If its dead, I'll take it...if it hasn't been dead too long, that is. Personally, I've always thought horses were mostly only good for eating-must be the French in me coming out.

Hey, Doug...not to worry! I understood your humour entirely. I find the best remedy for when people insist on taking one's humorous remarks dead seriously and getting all upset about it is this:

Say something so completely silly in response that only a complete moron could take it seriously...and if such a moron surfaces, then do the following:

Agree with all their accusations about how awful you are and request more "praise and encouragement" along the same lines...since your appetite for abuse has, at that point, merely been whetted... :-)

Presently, they will either get the joke...or they'll go away and find someone else to get righteously angry about.

Do what Jesus did, in other words...turn the other cheek.

Hi, again, Carol. What I was trying to say in my last post is that I had made a generalized statement agreeing with Troll's generalized statement. I didn't mean to target the individuals singled out by DougR, or anyone else. I didn't take notice of who posted the most on Part One of this thread; I just know that it was well over 100 posts, and I got the sense that a lot of the statements made there had already been made on a lot of other political threads.

All I'm saying is that when complaining becomes an end in itself, it's fun but it's not productive.

Hope that's a little more clear (...and now you know how long it takes me to log off and go to the library! *G*). I'm sorry if I offended anyone; it certainly was not my intention to do so.

But I think Troll has a point that "[going] on and on about how ashamed [one] feel[s] about something or keep[s] pointing out the perceived defects of others" slowly evolves from the expression of feelings into the venting of anger and frustration, which is pleasurable. The perversity of that pleasure comes into play when one is satisfied with simply venting one's feelings again and again about the same situation instead of doing anything constructive to change that situation for the better.

SharonA, I think it can sometimes be constructive to express how one feels in this sort of a context as well as in the way that you suggest. We each have to follow our own conscience about that sort of thing.

Since this is near the top I'll go against my better judgement and add something. Personally I'm a bit 'ashamed' that so many folks think there actually IS a Janet (who started the first one) and addressed the obvious long time UK sillycat (who knows what flame buttons to push...just check out the many other anti-yank threads with similar headers) in a serious way.

I LUV the political discussions here, but boy it would be nice to see that kind dry up quickly.

Yes, it had amazing longevity. It is American foreign, domestic, military, and economic policies that are shameful...NOT Americans. Most Americans are simply among the many millions of ordinary people worldwide who are affected adversely by those policies on a regular basis, whether they know it or not.

It's like a Hollywood disaster movie out there...only even stranger than that.
