PS, it's easy to get confused, Joybell. I saw that my present had a return address of West Chester, PA and promptly sent Max a thank you message, to which he responded kindly but in complete confusion. I then noticed that the package was postmarked from Florida, and the sender used the Mudcat mailing address as the return address.

Mine came! Mine came! I did get pressies from Santa about 55 years ago but then it wasn't MY OWN SPECIAL Santa. I'm so excited. Opened the ouside packet but I'm leaving the inside wrapping on 'till Christmas morning. My dear Secret Santa, I haven't given up on trying to find out who you are - perhaps it will be revealed when I open up my CDs. Wow CDs!! I can feel that's what they are! Unless it's one more secret disguise. I'm studying the location list and every other list I can find. And there's the recycled envelope with the name half blacked out and the UK postmark! But your postcard came from New York? Are you being very, very devious my dear Santa? Do you live in West (something)wich? somewhere in the UK? New York? Does your name end in lly? I'll find you somehow, unless it's like naming someone in folklore when you mustn't because of the danger of harming them. I wouldn't want to do that. Let me know if it's like that and I'll keep the secret.

Mine arrived today and I just had to open the box but so far have resisted the temptation to open the two packages inside. Read the Calgary Herald and was pleased to find I had a coupon for $1 off the admission to the 'Everything to do with Sex' show! Always knew I should have emigrated when I had the chance!!

Dept don't know what kind of apple it is. All we know is that it's goooooooood. It doesn't have a name yet, but the farmer is leaning towards naming them for what they are: "Emmit's Pride". Guess what.....NO they didn't turn up & when I managed to get through on the phone they admitted that they had 'lost' the parcel. With the threat of me on the doorstep of the depot after work $$$$$!!!!!!****** I had a call back to say that they had located my prezzie and they have promised to deliver today (HO HUM). I'm hopeful but all set for a possible visit to Redhill tonight after work!!!!!........watch this space.

Somebody out there, my SS, has sent me a present. Yes!! And it's not coal or sticks or worse.

That's because I've been goooooooooooooooooooooooooooood all year. My present came. It was in the PO Box when we picked up the mail this evening.

(sniff, sniff) I've never gotten presents before. Never. First because we were so poor that Santa thought our house was the city dump (which it was, but that's another story) and then, later, because I was One Bad Dude.

Ooooh, Bat Goddess, if I send you a Texas fossil, will you send me some of your granite? It sounds lovely! I grew up in the Pacific Northwest with a much bigger mix of rocks than down here in Texas (Limestone is king through much of this area--you have to travel to a distance to find places where ancient buried mountain ranges extrude and present igneous and metamorphic rocks and minerals). Granite can be one of the most amazing rocks. I love a good pegmatite also (musch bigger chunks, with crystal definition, than is what is defined in granite).

There is a very nice tutorial on types of igneous rocks here, including granite.

It's not just granite! It may be mostly quartz and feldspar and mica, but it's got nice blood red GARNETS scattered through it. The garnets range in size from grain of sand size to pea size. Lovely color.

I had to dig through snow to get to them, so I couldn't choose the best of what was available. Bruce got what came up in my mittened hand.

But that's the stuff we're sitting on. Fortunately there's enough dirt and leaf mold to support all the trees (and my garden). The beaches (25 miles away) are even streaked with garnet sand sometimes after a storm.

(I'm glad Bruce appreciates a fine rock when he sees one!)

wel,l I caved...it has been a hellish week (one of my classes for next semester was cancelled and I now have to find another job) and I needed some cheering up. So I OPENED 'em! Yup, couldn't wait. Found, beneath the nice red stripey paper, a groovy pewter pentacle pendant, and a cool CD from some sexy Finnish singers! I have not listened to it yet, but as I will be painting in my apartment tomorrow I am sure it will get listened to a great deal then. I LOVE contemporary Scandinavian music! So thanks, Santa!!!!

I hope that you will enjoy them...I have today sent another little thing which I hope you will also like (I think you will but am fearful that you may have it already knowing your musical tastes...in which case please feel free to pass it on to a person of your choice and I will send something else) since they are indeed rather small packages and since anything I could make you myself would be rather larger and heavier. Hopefully this will arrive by Yule or shortly thereafter.

I also have some studio time planned in the New Year and, if the results are not too embarassing, I will also send you a copy of the fruits of that particular endeavour. It will, however, not be at all in the same style...!
