Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: GUEST,patriot1314 Date: 19 Jun 04 - 05:21 AM I remember England qualifying for the last world cup under the exact same circumstances against Greece as was pointed out earlier in this thread. Also I recall Man U winning the european cup not so long ago in a carbon copy game ie. Getting humped for 90 minutes and getting two very late goals. Strange there's been no mention of either from the English commentators or media! |

Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: Folkiedave Date: 16 Jun 04 - 03:44 PM So good I posted it on the joke thread too!! It's alleged that one of the French football players has failed a drugs and alcohol test yesterday after the match against England. If this is confirmed as positive, under UEFA rules, paragraph 6 sub section 2e, France will forfeit the first group match 3-0. Scroll down for the full transcript of the full report. Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 16 Jun 04 - 12:45 PM Here it is again with better grammar! Villan, the real sinner wasn't Beckham. He was on a hiding to nothing, taking a huge pressure-shot against his ex-ManU-colleague who probably knows his penalty technique better than his PA knows his jock-strap size! The real villain, Villan, is that great useless lummox Heskey. What in hell's name was a gormless cart-horse, whose job is to put the fear of God into the opposing centre-backs in t'other half of the field, doing on the edge of his own box and tackling from behind when two defenders were already chaperoning the French guy out towards the side-line?? Insanity. And equal-second were Gerrard and James. Gerrard for the worst back-pass I've ever seen (even I used to do better than that when I was the reserve defender for Gainsborough Chestnuts), and "Captain Kamikaze" James for a manoeuvre that could only ever have two results (If the ground-mics had been closer we'd probably have heard him screaming "Banzai" as he began his dive)- Henry on the deck and a penalty taken by the best player in the world - when he should have stayed on his feet, made himself big and made Henry work for a result. If those three hadn't committed schoolboy errors, the success or failure of Beckham's penalty would have been totally immaterial. Strollin "Bites Yer Legs" Johnny :0) |

Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: ard mhacha Date: 15 Jun 04 - 10:46 AM Sorry Villian for not answering your question about Stan Lynn, a wee bit of knowledge I will impart. There are a hell of us paddies that have been to more football grounds in England than many a born Brummie and all of the old players would have been as familiar to us as your local supporters. Tim some day I wll devise a football quiz for you, not all about the wee Celts. And don`t all those Englishmen have egg on their face after Henrik`s two magnificent goals, not good enough for the English Premier?, Henrik would grace any league in the world. |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: Rasener Date: 15 Jun 04 - 04:13 AM LOL Stan Lynn was a right back in the late 50's who played for Aston Villa. I believe he holds the record for the most amount of goals scored in a season for a full back. If he had taken the penalty, the french goalkeeper would have gone in the net as well. He must have had the hardest shot in football. |

Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: Big Tim Date: 14 Jun 04 - 12:29 PM Nobody, not even Stan Lynn, whoever he was, could have stopped Zidane'e free kick. It was a masterpiece. OK Beckham pissed a pen: that can happen to anyone. Remember he set up England's goal. Michael Owen was the weakest link. |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: The Shambles Date: 14 Jun 04 - 12:19 PM I'm afraid that takes me back to thinking about PEL issues... Football on tv should be subjected to at least the same conditions as our live music. I have today written to my MP. I have requested that he ask the Minister this. There are powers in the Act that will allow the Secretary of State to introduce this TV pub sport, to require entertainment permission. I really think it is time to do this and try and prevent what is happening now - and before there is a major inccident. The letters that are written making this request, to more difficult it will be for our Government to refuse to.... |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: Sttaw Legend Date: 14 Jun 04 - 05:26 AM The England Football Coach, Sven Goran Ericsson is on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" and has reached the million pound question. Chris Tarrant says "Right Sven, this is for one million pounds, and remember, you still have two lifelines left, so please take your time.' Here's your question: What type of animal lives in a Sett ? Is it... a) a badger b) a ferret c) a mole or d) a cuckoo? Sven ponders for a while and says "No, I'm sorry Chris, I'm not too sure. I'll have to go 50-50." Right, Sven, let's take away two wrong answers and see what you're left with. " Badger" and "Cuckoo" are the two remaining answers. Sven has a long think, then scratches his head and says "No, Chris, I'm still not sure, I'm going to have to phone a friend." So who are you going to call, Sven?" says Chris. Hmmm.. I think I'll call David Beckham." So Tarrant phones David Beckham. "David, this is Chris Tarrant from 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'. I've got Sven Goran Ericsson here, and with your help he could win one million pounds. The next voice you hear will be Sven's". "Hello David" says Sven. "It's the boss here. What type of animal lives in a sett? Is it a badger or a cuckoo?" "It's a badger, boss." says Becks without hesitation. "You sure, son?" says Sven. "Definitely, boss. One hundred per cent. It's a badger. Definitely." "Right, Chris," says Sven, "I'll go with David. The answer's a badger. Final answer. " Sven," says Chris, "That's the correct answer. You've won One Million Pounds!!" Cue wild celebrations. Next morning at training, Sven calls Beckham across. "Son, that was brilliant last night. I thought I might be taking a gamble giving you a call, but you played a blinder! But how the hell did you know that a badger lives in a sett?" Oh... I didn't, boss," replies Beckham, "But everybody knows a cuckoo lives in a clock" |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: GUEST,Jon Date: 14 Jun 04 - 04:44 AM According to this page, there were 83 arrests in England related to the game. I'm afraid that takes me back to thinking about PEL issues... Football on tv should be subjected to at least the same conditions as our live music. Anyway, on to the game... I really do feel disappointed and dissapointed for the team who came close to what I believed would have been a deserved victory or at worst, a draw. All is not lost though and I think if England keep thier heads up, they will still progress in the competition. |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: George Papavgeris Date: 14 Jun 04 - 04:44 AM Truly sorry for England, nasty way to lose a match. Just like Beckham's free kick against Greece in the dying minutes, eh? Only the other way round now. Some things come back to haunt you. Oh well, I still expect to see England in the semis at least. And who knows, with Greece having won their match on Friday... revenge could still be mine - he, he! Dreams cost nothing, right? "Hell Arse" - clap-clap-clap! "Hell Arse" - clap-clap-clap! |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: GUEST Date: 14 Jun 04 - 04:38 AM Rooney looking like a young Zidane? Looking like a young potato as usual....though he did play his socks off. Reckon Nancy was right to sub him tho, as I reckon a main French tactic was to needle him into being sent off. |

Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: The Shambles Date: 14 Jun 04 - 01:55 AM Thing good thing appears to be that the travelling supporters did not create trouble, unlike many so-called fans at home - after watching the game on pub TVs and getting drunk. Rooney was a plus, looking like a young Zidane, but he had done enough by that point and was simply not able to chase and hold the ball up. I think Wolfgang may have a point about the penalty taker. The goal keeper took an (educated) guess and was right. Had he not been well known to the keeper, he may well have guesed wrong. But the French defender (yet another Man Utd player) should have been sent off, as the last man. This should have been a goal and would have changed everything. But this would have made a good final - let us hope that it still may..... |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: GUEST,Seaking Date: 13 Jun 04 - 09:01 PM At this point it would have been nice to be enjoying some consolation from the weekend's Rugby Union Test results. Oh well, there's always Wimbledon and Tim to cheer us all up..... (Good Cricket result though..) |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 13 Jun 04 - 08:41 PM The 'nazi salutes' of a certain secton of the crowd, whilst singing "God Save the Queen"... I thought they had both hands stretched out, in the shot on TV, not just the one. Which would mean they weren't actually "nazi salutes". A penalty that is saved is not the same as a penalty that is missed. That was a bloody good save. |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: Ed. Date: 13 Jun 04 - 07:18 PM The second goal was a penalty. I don't think that you're allowed to have players "on the post" in such situations... |
Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: harvey andrews Date: 13 Jun 04 - 06:50 PM Wolfgang made one of my points. The other is that there should have been at least one player on the post for the French 2nd goal. Both decisions the manager obviously rejected. |

Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: C-flat Date: 13 Jun 04 - 05:35 PM I think Rooney needed to come off before he blew a fuse and got sent off. I agree that he looked our best prospect though. To be fair we were hanging on by the skin of our teeth for a large part of the game. It just seemed more cruel that it all went tits-up in the last few minutes. Both Beckham and Owen were dissapointing when we needed a massive showing from them. |

Subject: RE: BS: England - France From: akenaton Date: 13 Jun 04 - 05:03 PM Sorry for the England team who deserved a draw.
