet anyway) will be great to share with Shellback friends and will save it for our first camping festival of the season!! From Dani:

. . . and just the nicest present I think I've ever had.

Aww. gee, thanks!

I has just got home from school with my daughter who is suddenly very sick: we hope it's "only" the flu. I tucked her in, cuddled up, and read her this wonderful story and it made both of us so HAPPY!

I hope your daughter is feeling better soon. I am glad I could play some small part in her healing. I am also glad that the elves at Kinkos could deliver the package in time for such an important task. Making someone feel better is so much more important than waiting for a date on a silly old calender...
~~~
Oh, and a note to my Secret Solstice Faery: I posted this news in the "goofy hints" thread, before I realized this one was here.
Your package arrived, safe and sound... but I am milking all the enjoyment of anticipation I can bear out of it, and am waiting until Solstice morning to open it...
Thanks, Alison ! Package arrived yesterday safe, sound and secure. It took some effort to figure out who sent it as these old eyes kept seeing the l and the i as a u, and the dot over the i as a dash. Will send more enthusiastic thanks after the grand opening on the 25th -- Tom
Well, if the stoopid elves got the right pressie into the right box, and if it didn't get bounced around too much behind the stampeding ponies, it was supposed to be a woven harp. Mrs. Claws, who is the one who made it, said that the stoopid elves were supposed to wait until she got bits of ribbon on it where the bits of string are. So-if you wouldn't mind finishing it...
Yippee!!!! My presents arrived! I was so excited I couldn't wait til Christmas!
They are a southwestern design bandana (I love them, I have one on me whenever I camp!), a gorgeous book of painted ponies from the New Mexico project: The Trail of Painted Ponies, and an object (is it ceremonial) woven from wheat grasses that is exquisite!
I was taught to weave small baskets out of yellow pine needles by an old indian woman named Mrytle McCoy who used to have a junk shop in Marianna, Florida. Looking at these natural objects thrills me so much and this one appears to be hand held and ceremonial. I could spend days in the Indian exhibits at the Smithsoniam and I love to read about Indians. (This triggered a memory of a patient I had in the 70's in Michigan who had built Indian digs for himself in his yard where he stayed. He would come to his appointments with his bow and arrows in a quiver (all hand made) and we made him leave them at the front desk!!)
So comeon, Santa tell me what it is if you aren't going to reveal yourself!!
The painted ponies are evidently all over New Mexico as a result of this fund raising project so I will have to visit to see them.
Anyone who knows me knows I love art. These are really special Santa and I am thrilled. Thank you so much for your thoughtful pressies!
Love, harpgirl
Yesterday was quite the day.
In a fit of holiday magnanimity and on the last day of work before the company closes for two weeks over the holidays, my part time employer, Technology Business Research, "terminated" my entire office of part time surveyers (that's three of us). Merry Christmas, eh? How long have you worked here, not counting tomorrow, and can you please get your stuff out of our desks?
Ah, well.
After a conference with my co-unemployed at the local Burger King, a stop at Employment Security to file a claim, and the credit union to cash my next-to-last check (quick!), we actually found a parking place betwixt the Post Office and The Press Room and discovered packages from Mudcat Secret Santas waiting for us at the post office!
I didn't even get to see the outside of the packages (I'll let Tom post his own comments on his gifties) until after arriving home after the Friday night Press Room session.
Wow! And Tom is INSISTING on me being a good kid and NOT OPENING ANYTHING (except the really neat personalized card and the unwrapped stuff) UNTIL CHRISTMAS MORNING!!! He can't keep me from shaking and poking, though . . .
What great fun! -- 12 wrapped gifts for the 12 days of Christmas! This is too cool for words. Thank you, Partridge! (That's "seasonal" I guess. Good hints!) And the cats thank you, too, for the catnip treats! The musical note ornament is a wonderful addition to our musical tree decorations.
Can't wait til Christmas morning!
Linn
To Bet's Secret Santa, she passed through here, today, on her way to daughter's and son's for Christmas. She's been swamped with Christmas programs at school, so missed your posting. I told her about it and she said she had indeed received part of the pressie and thank you very much. Her life will be back to what appears to be normal after the first and I am sure she'll get back on here to report. (She doesn't have access at home for the moment, either.:-)
Dear Santa,
I have found you out!! It took awhile; you were quite clever. I am sorry, I can never wait to open pressies once they've arrived, esp. from a Secret Santa! )Checking by the name on the return addy, all I could find was a piper by that name who'd passed away, so...I was wondering what might have come from the Other Side, but THEN, I read "Motherclay" and that gave you away!
I LOVE my Motherclay Santa!! And, the wild rice, honey and book are wonderful and so thoughtful. How wonderful that the rice was harvested from your friend's place and now, I can taste the local honey from your region! I love honey and rice, both, and anything by Keillor!!! AND, Rena's CD, autographed and all! I've only had a chance to listen to a couple of cuts, but I really like what I hear!!
Thank yew, thank yew, thank yew! I'll post a picture of my VERY OWN, Hand-sculptured, signed and numbered, Double Image Santa from your very own clay pit in a day or two. (The house is in a state of choas at the moment, making room for daughter and our new grandson, so things are not where they should be, such as the digital camera, etc!)**bg**
At one point I'd told CatsPHIDDLE that I was going to withdraw from the Secret Santa thing this year as it just seemed I was going to be too swamped with helping our daughter and grandson, etc. BOY, am I glad I changed my mind!!
Thanks, Santa and thanks to Khatt, too!!
Just a guess, but thanks to MAG, Leo, and Susan (if others need to get thanked, please let me know!)
And yay again!
I also was in need of a gift: also didn't know the FedEx envelope I WAS a gift. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
And what to my wondering eyes should appear?! A lovely, personal, real-life fairy tale by our own CapriUni! It was written and illustrated by her and DEDICATED to me and our restaurant. Lovely story, lovely sentiment, and just the nicest present I think I've ever had.
I has just got home from school with my daughter who is suddenly very sick: we hope it's "only" the flu. I tucked her in, cuddled up, and read her this wonderful story and it made both of us so HAPPY!
May I steal a line from one of your own songs?:
"Just trade all your worries for dreams and bright visions.
Let all your fears fade away in the night."
Thank you so much, Ann. And CatsPhiddle for arranging all this happiness for so many people all over the GLOBE!
Well, I've just seen a communication from my secret santa a few days ago. Let me just say I didnt complain about the wrapping paper, I just said it looked strange. I like strange things. Your identity is mysterious. You address me as Gregster, which is a Bobert habit, but you cant be Bobert because you sent cryptic references which quizzically suggest your name is Clancy. And Bobert name isnt Clancy.
   ANyway, i dutifully resist the temptation to open the parcel till Christmas Day, and hope there will be some more identity clues therin.(And I know a bit about resisting temptation, it is TWO MONTHS TOMORROW that I gave up smoking. So I seriously hope this parcel doesnt contain Golden Virginia.
I don't know, Bruce, maybe. I'm starting to believe anything's possible. I'm currently terrified LtS will come in here later and say "Wire? What wire?"
I lost a pair or scissors today while wrapping packages. I had a piece of freshly-cut wrapping paper in one hand and needed to trim it further. No scissors. I turned around to go into the living room to look for them. Luckily, a brain cell sputtered and kicked in for long enough for me to realize I'd JUST cut the paper off the roll. (The scissors were under it.) I think I need a shitload of Ginko or something.
Beware of puns...
Anyway, I GOT MINE! And no, I have absolutely no self control at all and I really needed something to get into the spirit. Add in the fact that it said 'cookies' on the customs slip and I had to make sure they didn't go stale. (They were packaged biscuits, but I didn't know that.) Naturally, I didn't find the imperiled cookies until I opened the last package. I got a whole bunch of gorgeous beeds and beading supplies including wire, which I'm pretty sure I didn't hallucinate (see below), a picture frame with autumn leaves on it and... a jar of Marmite.
Now, the wire. I unwrapped it, admired it (I've never used it before and wanted to play with it), and set it down with the other stuff until I found those cookies. When I'd saved the poor things, I gathered everything together to move it to a better location and THE WIRE WAS GONE! I hadn't moved from the chair, I remember exactly where I set it down, and it WASN'T THERE. I've torn this area apart (read: I cleaned up piles of stuff) and I can't find it. I wonder if some mousie has dragged it off to decorate with or perhaps made a snare for a neighbor's cat. I wonder if the fairies are playing games or there's some wire-sucking black hole in here. It's weird.*
I'll let you know when I've found it.
Anyway,
THANK YOU
LIZ THE SQUEAK,
MANITAS AND LIMPIT
*My mom once was sitting in a chair doing a crossword puzzle in one of those spiral booklets. She reached to answer the phone. When she was done talking and went back to the crossword puzzle on her lap, it wasn't there. I later found it behind the bookshelves which were crammed full of books. It was about 7' wide and 7' high with stuff on top that came to about a foot below the ceiling, and 6' away from her. The book would have had to fly off her lap, travel through the air and slide through a bunch of books or go farther and higher to sail over the bookshelves. It would have had to do so without both of us hearing or seeing it OR her feeling it launching. Maybe this sort of stuff runs in the family. (Yes, I looked behind the bookcase for the wire, just in case.)
Thankyou SS.
A package arrived today with a postmark of YO8, which, my researches tell me, is the Selby area. So that narrows it down to only a few hundred Catters.
I've opened the outer wrapping, but the inner wrapping (containing 2 books?) will be put under the tree till next Thursday.
Wait? We're supposed to wait? Not me- I got a stocking stuffed with all kinds of goodies and a wonderful cd which brings all sorts of inspiration for the future. It was just what I needed in a dark time. Thanks, Nancy!
All right, I must confess. I opened my package. "I" could have waited til the 25th, you see. But my wife and daughter could not stand not knowing what was in "that box". So I now have several nice gifts but no clue as to who they're from. Should I take a wild guess? Or would my "Santa" give a little hint. I have one idea but of course could be totally wrong. Oh, and thanks so much!!
Hello all,
I didn't even notice this thread until today. I got my present in the mail last week and opened the outer box (just in case there was food or something perishable inside. I got three pressies all wrapped up, which I will not open until Yule on the 22.
The pressies are from Tig & The Badger & Firecat (THANKS!) The funny thing is I didn't understand the card sen along with it until yesterday.
For those who can't see me holding it up to the screen - it shows to reindeer decorating an outdoor christmas tree. There are three reindeer falling from the sky. The first reindeer asks "Snow?" And the second replies: "No, just Reindeer." Scarry that it took a week for me to get it, huh?
You think you're close. You may be right.
My hook is baited - will you bite?
The Hawthornes may be close to me,
Or are you barking up the wrong tree?
By following a Mudcat trail
You'll see me get away and wail.
And if my name you then can tell
Perhaps I'll crawl out of my shell.
HO! HO! HO!
Ah! Ha! West Bromwich? Near Birmingham? Tried the envelope again. The magnifying glass is a wonderous thing. Our atlas has several lines all meeting there! Now for the names. More time needed with the location list, the thread postings, and the atlas. Perfidious indeed! Dear Santa. Joybelle-closing-in?
Oh I love puzzles. Need a bit more time. Now I know you won't go away, and neither will my wonderful present, I'll think on it. Thank you Santa. Do I hear the echo of a HO HO HO! from just down the road? Can't be! Must be an asthmatic sheep! Joybells and happiness.
Oh, bird in the Bush, you're anxious to know
Where on earth do I live. Don't search high and low.
New York or Old England? Which could it be?
Maybe it's neither - I'm devious, me.
But there's clues on the envelope for your inspection
Which may be of use to find the direction.
West Greenwich, West Norwich, West Sandwich, maybe
For the rest of it isn't that easy to see
But I'm not letting on if I'm colt or I'm filly
Though as for my name - it's not Sally or Willy.
Opening the CDs won't help you to guess
For there's nothing in there points to my address
If like Rumpelstiltskin my name you discover
It won't harm me at all. Have a guess. Have another.
If none of this helps you, well ain't that invidious
You have to remember that Albion's perfidious
HO! HO! HO!
