Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: Tattie Bogle Date: 12 May 20 - 08:13 AM Yes, and you could put the capo anywhere you like and use those 3 simpler chords to find a key that suits your voice! I'd probably leave the capo off as Am would suit me fine! |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: GUEST,Tom Swiss Date: 11 May 20 - 10:57 PM I may be stating the obvious to a lot of you folks, but it took me a few minutes to see that C#m, B maj, and G#m (as noted as the songbook chords above) are just Am, G, and Em with capo on 4. I mean, you can play them as barre chords if you like, but I'm a lazy man with slow fingers. Thanks! |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: Tattie Bogle Date: 30 Sep 19 - 01:33 PM And they are just NOT the same tune, whether transposed or modulated from major to minor. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: Tattie Bogle Date: 30 Sep 19 - 01:21 PM Agreed: Words and Music: A.M.Stewart as it says in his book. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: GUEST Date: 30 Sep 19 - 01:00 PM No, wrong, he wrote them both. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: Jack Campin Date: 30 Sep 19 - 11:11 AM It's very common to have 6/8 and 4/4 variants of the same tune. Transpositions are irrelevant. And tunes often mutate in mode while retaining their identity. I guess The Ramblin' Rover is trad and Andy M had it in his repertoire first, then unconsciously reshaped it into his own song. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: Tattie Bogle Date: 30 Sep 19 - 10:50 AM I have the Andy M. Stewart Collection songbook, which has both of the above-mentioned songs in it. Queen of All Argyll is in the lovely key of C#m so chords used are C#m, B maj and penultimate bar of verse and chorus are G#m! It is in 2/2 time sig. Ramblin' Rover us in C MAJOR, and 6/8 time, so no resemblance between the 2 tunes. I think the book is hard to get now, but worth having if you like Andy's repertoire. Its ISBN no is 0-8256-9420-5 |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: GUEST Date: 29 Sep 19 - 01:19 PM No. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: Jack Campin Date: 29 Sep 19 - 08:16 AM The tune is basically "The Ramblin' Rover" slowed down a bit, isn't it? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: GUEST,Hussein Horack Date: 29 Sep 19 - 07:57 AM Not sure if this thread will be looked at again, but there still seems to be hardly anything in the way of treble clef sheet music for this tune on the internet... in 2019. I've looked probably three times over the last year or two... or three. On a side note, this thread very nearly as old as me! About one year younger. Wow! |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: GUEST,Dr.Dan Date: 18 Feb 08 - 10:47 AM The above has mis-formated during uploading ... the chords are no-longer matched to the words. :-( Can't fix this but I'm sure if you know the tune you can work out where to change the chords. Each chord represents a full bar in 4/4 time. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: GUEST,Dr.Dan Date: 18 Feb 08 - 10:44 AM These are the chords I use (based on Jill Anderson's interpretation) Queen of Argyll (Em) Am Am Em G Gentle men it is me duty To inform you of one beauty Em G D Bm Though I'd ask of you a favour, not to seek her for a while Em Em Em G Though I own she is a creature Of character and feature Em G D Em No words can paint the picture of the Queen of ole Argyll CHORUS Em Em Em G And if you could have seen her there, boys if you had just been there Em G D Bm The swan was in her movement, and the morning in her smile Em Em Em G All the roses in the garden, they bow and ask her pardon Em G D Em For not one could match the beauty of the queen of ole Argyll On that evening that I mention, I passed with light intention Through a part of our dear country known for beauty and for style Being a place of noble thinkers, of scholars and great drinkers But above them all for splendour shone the Queen of Ole Argyll CHORUS So my lads my needs must leave you, my intention not to grieve you Nor indeed would I deceive you, oh I'll see you in a while I must find some way to gain her, to court her and to tame her I fear my heart's in danger from the Queen of ole Argyll CHORUS |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: menzze Date: 07 Apr 03 - 06:05 AM The german band SUBWAY TO SALLY recorded it on their 1994 album with a very own interpretation, a sort of middle-ages-metal-folk-rock-version. You should try to listen to that, something different beside the pure folk thing. Another version you can find on "Sunken Treasures" previously unreleased tracks from 1989 to 1992 from TEMPEST a folk-rock band from america menzze |

...........Dm..............Am |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: Naemanson Date: 28 Aug 00 - 03:54 PM Well, I want to sing it in MY key of course! Doesn't everyone? *BG* But don't worry. If you don't have the chords in a key I can sing I'll just use my analog key lifter (capo) to fit the song to my voice. As far as hearing the song I do have the album but I am not musically proficient enough to lift the chords by ear. Oh, and Mbo, I hope the chords you have can be played by a fairly clumsy set of hands. I tend to avoid those that require my fingers to span more than three frets. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 28 Aug 00 - 01:52 PM Chords?? Depends what key you wanna sing it in... {~`

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Queen of All Argyll From: GUEST,Dwight (Sydney - Australia) Date: 28 Aug 00 - 08:47 AM Hi Henrik Are you looking for the sheet music or just a recording of the song? It is actually "The Queen of Argyll" (no "all" in the title!) I have it as the first song on a great selection of favourites in the album "Silly Wizardry" with the group Silly Wizard, with Andy M Stewart singing it. It is on Green Linnett Records, 1988. Hope this is of help to you! Best wishes Dwight |
