I'm now much older than Pete was then and can barely accept that I'm middle aged. Hope Pete had a great start to his 90th year and that he'll have a great decade on the way to his 100th. |

Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Birthday From: GUEST,Pete Seeger documentary project Date: 05 Aug 07 - 01:11 PM Hello, I have find your comments about Pete Seeger. Please let me send to you the next mail: My name is Josep and I live in Barcelona, Spain. I like Pete Seeger from my twenties (now I am 43) and he has made me love the banjo and try to play it in frailing style. Also I take classes of three fingering style with Lluís Gomez ( www.nechville.com/downloads/banjoviasummer06.pdf). I work in the media as a technician and video mixer in Television of Catalonia (TV3). I have been working there for 18 years. I like very much documentary and I want to make an independent documentary about Pete Seeger. Attention: It has no relation with TV3 is just and only and independent project for me. So TV3 is not behind the project. If you like very much Pete Seeger's person and music, has followed his career through your life, have attended to his concerts and historic musical moments in his career, also if you play banjo or guitar perhaps for the Pete Seeger influence, and you want to make your contribution to this documentary in your own words, please write to me. If you are interested could you send me an email: jlloveraster@gmail.com Also could you answering the following questions with a few words, just to make a first contact. The next step for the people who are interested in taking part of the docu will be another more deep interview. All of that in order to make a selection: -Your relation with the music and career of Pete Seeger. -What Pete meants to you. -Why you are interested in participate in the docu. I am looking for common people, not famous, or professional people, just different people, different ages, from different places, etc. The docu will try to make an approximation to Pete through the experiences and thoughts of "anonymous" people. I am looking for people who likes Pete Seeger but I am not assuming that everyone agrees everything with Pete. I think that every respectful and positive criticism is good. But I am looking for people that beyond the diferences and disagreements like very much Pete. I am just starting the project, so there is a lot of time before I go anywhere to shot the docu. Thank you very much. Josep |
Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Birthday From: Frank of Toledo Date: 04 May 99 - 12:01 AM I was living in Portland, Oregon through the 80's and early 90's playing om a few coffee houses, bars and mainly busking on the streets. Up to that point I had never had the pleasure of seeing Pete, though I had been in Boston and New York in the early 60's. Got to see Ramblin Jack, Ed McCurdy, Bob Dylan Jean Ritchie and others. And here it is 1991 in early March. Someone comes up to me on the street and asks for a Pete Seeger song, so I think I did The Bells of Rhymney. He proceeds to tell me that Pete is playing in Portland the next night. So I figured that he's be playing at the Civic Auditorium or the larger concert hall and would be sold out. Much to my surprise and pleasure the gentleman handed me a ticket to the concert and it was being held at one the city "high schools"! And it was for the benefit of the Farm Workers struggle aka Cesar Chavez. What else could you expect from such a great human being. Humility and Love and Human compassion and all the rest. That's Pete Seeger. Happy Birthday Pete and God Bless you! |
Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Birthday From: Dani Date: 03 May 99 - 09:59 PM I can't count the ways in which Pete has affected my life, and the lives of my children. The smiles, music (especially banjo) he caused to be in my life have added immeasurably to its enjoyment. And, I have to say, he HAS set an example (that I too often fall short of) of how to work for justice in this world and still be a person that people can live with. If ever a good soul walked among us, Pete has had custody of it for 80 good years. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Birthday From: Guy Wolff Date: 03 May 99 - 09:41 PM I think I gave, first my brother, and then a girl friend a banjo before I figured out that I might just be interested myself. Then in early winter of 1970 I had a motorcycle crash on the "Tumble" outside of Cardiff in Wales and found myself with both a broken neck and the time and interest to get a banjo and Petes book on how to play the thing. The conpasion and humor in that book helped me through a pritty rough winter.I will always be exceedingly thankfull to Pete for his hard work on that little book and the integrity he has brought to everything he has been involved in.He is a great insperation to us all.........Guy Wolff..~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Birthday From: Peter T. Date: 03 May 99 - 02:35 PM Yes, Happy Birthday, Pete. It is funny and sad that after all these years you still stand almost unique in a world you were trying to organize to fight the good fight with you. But you have borne witness, which, as the Quakers say, is not nothing; and struggled humanly against an often indifferent and hostile political universe, as Pascal would have said if he had been an activist. Of how many people can it be said that just thinking about them brings a smile to the face; though not perhaps enough new resolve to the soul? Yours, Peter T.

Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Birthday From: Matthew B. Date: 03 May 99 - 02:30 PM The high point in my entire musical "career" so far was performing with Pete last November. The only thing more ego-inflating than singing with him is being introduced by him. But seriously, he's a man you never forget. And a joy to sing with. Happy Birthday, Pete Matthew Bram |
Subject: RE: Pete Seeger Birthday From: John Hindsill Date: 03 May 99 - 12:02 AM Happy birthday Pete Seeger...it seems that I have heard him all of my life. I had a chance to speak with Pete on a local radio show sometime ago, and told him this Republican was centered by the folk music of himself, the Weavers, PP&M etc. Here's to 80 more in health and happiness. |
