The epitath might read---

"Here lies the thread, It is finally dead Who delivered the final blow? At this rate, we'll n'er know"

That might even make the gravestone worthy of a rubbing, probably at laest a photo!

This damn thread came to me
It softly snuck in
And quietly climbed to the top once again
And it laid a grin on me
And this it did say
Oh it will not be long, love
'Till they're posting again

And when we think it's dead...back it will come, days, weeks, months, years later. Someone will put a trace on it - and when we think we're safe, it rises from the grave and reqches towards us! Think Freddie...

Sure, 'Spaw. Or we could each post as GUEST and kill it anonymously. After all, wasn't it Julius Caesar who was stabbed something like 32 times but nobody really ever took credit for it? Maybe it could work here. But then, don'tchaknow that after we had done all that anonymous posting, someone would come along and spoil the scheme by adding their name at the end.

That's OK Ebbie....Made your comment all the funnier.

Alright, I been thinkin' and technically a thread may be linked to another, a part 2, but part 2 is NOT the original thread and exists with a separate thread ID number.

Most threads become hard to load at about 100 and real tough at 150....ridiculously time consuming after that. This sucker isn't dying of course, so let's just run it up to 150 or 200 so that it is too time consuming to screw with. Post OK if you like. Or good idea. Anything. Post your underwear size...we'll talk about it. When it gets up there, we let it go and take mutual responsibility/credit for killing the sucker.

Whaddaya' think?

Spaw

The average sperm whale is 95 inches long, and the female is 105 inches deep. So these are averages,..."Moby".

Poor guy, crucifixion by ignorement. Now that sounds awful!

Gee! Imagine they threw a crucifixion and no one showed up!

And I was feeling bad for being ignored! Wow! That would be a REAL bummer!

Hey! Can I rant about this for a minute PLEEZE?????

I was going to say something clever about the Resurrection; but it was too easy.

I'll have to say that this has been interesting - even this last bit. It is nice to know there are others who have experienced the same level of paranoia or simple irritation at watching a thread die with your last utterance. Thanks for the reassurance.

You realise that this thing is getting harder to kill than the woman in 'Mercy', the Stephen King thing, where the author takes at least 5 goes to keep her down. The French and Saunders parody of it was even better than the original!

Somebody, take it out, put a stake through it and bury it at a crossroads, at midnight in an unmarked grave!!!

LTS

Then it can come back as the UnThread......

How can you get a proper thread creep/drift/lurch intop an undead thread like this?

Post - Top - Home - Printer Friendly - Translate

Subject: RE: BS: Killing the thread
From: MMario

I don't think thread creep kills thread as thread creep tends to keep a thread alive. I think it's the excercise it gets while creeping...

Not to change the subject here but thread creep seems to kill the initial intent of many threads. Something within the message of some threads triggers a chord in several readers at once and off they go posting about why the mayo went bad in that sandwich... It's happened to me as well. I guess some obscure questions, though they may seem important to some of us, are not very interesting to others. We can't seriously expect to find all the answers here, can we? Maybe some things are best left unanswered.

If we let this thread die, it may be reincarnated as a thread on insects or cats....in fact, for all we know, this was one of the Great Threads from history, and is about to be preserved in teal coloured amber for posterior. Let it go, it's quality of life is sinking fast and they're thinking of turning off the machines.

Kevin said.

"I've found there's two ways you kill a thread. One is where you write some would-be clever stuff that you sort of feel is the last word. And it is. But you've no way of knowing whether it really was the last word, and the others are saying "can't top that one" - or whether they have just pissed off down the pub, so to speak, leaving you talking to yourself in an empty room. Sad.

Sorry I have just got back from the pub.
