Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Big Mick Date: 25 Apr 04 - 10:00 PM Not to early to start planning. Save those pennies, this one sounds like it is shaping up to be the best one yet. Mick |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: karen k Date: 25 Apr 04 - 11:52 PM Wouldn't miss it. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: SINSULL Date: 26 Apr 04 - 09:05 AM Read Kendall's post carefully. He says he's getting "exited" not excited. Must have had his mind on his upcoming trip. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 26 Apr 04 - 09:40 AM Or perhaps Kendall's thinking about pulling a Jeri on the way to or from the Getaway... Nancy (running for cover....) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Susan A-R Date: 26 Apr 04 - 10:03 PM Yes! It is beginning to look like I may not be able to make Old Songs, so this is looking better and better (although MUCH too far away. Can't we do two getaways a year??? she whined) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 27 Apr 04 - 12:29 PM I've looked through this thread from end to end, and looked at the Getaway site, but find no (even approximate) figure for cost. I realize that it may be that final fees can't be set until they are closer to the actual event, but can someone give me at least approximate costs from previous years? I would probably be attending with my Beautiful Wife. I am not an FSGW member. Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,MMario Date: 27 Apr 04 - 12:55 PM (very) roughly $175 per person. I could be off $25 either way I'm sure - that's figuring the whole shebang Fri-sat-sun nights and meals saturday, sunday plus monday breakfast (friday night is a pot luck) - if my memory is correct. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Big Mick Date: 27 Apr 04 - 01:24 PM That is about right, MMario. I thought it was $161.00. Figure $175.00 for planning purposes. All meals are included. Mick |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: beardedbruce Date: 27 Apr 04 - 01:44 PM To Uncle DaveO ( and any others) When the price is determined consider joining FSGW- you will get a reduction in the getaway cost (perhaps enough to cover membership), as well as the newsletter mailed to you. If you can get to the DC area, you might also enjoy the 10 concerts that are free to members. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: George Papavgeris Date: 04 May 04 - 06:53 PM Is there room for a fat bloke and his diminutive better one-third? Vanessa and I are planning to come. We will have to travel on the 15th, as I have a gig on the 14th (likely to be the 5th album launch, as it is scheduled to be released in October). How do we get there? Which airport do we fly to? Baltimore? and is there public transport from there to the camp? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 04 May 04 - 08:41 PM Hi, El Greko, glad you can make it! There's always room for more! Yes, Baltimore is the airport to fly into; it's definitely the closest. There is no public transportation to the camp from there, but as we get closer to the time, post your arrival time and indicate that you need a ride from BWI to the camp. Somebody will be able to pick you up. Looking forward to meeting you! Nancy |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: beardedbruce Date: 04 May 04 - 09:05 PM Gee, should we look into a bus from BWI to the getaway? Might be the best way.... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: beardedbruce Date: 13 May 04 - 12:40 AM So, who else needs a ride, and when do you get in? ( have to plan this early!) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Noreen Date: 13 May 04 - 07:45 AM George, you will have the most wonderful time, with the most wonderful people- I guarantee it. Folks- you really want to meet and hear this man. :0) Oh to be there too! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 13 May 04 - 09:02 AM I have every confidence you'll make it back again, Noreen..*smile*...and we look forward to El Greco---there seems to be no end of good singers and all-'round good people from "over there". |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Catherine Jayne Date: 13 May 04 - 09:07 AM Been looking at flights over...can get some really good deals depending on where you fly into! Can get a BA flight for about £200....will be booking our flights soon!!!! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: George Papavgeris Date: 24 May 04 - 12:44 PM OK, it's final - I am coming (minus Vanessa though, logistics at home don't permit it). I arrive at BWI on Friday 15 Oct at 16:15, so by the time I clear customs etc I should be out of the terminal around 17:30 or so, I guess. Beardedbruce, will there be any transport organised to the camp, or should I grab a cab (estimated cost?)? One more thing: Do I need to apply formally to someone/somewhere? Or is this declaration of my intention sufficient? And how/to whom do I pay my dues for the weekend and how much is it? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: beardedbruce Date: 24 May 04 - 01:21 PM Cab would be outrageous!. We need to get organized on this, though- nothing set up yet, but we should be able to arrange things. Applications? Not sure- I get mine in the FSGW newsletter. Check with Rita, she might know the proper way for those overseas to register. See you there! ( or at the airport, depending) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: beardedbruce Date: 24 May 04 - 04:53 PM (sorry, Rita, if this is a problem) Perhaps I need to start a list- Can people coming in to BWI let me know when, how many people, and about how much "stuff", so I can try to match up with rides, or try to arrange a bus? Not sure who should take care of this, so... I guess I volunteer. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Charlie Baum Date: 24 May 04 - 04:54 PM The precise costs are still being decided. (There are probably adjustments for people who come only part of the time and daytrippers, reflecting the cost of the camp rental more accurately.) But the costs for full-timers will be similar to previous years (ranging from $130-$170 U.S. dollars, depending on whether or not you're a member of FSGW and whether or not you stay over for Monday breakfast, with price-breaks for youngsters and full-time students). As soon as that's all decided, the registration form (what El Greko calls the application form above) will be created. It'll be printed in the FSGW newsletter, but a copy will be downloadable from the web in .pdf format, and everyone at Mudcat will know about it. (There will be an announcement either in this thread of some successor thread). Last year, an FSGW member with a British chequeing account made it possible for some people to pay in British pounds sterling. We'll see what we can do this year, if enough people need foreign money exchange. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: beardedbruce Date: 24 May 04 - 04:58 PM Thank you, Charlie. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Jeri Date: 24 May 04 - 05:12 PM Maybe there could be a sign-up sheet somewhere. Rides needed (when, from where, etc) and volunteers (who, and maybe what their car and they look like ("I'm 50-ish, balding, and I have a beer belly and a beard." Haha.*) Dear El, Rita or Charley or someone usually posts information about the application when the time is right. If the rumors I've heard about you here are even halfway true, I'm going to enjoy meeting you, and hearing you sing. * No, That doesn't describe me currently. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: beardedbruce Date: 24 May 04 - 05:19 PM It certainly does NOT! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Susan A-R Date: 24 May 04 - 10:19 PM Hot Damn! There are now cheap flights from Burlington VT to Dullas. Is this also a reasonable possibility, or should I still get my sorry butt to Manchester NH and fly into BWI with all of the rest? It adds about $50 to the cost to bus down there, but if that's the better locale, I'll do it. Just sent in my registration for Old Songs and am planning a music weekend as well. This is too much happieness. Susan |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Midchuck Date: 24 May 04 - 10:27 PM Oh, I don't think it's "sorry." Maybe not as tight as a teenager's, but whose the hell is? Peter (Well, you brought it on yourself. Someone was bound to use that opportunity.) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Susan A-R Date: 24 May 04 - 10:42 PM Ah you just haven't seen it lately. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 24 May 04 - 11:04 PM well, Dulles is over an hour further away than BWI, and on a Friday afternoon that could stretch to 2 hrs...distances are deceiving when moving in Washington beltway and I-95 traffic. I live only 1½ hrs or so from the camp, and **I** leave early to miss Friday traffic. I could probably pick up someone at BWI if they arrive there by 3PM or so....but don't even ask me to backtrack to Dulles...*grin* (I bring a lot of 'stuff', including crafts, so I need extra time to unload and get set up, and Rita is program chair....so we tend to be among the first arrivals) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Charlie Baum Date: 25 May 04 - 12:16 AM Curiously enough, the Philadelphia airport (PHL) is probably closer to Camp Ramblewood than Dulles (IAD). (Not that getting a ride from PHL to Darlington is going to be easy.) But it IS another airport to look at, in case you get bargain flights there. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Dani Date: 25 May 04 - 07:46 AM I'll be driving right by BWI, can arrange the time to suit flyers on that Friday. Assuming Janie's coming with, we'll have room for one other and their stuff, or two with not much stuff. Charlie's right about PHL: it's a zippy on and off of 95 for those coming from the North. Dani |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: George Papavgeris Date: 25 May 04 - 08:13 AM Dibs on the space in Dani's car! Dani, I should have a guitar, a small bag for the weekend and possibly a sleeping bag. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: kendall Date: 27 May 04 - 03:49 AM Folks, it may be a bit premature, but my voice seems to be coming back. Been to a couple of parties this month and was able to do some singing. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Ellenpoly Date: 27 May 04 - 04:39 AM This is wonderful news, Kendall. I'll be sending you healing thoughts towards a solid recovery and a future filled with songs!..xx..e |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Carly Date: 28 May 04 - 05:09 PM Oh, Kendall, what great news! If our paths don't cross before, I'll look forward to seeing, and hearing, you at the Getaway. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Susan A-R Date: 28 May 04 - 08:29 PM What great news! Yet another thing to look forward to at Old Songs. (and the Getaway, by which time it should be completely recovered) On, and I guess the sorry butt will have to get to Manchester NH after all. BWI it is. Susan |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bobert Date: 28 May 04 - 08:53 PM Bill D: Please PM me 3 weeks before Getaway to remind my sorry self to come... Like how about accomodations? They got cabins? Place to pitch a tent? Motels that need to be booked 6 months in advance? Er' what? Howa about food and porti-johns and all that stuff? Like will there be any performances and if so, how do I get slotted? Bobert |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Alaska Mike Date: 28 May 04 - 09:46 PM Great news Kendall. It will be great to hear you sing again. Tawmmie has agreed to let me go even though she won't be able to attend herself. And George, I can't wait to meet you too and swap some original songs with you. My plans are not yet finalized, but here is a rough estimate. I'm going to be flying into Newark airport on 10/13. Then spending the 14th with my daughter who has recently accepted a directing internship with the McCarter Theater in Princeton. I will be driving the rental car from Princeton to Darlington on the morning of the 15th and should have room for a fellow traveler or 2. I plan to leave The Getaway late Monday morning 10/18 and drive back to Princeton for another day with my daughter before heading back to Newark and boarding a return flight to Anchorage on the 20th. I am really looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. If I can assist anyone to get there or back home please let me know. I can always use a harmony singer while driving. Mike |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: beardedbruce Date: 29 May 04 - 11:08 AM great to hear you will be there- but too bad it can't be both of you. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Phot Date: 30 May 04 - 02:08 AM After sitting down and working things out, I can afford to make it.... Unfortunatly, work has put me on a course at that time and I can't get the time off. Bugger! Ah well, theres allways next year. Wassail! Chris |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: kendall Date: 30 May 04 - 07:15 AM Mike, without Tawmmie, what are you going to do if you forget the words? Also, does this mean we can go ahead with the drunken orgy? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Alaska Mike Date: 30 May 04 - 10:11 AM Kendall, what do you mean IF I forget the words? Isn't that how the "folk" process works? The singer can't remember the correct lyrics so he invents new ones. And I told you not to mention the drunken orgy. By the way, which cabin will that be in again? Lyrics aren't the only things I forget. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 30 May 04 - 11:56 AM I am in awe, Kendall & Mike.....the more *I* drink, the less I orgy!....but I can forget as well as ANY of you! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: kendall Date: 30 May 04 - 12:37 PM Forget what Bill? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: karen k Date: 30 May 04 - 02:03 PM Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Alaska Mike, back again! That's great. Will miss Tawmmie, though. Now if only the Shellbacks could all come back it would be perfect. But we do get Morticia back and some other good, new folk, so I can't wait!!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: beardedbruce Date: 31 May 04 - 08:09 AM There will always be old friends to miss, and new one to get to know. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,MMario Date: 24 Jun 04 - 03:24 PM refreshing for particular reasons. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Catherine Jayne Date: 24 Jun 04 - 04:24 PM Just looking into flights. We can get a return flight for £380 with Britsh Airways. Im two minds....do I wait to see if I can get a cheaper flight in a couple of months or do you think this is low a price as I am likely to get?? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,MMario Date: 24 Jun 04 - 04:29 PM if fuel prices do what some predict - I doubt there will be cheaper flights. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Alaska Mike Date: 25 Jun 04 - 12:09 AM Ok, time passes and plans change. My son and his family recently moved to Traverse City, Michigan and my daughter is moving to Princeton, New Jersey in August. I would like to visit them both while I am back east. I am planning to fly into Newark on 10/13, but since I will not be returning the rental car to the same airport, renting a car is too expensive. I plan to take the train to Princeton, and spend the 14th with my daughter. I will require transportation assistance. First, I need a ride from Princeton to Darlington on or about the morning of the 15th of October. Then after the Getaway, I need to beg a ride either to Michigan, or to a bus station that will get me to Michigan. Traveling from Alaska always develops into a major adventure. Those of you who can help me with transportation can be assured of being mentioned in any road songs that are written as a result. I might even bring down some more Alaskan Smoked Salmon for car munchies. Thanks in advance, let me know by PM if you can help me out. I just can't wait to go to another Getaway. Best wishes, Mike |
