Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 02 Mar 07 - 06:03 AM It was a simple thing in the end I'm still confused - in the end of what? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 01 Mar 07 - 08:49 AM I sorted it last night. I will demonstrate to Ross next week. Thanks for your help though. It was a simple thing in the end. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 01 Mar 07 - 07:55 AM I'd forgotten about Cathy's question about chords etc. Can you explain it in more detail Cathy, then we might be able to help? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 01 Mar 07 - 06:29 AM Hi Cathie - I think you were the first at work today I was merrily driving through herds of deer in Woburn just before eight I sometimes get the calculator mixed up with the keyboard and wonder why either isn't working I'm measuring a new transformer installation and battery room today Where's that beautiful PA - are you taking me down the pub today? Cathy - no idea how you get to A from way out progression - you need help |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 01 Mar 07 - 05:25 AM Sounds like you had a good one last night at the Bull. 'Twas a good session at our gaff too last night. There were so many people there I only got to do two songs (although I did play with the band too on several tunes). No Buddy Holly or Tom Jones this time though :-) |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 01 Mar 07 - 03:47 AM Cheers Scrump - February's always a tough time to get bums away from comfy chairs in front of televisions I liked the Mastermind sketch where he answered the question after the question asked and the cocktail party sketches - some of the singalongs at the end were good with of course the one 'Brave Sir... ', with the repeating last line - sod off, sod off, sod off, so doff his hat Many thanks to Derek, Yvonne, Rita, Geoff, Davina, another Geoff, Cathy, Bert, MK John, Tony, different Jeff, Keith, Sid, Fred, Eve and Pat It twas an excellent evening of song and tunes (did we really sing the wild rover?) Let's all do it again in March |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 01 Mar 07 - 03:38 AM Morning Wednesday nighters everywhere. Was I the first one at work - 7.50 am, listening to my 'serenity' cd by 8 ? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 28 Feb 07 - 11:43 AM Yes, it was "Sorry", Ross. I didn't think much of the programme, but for some reason that catchphrase (said by RC's 'dad' in the programme) seems to have caught on. I used to like bits of the Two Ronnies, though, especially the fake 'news' items. And some of the musical items were good (see other Mudcat threads for these). And of course sketches like the famous "Four Candles". Not sure I understand the musical problem Cathy - to get from C to Am? Drinking while playing guitar? That would be a dream come true. That's the one downside of playing guitar - you can't drink while doing it. Well, I can't anyway, as I need both hands for playing. I guess I could rig up a pipe to suck the beer through. Hmmm... Maybe I should take up a one-handed instrument like the shakey egg. But singing is another problem. How to drink while doing that? That's the real poser. We've got our session tonight too - hope yours goes well. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 28 Feb 07 - 10:43 AM actually - i will just go c chord, then sneak in a open b string and then I can sing the A. Sometimes sitting with my guitar at the computer, I use the mouse to strum by mistake. I can multi task really. I have a drink in the other hand. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 28 Feb 07 - 10:36 AM Thanks Can't stand Ronnie Corbett. Now - who knows how I can move from a CDBmC chord sequence into start playing Am and singing an A note . ir's hard. preferably no susses, just notes? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 28 Feb 07 - 10:31 AM Okay; can't resist - It was 'Sorry' starring Ronnie Corbett - late 70's ealy 80's Wasn't he Timothy Lumsden the librarian The sit com where Mummy ruled the roost Daddy had retired but wasn't allowed in the house during the day No dentist comment at this time but I did go to college with a chap called Phil McCavity |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 28 Feb 07 - 10:21 AM So it's 3 month check up now at the dentists Scrump? Aye, that's right Cathy - better get 'em checked regularly, you can't be too careful with your teeth, can you? :-) You're wrong about "Language Timothy" - maybe Ross knows though. I'll leave it for him to answer :-) |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 28 Feb 07 - 10:11 AM I bet Ross knows about 'Language Timothy' - was he something to do with Tommy Trinder or another comic. 'oooooohh mother' type of humour. .....Handley? My brain is trying to tell me something. pass. So it's 3 month check up now at the dentists Scrump? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 28 Feb 07 - 09:58 AM I've broken me pluckin' nails I say Cathy, there's no need for that kind of language. I would have said "Language, Timothy!" but for the fact that (a) your name isn't Timothy and (b) no-one would know what the heck I was talking about. Tamazepan - is that what you get in Christmas cakes? Sorry to hear about all the dental disasters. I'm a coward when it comes to dentists (especially the dreaded drill... aiiiieeeeeeeee!), and I've sometimes gone for years at a time without going to them. I use the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" principle when it comes to me teeth - but I was forced to go when I broke some last year at a barn dance gig when I crunched some cracking crackling from the hog roast. Luckily my new dentist is a very pleasant young blonde lady who makes the dreaded experience more pleasant that it would otherwise be. Not that her gender, age or hair colour have anything to do with it, of course. It's just that she has a nice chairside manner :-) |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 28 Feb 07 - 09:43 AM Sorry to hear your bad news PA. I bet you are a strong support for Lucy. See you at The Bull tonight Ross and all. I've broken me pluckin' nails - I should keep off the housework. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 28 Feb 07 - 04:20 AM Hi PA - I was very sad to read your thread Some things in life can be quite impossible to comprehend and come to terms with Chin up (if possible) and todays another sunrise |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 28 Feb 07 - 03:33 AM Morning boys and girls. Sittin at me desk with a house brick in my cheek - or at least thats what it feels like. No pain from the actual filling just from having my mouth stretched to three times its size. My dentist said it was the most awkward one he's ever done. Top back tooth, and apparantely I have a very small mouth - husband does not agree. However for the sad part, this time last week we rushed down the M5 and M50 at 7 in the morning to take my best friends horse to the horsie hospital for emergency surgery. Maggie the horse was in theatre for 4 hours and had 8 ft of intestine removed. After a week of hoping and praying that everything would be OK, yesterday afternoon Mags had decided she'd had enough and laydown. The vets gave my friend Lucy the call and she drove down to Tewkesbury to sit with her horse while they put her to sleep. Maggie was a beautiful white Connemara aged 15 and Lucy had owned her all her life. We're all very sad, and my silly old horse Red is wondering where his 'wife' has gone. Red and Maggie had been together for at least 12 years. Sorry to depress you all, I will be quiet today. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 27 Feb 07 - 06:21 PM post 99 - I have never known much about my root canal fillings. I didn't realise that was what was happening around me. I take 3 Tamazepan tablets, as many numbing injections as the dentist wants to use up, twilight dream through the whole procedure, then sit up, crack stupid jokes to the poor dental nurse like I am drunk, walk perfectly well down 3 flights of stairs, get a lift home from hubby saying yes to whatever he wants to spend on fishing trips and equipment, sleep, wake up with a cracking headache, drink water and have boiled egg and marmite poppets, go back to bed and the next day all is 100 percent fine. How was it for you PA? |

Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 27 Feb 07 - 07:21 AM Yes Cathy, I believe we will be at the Bucks Head on Saturday 17th March, playing tunes and singing songs between drinking pints of Guinness :-) Yes, I thought someone mentioned putting a video of Sunday's gig on Youtube, but I wasn't sure if that was a joke or not (it would be rather long). I was hoping they would put it onto a DVD that we could buy. Maybe they were just recording it for their own use though (i.e. Maureen and Keiron)? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 27 Feb 07 - 07:07 AM THANKS ROSS YOU'VE FILLED ME WITH CONFIDENCE !!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 27 Feb 07 - 05:52 AM Commiserations PA. Dentists are nightmare scenarios. WLTM? what's that Ross. I give up so easily at times. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 27 Feb 07 - 05:40 AM Tooth hurty Depends on what they are doing If they are doing root canal work it normally involves removing all the nerve endings within the tooth, so if you have further problems there is no pain I've had loads taken out, so when my fillings fall to bits, which they often do, I don't get any pain It's not too painful if they numb the gums properly It can get a bit physical as they manipulate the drills to the mine face - the dentist normally has to stand on the chair arm with the Nurse supporting his crutch and a simple pulley from the ceiling bears the weight Toffee is a no no anyway - what about your figure? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 27 Feb 07 - 04:56 AM Morning Campers. I'm going to the dentist today. I have to have a root canal something or other. Whats one of those. Will I be able to eat toffee after. Had to go the Dental hospital in Brum on Saturday morning where they took x rays and tutted alot. I have a collapsed filling and a crack. I tried to make an appointment with my dentist yesterday but they only have two emergency appointments per week, one today and one friday. When I asked yesterday if i could make the appointment for today she said no I had to call on the 'emergency appointment day' for an emergency appointment. There are no emergencies on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays - or Saturdays and Sundays - everyone has perfect teeth on those days. My appointment is at 2.30 I didnt get the joke till after everyone in the office. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 27 Feb 07 - 04:20 AM Hi Cathy - Yes, in theory it is possible for Bert to be attacked by the Winkwell killer ducks They would have to swim up to Leighton Buzzard where the river Ouzel feeds the canal, switch to the river and then swim down to the River Ouse north of Milton Keynes, then swim down river via Bedford/Pizza Hut to Bert's steamer anchored in St Neots Bay Or they could fly, using Ryan Airs, Winkwell to St Neots daily shuttle Did you know Anglo Saxons where only called that because they where Saxons from Germany living in England - They hated anglos and wouldn't even have sex with them - some historians reckoned they invited apartheid - but who knows? How do you find out if ones life is out of tune - folkie WLTM It's Barton Folk this Wednesday - 28th Bebludy |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 26 Feb 07 - 02:31 PM What a long day. 3 octaves at least. Thanks for the update Scrump - my computer says St Patrick's night is a Saturday, so no clash with Barton there. Did I hear someone say they would post the video of Sunday at Hitchin on U tube? I can't even find George Papavgeris on there. Ross - I don't know anything about a wiggly worm. I know even less about the geography of canals. I was fearing a Geography lesson when I logged on. Thanks for not highlighting my ignorance. I was trying to find out about Anglo-Saxons today - seems deadly boring. 'Don't know much about History, Don't know much Geography' la la la I fear running off round the world, carrying bags, drinks and tennis balls isn't going to move you up a key in the slightest. Think of the Killer Sharks. Or could this be a prelude to a World Tour? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 26 Feb 07 - 08:38 AM Hi Cathy, Ross and all of you The JC gig (oops, that's Johnny Cash, not that other famous person with the same initials you mentioned at Hitchin, Cathy) at Wymondley turned out to be great fun. Angela (a Baldock regular) and some friends turned up to celebrate her birthday, and later in the evening we ended up playing stuff by Buddy Holly, Elvis and even Tom Jones, at their request! I'm not sure how it happened, and we didn't know most of the words but that didn't seem to matter. Everyone had a good time which was the main thing. We (Tam Lin) have a gig there on St Patrick's night 17th March. I'm not sure who's on between now and then, but if I find out I'll let you know. Our Sat JC gig went OK, but the pub wasn't particularly busy. Not quite so enjoyable as Friday's but OK. Yes, we saw you last night Cathy but didn't manage to speak to you. I agree, it went more quickly than any other evening there I can remember. What a fab performance from them all - individually, in various combinations, and as a group. Difficult to imagine a better evening than that! |

Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 26 Feb 07 - 06:35 AM Hi Caramel Cathy How's life this sunny Monday The Folkaholics frolics at the Three Horseshoes went well Many thanks to Nick Male and company and John Dun with dropped D The swim was cancelled due to killer ducks I suppose we didn't come up to Hitchin's night of the stars? How was Johnny Cash - the legend continues? It's Barton folk this Wednesday - come and waggle your doodley 40 years - crikey |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 25 Feb 07 - 07:33 PM Hi Musical Marshmellows I am sorry to have missed you Scrump on Friday. Do post again another time that you are gigging at Wymondley - it is very near me. As for the Folkaholics - I hope you took some pictures of the swimming. Did you use the camper van like a Victorian bathing hut-thing? Was Jasper Carrott there on his way to make a surprise appearance at Hitchin Folk Club tonight? After a few jokes, he went and joined the audience apparently. It was a lovely celebration night for Maureen who has run the club for 40 years. Chris and Kelly While, Julie Matthews, Helen Watson and Christine Collister appeared. Simply excellent - the evening wizzed by. What did you think Scrump? You could be the musical reporter today if you like. So - last question - who would be a suitable surprise guest at Barton when we celebrate Ross running the club for 40 years? Discuss. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 25 Feb 07 - 07:37 AM Blimey - well I never did? Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 23 Feb 07 - 04:02 AM Glad everyone's gigs have gone well, and pleased to hear George is still spreading himself about a bit and getting better known. Apologies for mentioning this, if it clashes with any other gigs I've forgotten about, but Alan and I will be doing a gig at the Bucks Head, Little Wymondley, tonight, starting at 8:30 (we'll probably do a few different things first for about half an hour, before the legendary Johnny Cash makes an appearance). We will be doing a very similar gig tomorrow night at the Wheatsheaf, Eaton Socon (I believe that's near St Neots, up the A1). Both events are, naturally, free. So if anyone has nowt better to do and is near either event, please drop in and say hello. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 23 Feb 07 - 03:34 AM Morning All George was brilliant, absolutely bloody brilliant. The room was full and I'm just about to message him to thank him for a great night. Did a song about the last nail maker in Bromsgrove, Charlie Troth, which of course went down very well with the locals. Bromsgrove was of course the centre of the nail making industry, the actual saying was that Bromsgrove made the nails that held the world together. There history lesson over for the day. Have a good one. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 22 Feb 07 - 08:24 PM Hi there. PA - I hope you enjoyed George. I went to Winkwell to hear the Folkaholics and Dave. They were on form as usual. Then the flippin slip road onto the motorway was closed and the diversion seemed to be sending me back to the pub again. I had visions of knocking on Martin's camper van window and asking for a bed for the night. |

But modesty forbids, so I won't :D But I hope it's OK to mention that Alan and I will be doing two 'Johnny Cash' gigs this Friday and Saturday: - Friday 23rd at the Bucks Head, Little Wymondley (free entry) - Saturday 24th at the Wheatsheaf, Eaton Socon (up the A1 near St Neots) - also free entry. You should read 'The Lock-keepers Daughter' cant remember her name now, wonderful story about growing up on the canal, even more interesting for us up here cos she lived at Tardebigge. Sorry I thought Cathie said 'resurfaced' thought she was taking about road works not JB. Maybe he has been resurfaced. |

It's open mic at the Bull in Barton tomorrow - Wednesday - 21st Normally a mix of morris tunes and heavy metal guitar Also the 21st - Some brilliant things on at Bedford Folk club (Daleys) and Baldock Folk Club (Orange Tree) but I'm not going to tell you all; cos I can't go |

Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 19 Feb 07 - 05:37 AM Hi Cathy - yes, it all went very well at Hitchin - it was in the market square Lots of activity and a childrens ride with ducks, giraffes, fire engines etc - we were tempted to sing on the ride We were squeezed a bit by the jazz band and an opera singer but we managed to do half an hour in the sunshine between 1pm and 2pm It was a lovely day - I was sitting in the sunshine in me jumper (plus trousers) A couple of beers afterwards at the Sunrunner I was saddened to hear that Steph from the Blue Anchor sessions had died just before Christmas - I liked her and her poems a lot Life passes us by sometimes |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 18 Feb 07 - 04:52 PM Sorry PA, as I am standing buttering yet another hot cross bun and wondering why I am eating this, a thought has just come into my head - that I need to explain that Rhythyms of the World is a festival that takes place every summer in Hitchin. Crowds mill about and stages are set up around and about the town. One place where you can listen to performers, is........ you've guessed it......... Hitchin market square. BTW I don't have any folkie long skirts, but I do have a Rhythyms of the World long black swaying skirt fit for purpose. It's well-known among female friends. Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 15 Feb 07 - 07:29 AM I'm not sure Ross, but Mrs Scrump might know. I'll ask her and report back. They usually do have a pancake race, but whether it's on Saturday or Tuesday I don't know. I thought they had it on Tuesday though. When you say 'we' Ross, who's that - are you playing in a band or what? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 15 Feb 07 - 06:00 AM No - it's the Donkey Support Agency I thought your posts were excellent PA - take a lunch break down the pub - does crime really pay (and if so -what are the hours)? I'm measuring radon barriers/trestle runs and damp proof courses today Not easy, as I'm tired Scrump - not sure what it's about Saturday but we are performing alongside a jazz band - is there a pancake tossing do dah/or race in Hitchin market square Saturday? |

Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 14 Feb 07 - 04:29 AM Morning World I am glad you liked the photos Ross. If I had sent the video clip of the surfers, it sounds like Biggleswade could have been under siege! ( if that's how you say it ) . Lesson learnt. I am off to Lewisham today - it' s all compass points from Stevenage this week. Not sure whether I can make it tonight - will try - I need to find my weekly anchor point in this turbulent world. |

Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 13 Feb 07 - 09:34 AM Sorry no Disney characters, but plenty of jokers. Patsy Palmer (Bianca from EastEnders) actually said she fell asleep at one point and sat writing poems on another occassion. The one I'm most impressed with is the bass guitarist from Blur. He's really got his thinking head on. Whats the shuttleworth collection, a collection of shuttlecocks? What do they grow in a Swiss garden, gnomes or cheese. Oh and Mexican sandwich makers. Is that a sandwich maker from Mexico, or an ordinary sandwich maker which produces mexican sandwiches? You lead a very exotic life over in Bedfordshire. Can you tell my directors are at a board meeting in Portugal? We just had a brill idea, we're going to put a sign in the office window saying that we're being held hostage. See how long it takes a passerbye to notice. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 13 Feb 07 - 09:11 AM Hi PA - yes, we have an aerodrome at Old Warden and the Shuttleworth Collection with lots of bi-planes and would be Biggles - they have air shows in the summer; and there's lots of tea and cake and ladies in big hats saying 'up the Biggleswade' and a Swiss Garden where Mexican sandwich makers breed Talking about difficulties with grasping reality from fiction - I think I'd struggle with the Verdict Are there any Disney characters on the Jury - Donald Duck? I bet Cathy's watching it - Cathy; you've clogged up me email with photos and I can't read all me other emails until I get on Broadband tomorrow - Grrrrrrrrrr - I'm on a dinosaur line today |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 13 Feb 07 - 05:43 AM I think Biggleswade is a brill name. Do the residents wear goggles, flying jackets, and resemble Eric Morcambe with his sticking out scarf. (Only people of a certain age will have any clue what I'm taking about.) Verdict - the jury is made up of 'well known' people, the barristers are genuine as is the judge and the court officials. The courtroom is also genuine, the only actors are the girls accusing the footballers of rape, and the footballers. Its being filmed as a real court case, and following the lines of a genuine case. I'm not sure if its good viewing, but its certainly interesting if you've never been in a court at all, just to see how things work. The jury are filmed in their room debating the case, as a jury would, and its interesting to hear their opinions changing with each piece of evidence they get. (except Stan Collymore, who decided she was a slapper and got what she deserved, from day one). The problem is with these things, once you start watching its becomes quite adictive. Tonight and tomorrow to go. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 13 Feb 07 - 05:08 AM No, I'm not watching the Verdict - is that the thing with Jeffrey Archer in it being a juror? Are convicted criminals allowed to serve on a jury? I agree with you too Ross :-) |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 13 Feb 07 - 04:56 AM It's very sunny here in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire this morning Clear sky No, I'm not watching the Verdict - is that the thing with Jeffrey Archer in it being a juror? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 13 Feb 07 - 04:46 AM Bournemouth sounded fantastic, highly recommended. Anyone watching The Verdict? Stan is looking worried. Brill sunny day in Worcestershire. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 13 Feb 07 - 03:59 AM Is that the answer to the meaning of life? - I thought it was 42 How did Hamlet know Yorak used to wear a wig Toupee or not toupee - that is the question I agree with Scrump |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 12 Feb 07 - 04:42 PM Bournemouth was a good day, especially on the beach - exhilarating walk, sunny weather and the sound of crashing waves - what life is all about. surfers by the pier, amusements still take 2p coins, no paddling |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 12 Feb 07 - 10:21 AM You know when the brain police tell you not to go out unless its essential - what exactly is your interpretation of that...??? My interpretation of that is, if there's a folk session on, or if you've run out of ale :-) |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 12 Feb 07 - 10:14 AM Hi there snowballers !! Yes Worcestershire was quite dramatic last week but its all gone now. Ha 5 mins of fame indeed. It was all very glam got me diamante wellies and me best shovel out, hair and make up done and did some dramatic sliding just in case we got noticed. Then husband told me to get of the sledge and let the kids have a go. Village got almost cut off by abandond cars one of which belonged to the husband had to tow him back down the road to the house. All very embarrasing. You know when the brain police tell you not to go out unless its essential - what exactly is your interpretation of that, does it mean going to visit auntie, or a trip to the dump, or actually going to work? I'm never sure if you're supposed to be in or out ??? |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Ross Date: 12 Feb 07 - 06:05 AM Morning back Mam and one and all How was Bournemouth - did you go for a paddle? It's a folk week this Wednesday at the Bull All welcome I was thinking of you last week PA - I saw Worcestershire on the News lots of times It must have been hard getting about with all those TV crews filming you Did you glam up and remember your shovel? |

Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 09 Feb 07 - 04:14 AM Gosh Scrump you really know loads of important stuff. Personally I'd rather have a mars bar, but cant cos choc gives me migraine. So, I take me migraine stuff and then have the choc - usually works OK! Careful on those slippery bits. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 09 Feb 07 - 04:06 AM Isnt KMC what you take on long cold journeys in frozen temperatures? Dont know what you're supposed to do with it? eat it? rub it on your cold bits or stuff it in your boots - someone at work mentioned it. Thought I'd just pass the advice for those venturing out in these very dangerous conditions. Oh the snow? its all gone! There's plenty round where I live (N Herts). The roads seem mostly OK now though, apart from where I live where they were still treacherously slippery this morning. As for KMC, I suppose you could try rubbing it on your cold bits (ooerr missus!) or stuff it in your boots, but it probably wouldn't do you much good. It's a sort of sugary peppermint stuff, that you eat. It comes in bars a bit like bars of chocolate - in fact you can get the chocolate covered version, which is much nicer (slurp!). I think it was taken by climbers in the Lake District (and further afield, like Everest!) as part of their emergency rations, for energy (from the sugar content, mainly). |

Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Cathie Date: 08 Feb 07 - 05:32 AM And it's snowing on and off in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. Children are sledging, buses are ploughing on and being very patient. The learner drivers, usually in threes down my road, seem to have disappeared. The weather girls are delighted and relieved that their forecast has come true. Nobody seemed to think they were going to work today at The Bull last night. To sum up there are three camps of opinion - the goback to beds, the excited about making snowmen enthusiasts, and the 'it wasn't like this when I was a child, I walked 3 miles to school in two feet of snow' voice. Take care PA getting home and remember - wrap up warm, take a shovel, drive slowly, comfort blanket, etc etc. We news people have to tell the public this information because people NEED us and they can't think for themselves. |
Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: The PA Date: 08 Feb 07 - 03:24 AM Greetings from snowy Worcestershire. Getting on for a good 6 inches of snow and more forcast. Took me 35 mins to do 2 miles, husband has done his usual 80 miles to JBC and it took him 10 mins longer than usual.!!! But I think I may get home faster than him. Take care all if you're out in the weather. And now back to Cathie in the news room. |

Subject: RE: Feb 07 at the Bull, Barton-in-mud, Beds From: Scrump Date: 06 Feb 07 - 11:07 AM The Folk Police? Look out, here they come! I can hear their bells rattling on their uniforms. Is that a h'electrical guitar? Whack fol the daddy-o." "Well, it's electro-acoustic, actually, I..." "So, it's h'electric - not a proper folk guitar then. Do you realise that's an offence?
