Subject: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: GUEST,amergin Date: 12 Nov 10 - 07:35 PM I just watched Peter Yarrow on a local program, here in Portland. Apparently, he's in town for some children's thing. Anyway, he looked really old. I know he is up there in the years, but he did not look healthy, he was skinny, weak in appearance. In fact, when he sang or talked he sounded rather feeble, it gave the impression of him being older than he is. It makes me wonder if something's up, healthwise. Does anyone know anything about that? |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 12 Nov 10 - 07:58 PM Earlier this year a polyp was found when he had a colonoscopy. He even wrote a song about it and it can be found at YouTube. Could not find further information Googling. We can only hope it was indeed removed early enough, and that he is and will be okay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqvpfrnmJrg |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: GUEST Date: 12 Nov 10 - 08:00 PM Give the guy a break ... he is approaching 80 ... and surpassed the promised three score and ten.

Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Nov 10 - 08:18 PM Hey, Garg, the guy is 72 years old. Is that "approaching 80"? Peter Yarrow has always been slight of stature, and he has seemed a little frail the last few years. By the way, both of the people who posted above you are from the US. -Joe- ...and while we're speaking of colonoscopies, take a listen to the Colo-Rectal Surgeon Song. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: SylviaN Date: 12 Nov 10 - 09:37 PM Guest, I'm from the UK and, to answer your question why we might be interested in Peter Yarrow. Great person, great musician who has given us, and the world, many hours of pleasure in what is, sometimes, a difficult place to live, lifting spirits and, also, making us think. Not something everyone has achieved. Cheers Sylvia |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Rapparee Date: 12 Nov 10 - 10:27 PM Music is universal. Peter Yarrow writes great music. QED. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Genie Date: 12 Nov 10 - 10:32 PM What Sylvia and Rapparee said. And, GUEST, the "promised three score and ten" is probably a figure derived by averaging in all the people who die in infancy, childhood, and at other times due to things having nothing to do with age. If you're alive and healthy at 50, your life expectancy is probably considerably longer than 20 more years. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Rapparee Date: 12 Nov 10 - 10:49 PM Also, Guest, just to point out that which is obvious -- the Mudcat Cafe is hosted in Pennsylvania, USA. There are members from around the world, including places like Ghana, Singapore and Australia. It is not US-centric, UK-centric, or anything other than music-centric (although it might not look like it at times). |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Amergin Date: 12 Nov 10 - 11:02 PM No, if it's centric anything it's EC-centric....Also, he does look alot older than 72. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Genie Date: 13 Nov 10 - 01:40 AM Where? In that Colonoscopy Song video he doesn't to me. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Genie Date: 13 Nov 10 - 01:46 AM Here's an article about Peter's Oct. 7, 2010 free children's concert at The Monkey And The Rat which is owned by his son Christopher. DK if the accompanying photo is current, but in it he doesn't look different, age-wise, from most of the other folkie guys (or other guys) I know who are in the 65-75 y o range. But if he's lost a lot of weight recenty, maybe from a cancer treatment, that might well make his face look older. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Deda Date: 13 Nov 10 - 05:32 PM The "promised" three score years and ten is Old Testament. Promised by God, after some human transgressions, post Methuselah, such that human lifespans were being cut down -- rather like having to toil and experience pain after being kicked out of Eden. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: GUEST,anon Date: 14 Nov 10 - 11:24 PM Hey, fair enough question, but don't jump to conclusions. Peter has always "burned the candle at both ends," staying on the road 25 days a month, flying between time zones, staying up late, and getting up early. He's always been able to function on very little sleep, sneaking in his "power naps" when he needs them. Most of us lose the stamina to keep those kind of hours in our 20's or 30's. He's still trying to keep his normal pace; maybe age is finally showing. I saw him last month and thought he looked fine. His energy levels may fluctuate more than they did years ago, but he's still a joy to watch. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Genie Date: 14 Nov 10 - 11:34 PM Glad to hear that, "anon." |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? From: Arkie Date: 15 Nov 10 - 12:55 PM About ten years ago Peter Yarrow and his daughter Bethany gave a concert at the Folk Center in Mountain View during the annual Folk Festival. In my 30 years at the Folk Center no one ever did more to promote a concert than Peter. We had access to Peter and his personal office as well as the booking agency, he did telephone interviews, and when we arrived in town from the airport we drove through the town square where the most action from the festival was occurring and he got out of the car, mixed with the crowd and did a short impromptu set on the outside stage. He even invited a youngster around ten years old who he met and jammed with on the square to perform with him on the evening concert stage. I was certainly gratified to find that someone I admired as an artist was also a practical and gracious person. The concert with Peter and Bethany and Rufus was also one of the best concerts I have ever experienced. I am not surprised at all that people care about Peter Yarrow. I hope that his health is strong and he can keep on gracing people's lives. |

Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? + 2024 update From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 03 Dec 24 - 10:33 AM It seems, from the preceding, that the end is near. The end of an era. I hope he isn't suffering greatly during his passage over the threshold. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? + 2024 update From: keberoxu Date: 08 Dec 24 - 04:53 PM IF you follow Joe Offer's link and then link to Peter Yarrow's webpages, the latest post is Noel Paul Stookey, reading to Peter from his autobiography about how the three of them met and started singing together. It's charming, and there's a touching photograph of Peter and Noel Paul together. |
Subject: RE: Is Peter Yarrow Sick? + 2024 update From: GUEST Date: 19 Dec 24 - 05:16 PM According to Noel he has inoperable bladder cancer. |
