Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: GUEST,Lyndi-loo Date: 23 Jan 02 - 06:42 AM You can always tell what clan a Scotsman belongs to by looking under his kilt. If it's a half-pounder he's a MacDonald O-) Lyndi-loo (who's married to a Scotsman and knows exactly what's there!) |

Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: John Wood Date: 23 Jan 02 - 06:43 AM I was about to say``Nothing´´,but I'm sure my Scottish friends would be VERY insulted !!!! John. |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Dave Bryant Date: 23 Jan 02 - 06:47 AM Depends on the sex of the person wearing it. There is a well-known joke about a young lady who asks a similiar question of a gnarled old scotsman. He tells her to put her hand up his kilt and find out. "Ooh - it's gruesome" she says. "Aye", he said "And it's grew some more since since you felt it !". |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: MC Fat Date: 23 Jan 02 - 06:48 AM The usual answer to is there anything worn under the kilt ? , is 'no it's all in perfect working order ' from a quarter pounder McDonald (of Sleat) |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: GUEST Date: 23 Jan 02 - 06:49 AM MICCA.......LOL |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Dave Bryant Date: 23 Jan 02 - 06:52 AM Addendum to previous item. If you were to ask a scotsman the question, "What is worn under your kilt ?", you'd probably get the answer "Nothing - it's all in perfect working order". |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: GUEST,micca at work Date: 23 Jan 02 - 06:58 AM Skarpi, it depends on whether the wearer is a "traditionalist" or a "modernist" , usually "traditionalists" only wear underpants when taking part in Highland sports or in public dancing displays, this is because during these activities the sporran ( the flat poch worn hanging in front of the kilt)is usually pivoted onto the hip ( so it doesnt swing out and beat your partner black and blue on the turns) does not keep the front of the kilt in place as it usually does and preserve ( somewhat) the modesty of the wearer, but otherwise they probably go "Commando"(that is wear nothing at all underneath) Micca . Kilt wearer( see Getaway pics) |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: GUEST,Mac the Knife Date: 23 Jan 02 - 07:19 AM Many kilt wearers whose tackle is in full working order always wear jockey shorts or some such in order to avoid the horror of "horizontal sporran syndrome" caused by close contact with a member of the opposite sex. Perhaps in a dancing situation. Many who "commando" might be less than gifted in the tackle department. Hoots Mon etc. |

Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Mr Red Date: 23 Jan 02 - 08:20 AM Mirror on a stick, but warm the mirror - not because it is kinder but to prevent condensation sensation!!! BTW I heard of a guy recently (only in America) who was annoying ladies in the supermarket by standing too close. He was charged only with harrassment until they discovered the camera in his shoe pointing........... well you can guess. |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: artbrooks Date: 23 Jan 02 - 08:25 AM A comment from America...the land of the non-traditionalists. I went to the Highland Games (sic) in Flagstaff, Arizona last year, and all of the people participating in the competition seemed to be wearing black lycra sport shorts under their kilts. |

Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Dave Bryant Date: 23 Jan 02 - 08:56 AM I have heard that in highland regiments, that if a soldier's wedding tackle is too long he is advised to "Wind it round yer leg, tuck it into the top o' yer sock and preten' it's a varicose vein". |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 23 Jan 02 - 09:05 AM Highland Games (sic), Art? makes sense to me, Flagstaff is at a higher altitude than any town in Scotland. Murray |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: kendall Date: 23 Jan 02 - 09:59 AM That quote about everything being in good working order is attributed to Sir Harry Lauder who toured the USA in the '20's. |

Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Jock Morris Date: 23 Jan 02 - 11:28 AM The kilt is traditionally only worn by men; women just wear tartan skirts, which tend to have less material than the kilt. Having worn the kilt with and without undergarments I would warn anybody wishing to go 'commando' to be aware of midges! Scott |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 23 Jan 02 - 12:16 PM What Jock says is true. Women don't wwear kilts unless they are play in a Pipe band or participate in Highland dancing competition. A kilt is not a tartan skirt and vice versa. Bob, you never are going to be able to grasp the difference between light-hearted humor and salacious grossness, are you? Murray |
Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: GUEST,PeteBoom (at work) Date: 23 Jan 02 - 12:19 PM What's under a kilt? Hose and ghillie brogues, of course. (socks and shoes...) ;-) Pete |

Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: GUEST,TomLoriMail@Yahoo.Com Date: 23 Jan 02 - 02:26 PM We perform celtic music from the Renaissance through the Early American time periods. As such we perform in "period costume" which often includes the "Great Kilt" or more correctly, "The Belted Plaid". We perform at Museums, Renaissance Faires, and various Celtic Festivals and Highland Games throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region as far North as NY and as far south as NC. At the Maryland Renaissance Festival, one of our standard places to perform is on top of the Middleton Tavern ( see picture: http://members.prestige.net/TomLori/Gallery/Gallry2000/MDRF2000/DSC00031.jpg ) All this said to introduce the following discourse: We get tired of the tired old standard kilt jokes, but once in a while a patron will ask me: "Isn't it a little daring to stand so close to the edge?" Answer: "Not unless you have something to hide!" Tom TomLori HTTP://www.TomLori.Com |

Skarpi: I don't know what the customs are in Iceland regarding male female relationships, but I do think Sharon has a point. Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Blackcatter Date: 24 Jan 02 - 12:23 AM Skarpi - Sounds like you need to get a kilt of your own! If MY lady friend was that interested in kilts I'd definately get one and model it for her. Second point. Also remember that the traditional kilt/tartan is more of a wrap around thing made with quite a lot of fabric - it wasn't exactly a skirt that could "fly-up" in a gust of wind. Third point. ummm - hell, I don't have one - but it's 85 degrees (F) here in sunny Florida. pax yall |

Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Dave Bryant Date: 24 Jan 02 - 05:35 AM Skarpi - If you are going to wear a kilt then it's probably best to avoid "Hard Feelings" anyway - might be a bit too obvious. I've never worn a kilt - but if your girlfiend really wants to know what's under one - perhaps I ought to get one and volunteer myself. I think maybe, though, that she should satisfy her curiosity with you. |

Subject: RE: What is under the KILT.???? From: Zipster Date: 24 Jan 02 - 06:34 AM Poor Skarpi it sounds like its all getting too much. Lady folks the world over be aware you are VERY welcome to come over to Scotland and discover what's under our kilts. We will deem it an honour to educate our cousins from overseas. Skarpi when in Edinburgh get yourself alongto the folk club at the Cafe Royal, and ask if they still hold Ceilidhs at the Assembly rooms in George St. I've not been for a while myself, but there's usually enough birling to make the answer to your lady friend's question self-evident. |
